  • Influence of casting temperature on the castability and glass-forming ability of Zr-based bulk metallic glasses
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-3093. ; 603
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Both castability and glass-forming ability (GFA) are crucial for die-casting of Zr-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) components. In this work, a simple method is used to quantify the castability required for casting two SIM card slots with different designs, and to quantify the castability at different casting temperatures. It is found that the Zr55Cu30Ni5Al10 (Zr55) BMG has a wider optimal casting temperature region (in which glassy rods with a diameter of at least 5 mm can be formed) than that of Zr52.5Cu25Ni9.5Al7Ti6 (Zr52.5), which is consistent of the better GFA of the Zr55. In the optimal casting temperature region, however, the castability of Zr52.5 is significantly better than that of Zr55, because Zr52.5 has a lower melting point, a poorer wettability to the copper mold, and a higher optimal casting temperature. These results are helpful to guide the production of Zr-based BMG components.

  • Observability analysis of a vision-aided inertial navigation system using planar features on the ground
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2013 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS). - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781467363587 ; , s. 4187-4194
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we present an observability analysis of a vision-aided inertial navigation system (VINS) in which the camera is downward looking and observes a single point feature on the ground. In our analysis, the full INS parameter vector (including position, velocity, rotation, and inertial sensor biases) as well as the 3D position of the observed point feature are considered as state variables. In particular, we prove that the system has only three unobservable directions corresponding to global translations along the x and y axes, and rotations around the gravity vector. Hence, compared to general VINS, an advantage of using only ground features is that the vertical translation becomes observable. The findings of the theoretical analysis are validated through real-world experiments.

  • An App knock-in rat model for Alzheimer's disease exhibiting Aβ and tau pathologies, neuronal death and cognitive impairments
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Cell research. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1748-7838 .- 1001-0602. ; 32:2, s. 157-175
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major obstacle in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research is the lack of predictive and translatable animal models that reflect disease progression and drug efficacy. Transgenic mice overexpressing amyloid precursor protein (App) gene manifest non-physiological and ectopic expression of APP and its fragments in the brain, which is not observed in AD patients. The App knock-in mice circumvented some of these problems, but they do not exhibit tau pathology and neuronal death. We have generated a rat model, with three familiar App mutations and humanized Aβ sequence knocked into the rat App gene. Without altering the levels of full-length APP and other APP fragments, this model exhibits pathologies and disease progression resembling those in human patients: deposit of Aβ plaques in relevant brain regions, microglia activation and gliosis, progressive synaptic degeneration and AD-relevant cognitive deficits. Interestingly, we have observed tau pathology, neuronal apoptosis and necroptosis and brain atrophy, phenotypes rarely seen in other APP models. This App knock-in rat model may serve as a useful tool for AD research, identifying new drug targets and biomarkers, and testing therapeutics.

  • Collective rotation of an oblate nucleus at very high spin
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 99:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A sequence of nine almost equidistant quadrupole transitions is observed in Nd137. The sequence represents an extremely regular rotational band that extends to a spin of about 75/2 and an excitation energy of ≈4.5MeV above yrast. Cranked mean-field calculations of the Nilsson-Strutinsky type suggest an oblate shape for the band. They reproduce the observed I(I+1) dependence of the rotational energy whereas predicting a pronounced decrease in the deformation, which is the hallmark of antimagnetic rotation.

  • Highly deformed bands in Nd nuclei : New results and consistent interpretation within the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky formalism
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 100:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three new highly-deformed (HD) bands are identified in Nd136 and the highly deformed band of Nd137 is extended at higher spin by four transitions, revealing a band crossing associated with the occupation of the second νi13/2 intruder orbital. Extended cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations are performed for all HD bands observed in Nd134, Nd136, and Nd137, achieving for the first time a consistent interpretation of all HD bands in the Nd nuclei. The new interpretation has significant consequences, like the change of parity of the yrast HD bands of Nd134 and Nd136, and the involvement of two negative-parity neutron intruder orbitals in the configurations of most HD bands. The present experimental results and their theoretical interpretation represent an important step forward in the understanding of the second-minimum excitations in the Nd nuclei.

  • Multiple chiral bands in 137 Nd
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 56:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two new bands have been identified in 137Nd from a high-statistics JUROGAM II gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment. Constrained density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations are used to assign configurations and investigate the band properties, which are well described and understood. It is demonstrated that these two new bands can be interpreted as chiral partners of previously known three-quasiparticle positive- and negative-parity bands. The newly observed chiral doublet bands in 137Nd represent an important support to the existence of multiple chiral bands in nuclei. The present results constitute the missing stone in the series of Nd nuclei showing multiple chiral bands, which becomes the most extended sequence of odd–even and even-even nuclei presenting multiple chiral bands in the Segré chart.

  • Signatures of enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in Nd 136
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 102:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Experimental signatures of moderately enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in Nd136 are indicated for the first time. The extracted dipole moments of two negative-parity bands are only two times smaller than those of the lanthanide nuclei with N≈90 which present well-established octupole correlations. Calculations using the cranked quasiparticle random phase approximation and a model of quadrupole-octupole rotations with octupole vibrations reveal the structure of the bands and the enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in Nd136.

  • Oxidized cellulose nanofibrils-based surimi gel enhancing additives : Interactions, performance and mechanisms
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Food Hydrocolloids. - : Elsevier BV. - 0268-005X .- 1873-7137. ; 133
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Surimi-based products with preferred textural properties and high nutritional value are fashionable throughout the market. Enhancing surimi gel characteristics is of key importance for enabling the following processing and warranting the end-product quality, but challenging due to the lack of energy- and performance-efficient processes and the elusive mechanisms underpinned such enhancements. Focusing on enhancing surimi gel properties by introducing sustainable additives, we successfully explore functionalized cellulose nanofibrils as a textural enhancer in surimi gels and establish a new model to expound the interaction mechanisms. Firstly, TEMPO-mediated oxidation prior to homogenization harvests functionalized cellulose nanofibrils with unique fibrillary shape, uniform nano-size, high surface hydrophilicity and activated -COO- groups, highly suited for the additive use in surimi gels (Monto et al., 2021). Secondly, the innovative application of oxidized cellulose nanofibrils at a remarkably low concentrations (0.1 g/100 g surimi) greatly improve the whiteness, microstructure, water holding capacity, gel strength and thermal stability of the surimi gels, through a synergistic effect of matrix-reinforcing, water binding and entrapping, covalent interactions (disulfide bonds, amide bonds), non-covalent interactions (hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds) and favorable protein conformational changes within the network. Next, a new mechanism model toward the high-performance surimi gels is concluded to better elucidate the interactions between oxidized cellulose nanofibrils and myosin molecules. We expect that this work can provide guidelines on designing novel and high-quality cellulose-additive foods and understanding the roles of food additives in meat gel systems, for advancing the applications of new additives and gelation mechanisms in the food industry.
