  • A transcriptional roadmap to wood formation
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 98:25, s. 14732-14737
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The large vascular meristem of poplar trees with its highly organized secondary xylem enables the boundaries between different developmental zones to be easily distinguished. This property of wood-forming tissues allowed us to determine a unique tissue-specific transcript profile for a well defined developmental gradient. RNA was prepared from different developmental stages of xylogenesis for DNA microarray analysis by using a hybrid aspen unigene set consisting of 2,995 expressed sequence tags. The analysis revealed that the genes encoding lignin and cellulose biosynthetic enzymes, as well as a number of transcription factors and other potential regulators of xylogenesis, are under strict developmental stage-specific transcriptional regulation.

  • Soft tissue reactions around percutaneous implants: a clinical study of soft tissue conditions around skin-penetrating titanium implants for bone-anchored hearing aids
  • 1988
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Otology. - 0192-9763. ; 9:1, s. 56-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Some patients with hearing impairment cannot use conventional hearing aids. One solution for these patients is the use of bone conduction hearing aids; however, this kind of equipment is associated with several problems related to the necessity for a good contact between the transducer and the temporal bone. Direct bone contact would be an ideal solution provided that safe and reaction-free skin penetration and a safe and permanent bone anchorage could be achieved. Branemark et al have developed a procedure to furnish edentulous patients with fixed bridges using titanium implants. This report is focused on the clinical status of the soft tissue adjacent to the 67 skin-penetrating devices in 60 patients. The patients have been followed between 3 and 96 months on 313 occasions, which represents a total observation time of 1515 months of clinical performance. Only one implant was extracted due to adverse skin reaction, giving a failure rate of 0.07% per month. This is comparable with the failure rate of cardiac pacemakers 0.02-0.04% per month).

  • The AMANDA experiment
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Neutrino '96. Proceedings, 17th International Conference on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics, Helsinki, Finland, June 13-19, 1996. ; , s. 518-523
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the AMANDA South Pole site, four new holes were drilled to depths 2050 m to 2180 m and instrumented with 86 photomultipliers (PMTs) at depths 1520-2000 m. Of these PMTs 79 are working, with 4-ns timing resolution and noise rates 300 to 600 Hz. Various diagnostic devices were deployed and are working. An observed factor 60 increase in scattering length and a sharpening of the distribution of arrival times of laser pulses relative to measurements at 800-1000 m showed that bubbles are absent below 1500 m. Absorption lengths are 100 to 150 m at wavelengths in the blue and UV to 337 nm. Muon coincidences are seen between the SPASE air shower array and the AMANDA PMTs at 800-1000 m and 1500-1900 m. The muon track rate is 30 Hz for 8-fold triggers and 10 Hz for 10-fold triggers. The present array is the nucleus for a future expanded array.

  • Exon 2 duplication of the MID1 gene in a patient with a mild phenotype of Opitz G/BBB syndrome
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Medical Genetics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1769-7212. ; 56:4, s. 188-191
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The X-linked form of Opitz G/BBB syndrome is a congenital midline malformation syndrome caused by MID1 loss-of-function mutations, including point mutations and small-sized duplications, insertions, and deletions. Three patients with an Opitz G/BBB syndrome phenotype and relatively large duplications of part of the MID1 gene have been described up to date. Here we report a 2-months-old boy with a very mild phenotype including craniofacial dysmorphism, swallowing difficulties, and a normal psychomotor development. Molecular karyotyping revealed a 57-kb duplication involving exon 2 of the MID1 gene. The in-frame tandem duplication was confirmed by MID1 transcript analysis. This alteration results likely in a mutant MID1 protein which contains 32 duplicated amino acids in the first part of the coiled-coil domain. The mild phenotype of the patient with the microduplication suggests that MID1 mutations can be found in patients with hypertelorism with or without other clinical signs and MID1 alterations might be missed in individuals not fulfilling the minimal criteria for diagnosis of X-linked Opitz G/BBB syndrome. This report further emphasizes the genotype-first approach in medical genetics in general and patients with unspecific clinical features in particular. (C) 2013 Elsevier Masson SAS. • Priorities and Interactions of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Focus on Wetlands
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Water. - : MDPI. - 2073-4441. ; 11:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wetlands are often vital physical and social components of a country’s natural capital, as well as providers of ecosystem services to local and national communities. We performed a network analysis to prioritize Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets for sustainable development in iconic wetlands and wetlandscapes around the world. The analysis was based on the information and perceptions on 45 wetlandscapes worldwide by 49 wetland researchers of the Global Wetland Ecohydrological Network (GWEN). We identified three 2030 Agenda targets of high priority across the wetlandscapes needed to achieve sustainable development: Target 6.3—“Improve water quality”; 2.4—“Sustainable food production”; and 12.2—“Sustainable management of resources”. Moreover, we found specific feedback mechanisms and synergies between SDG targets in the context of wetlands. The most consistent reinforcing interactions were the influence of Target 12.2 on 8.4—“Efficient resource consumption”; and that of Target 6.3 on 12.2. The wetlandscapes could be differentiated in four bundles of distinctive priority SDG-targets: “Basic human needs”, “Sustainable tourism”, “Environmental impact in urban wetlands”, and “Improving and conserving environment”. In general, we find that the SDG groups, targets, and interactions stress that maintaining good water quality and a “wise use” of wetlandscapes are vital to attaining sustainable development within these sensitive ecosystems.
