  • Assessment of anti-slip devices from healthy individuals in different ages on slippery surfaces
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Applied Ergonomics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1872-9126 .- 0003-6870. ; 37:2, s. 177-186
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interest for effective preventive strategies for slips and falls in growing.Much remains to be done however to prevent slips and falls in the traffic environment.Using an appropriate anti-slip device may reduce the risk of slips and falls on different surfaces outdoors during winter. The aim of this study was to evaluate the best anti-slip devices of different designs in the Swedish market on a larger group of healthy individuals in different ages on five slippery surfaces as a way to develop a standard method to test anti-slip devices. Evaliuations were done according to subject's perceived walking safety and balance, videorecordings of walking postures and movements, time to take on and off each anti-slip device, advantages and disadvantages and list of priorities for own use. A heel device was preceived to be the most safe on all five surfaces. It was perceived as the most rapid to take on and off and had the highest priority according to walking safety, walking balance and choice fo

  • Body awareness therapy for patients with fibromyalgia and chronic pain
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Disability and Rehabilitation. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0963-8288 .- 1464-5165. ; 27:12, s. 725-728
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There are several therapies designed to increase body awareness. They are commonly known as body awareness therapies ( BAT) and include Basic BAT, Mensendieck and Feldenkrais therapy. A focus on emotions is important in all these therapies. In this article the aim and development of Basic BAT is described together with evaluations of treatments including Basic BAT. Multidisciplinary studies have shown that Basic BAT can increase health-related quality of life and cost-effectiveness. However Basic BAT needs to be further studied in relation to patients with. fibromyalgia ( FM) and chronic pain. Studies so far indicate that Basic BAT has positive effects.

  • Changes in life-views and ethical viewpoints during physiotherapy education
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Physiotherapy Theory and Practice. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0959-3985 .- 1532-5040. ; 19:2, s. 63-76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A life-view can be described an an overall view of man and the world. An individual's life-view can change as a result of attending university. The life-view determines the response to reality and influences decision making and the treatment of other people. The aim of this study is to compare life-views and ethical viewpoints in the same group of physiotherapy students in their first and last semester of study and to describe physiotherapy students' perceptions of the importance of life-views in physiotherapy education. A reliable and valid questionnaire about life-views together with questions covering ethical aspects was used. All physiotherapy students beginning their education at Lund University between 1996 and 1998 answered a questionnaire in their first and last semester of study. The students expressed high agreement with a religious and evolutionary life-view and a low agreement with a scientific life-view in both their first and last semester of study. Amore varied opinion and reduced agreement were shown over time in religious, scientific, and evolutionary life-views. The students were patient-centred in their attitudes at both points in time, and the opinion that quality of life was more important than life increased between their first and last semester of study. The students also were positive toward euthanasia at both points. A life-view was considered important for the practical work as a physiotherapist. Fifty percent of the students were of the opinion that they had changed their life-view during their education to a more accepting and tolerant one and that their ethical awareness had been deepened

  • Clinical reasoning and clinical use of basic body awareness therapy in physiotherapy : a qualitative study?
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Physiotherapy. - : Taylor & Francis. - 2167-9169 .- 2167-9177. ; 22:1, s. 29-35
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Clinical reasoning is the ability to integrate and apply different types of knowledge, weigh evidence critically and reflect upon the process to arrive at a diagnosis. Body awareness is an approach directed toward an awareness of how the body is used in terms of body function, behaviour, and interaction with self and others. Methods: In the present study, 36 physiotherapists (PTs) from 13 countries working with body awareness methods, mainly Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT) in mental health were interviewed in six focus groups. Content analysis was used to analyse how the informants’ reasoned around the concept of body awareness therapy, and how they use it in their clinical work with patients.Result: Body awareness was conceived as being in contact with sensations and emotions, to be able to control symptoms, such as pain, to find a balance and to develop one’s identity by relating to oneself and others. BBAT was used as a whole body treatment, to promote balance and stability, to teach about body, movements, and coping strategies, to interact in a therapeutic approach and to be integrated with other methods and professionals. Conclusion: The present results can be used to improve the PTs clinical reasoning.

  • Development and reliability of the Motivation for Change Questionnaire.
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Disability and Rehabilitation. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0963-8288 .- 1464-5165. ; 27:17, s. 967-976
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to describe the development of the Motivation for Change Questionnaire (MCQ) and to test its intra-patient reliability on musculoskeletal pain patients in interdisciplinary rehabilitation as a basis for use in rehabilitation planning. Method. The MCQ questionnaire was developed from a literature search in the Medline, Cinahl and Psychlit databases concerning motivating factors for change in the life and work situation. Questions covering these factors were developed (item generation). Factor analysis of the questions implied a reduction of the number of questions (item reduction). Inter-item correlation was assessed on the baseline administration of the questionnaire by calculating Cronbach's agr. When testing the structure of the scales, it was shown that the MCQ questionnaire could be described in two scales, one scale relating to motivation for change in the life situation and the other focusing on motivation for change in the work situation and in total 49 questions. Results. The test - retest reliability was calculated using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. One question was excluded due to the threshold limit of > 0.5. Seven scales relating to the life situation were accepted by the analysis: social support, mastery in life, challenges in life, control in life, values, self-efficacy and self-confidence. Six scales relating to the work situation were also accepted: co-worker support, supervisory support, challenges in work, job control, interaction and job-satisfaction. Conclusions. The MCQ questionnaire with 48 questions is reliable for use on musculoskeletal pain patients in interdisciplinary rehabilitation. It can be used to identify each individual's motivating factors for change in life and work situation as a basis for motivational work within rehabilitation and/or to measure within-subject changes in motivation over time. The validity and the responsiveness of the MCQ, need to be studied.
