  • Paleolimnological evidence of the effects on lakes of energy and mass transfer from climate and humans
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Limnology and Oceanography. - 0024-3590 .- 1939-5590. ; 54:6, s. 2330-2348
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The premise of this article is that climate effects on lakes can be quantified most effectively by the integration of process-oriented limnological studies with paleolimnological research, particularly when both disciplines operate within a common conceptual framework. To this end, the energy (E)-mass (m) flux framework (Em flux) is developed and applied to selected retrospective studies to demonstrate that climate variability regulates lake structure and function over diverse temporal and spatial scales through four main pathways: rapid direct transfer of E to the lake surface by irradiance, heat, and wind; slow indirect effects of E via changes in terrestrial development and subsequent m subsidies to lakes; direct influx of m as precipitation, particles, and solutes from the atmosphere; and indirect influx of water, suspended particles, and dissolved substances from the catchment. Sedimentary analyses are used to illustrate the unique effects of each pathway on lakes but suggest that interactions among mechanisms are complex and depend on the landscape position of lakes, catchment characteristics, the range of temporal variation of individual pathways, ontogenetic changes in lake basins, and the selective effects of humans on m transfers. In particular, preliminary synthesis suggests that m influx can overwhelm the direct effects of E transfer to lakes, especially when anthropogenic activities alter m subsidies from catchments.

  • Study of β-delayed charged particle emission of 11Li: Evidence of new decay channels
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 111:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The break-up of the 18.2 MeV state in 11Be was studied in a 11Li β-decay experiment. We report here on the study of the dominating breakup channels involving na6He or 3n2α in the final state, with special emphasis dedicated in this contribution to the three-particle channel. The two emitted charged particles were detected in coincidence using a highly segmented experimental set-up. The observed experimental energy-vs-energy scatter plot indicates a sequential breakup where nuclei of mass 4, alpha particles, and mass 7, 7He, are involved. A Monte-Carlo simulation of the sequential channel, 11Be* → α + 7He → nα6He was performed and compared to the experimental data and to a simulation of the direct break-up of the 18.2 MeV state nα6He by phase space energy distribution. The energy-versus-energy plot are explained by the sequential simulation but not by the phase space simulation.

  • Embryo Morphokinetics and Blastocyst Development After GnRH Agonist versus hCG Triggering in Normo-ovulatory Women: a Secondary Analysis of a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Reproductive Sciences. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1933-7191 .- 1933-7205. ; 28, s. 2972-2981
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) for final oocyte maturation, along with vitrification of all usable embryos followed by transfer in a subsequent frozen-thawed cycle, is the most effective strategy to avoid ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). However, less is known about the ovulation induction triggers effect on early embryo development and blastocyst formation. This study is a secondary analysis of a multicenter, randomized controlled trial, with the aim to compare embryo development in normo-ovulatory women, randomized to GnRHa or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) trigger. In all, 4056 retrieved oocytes were observed, 1998 from the GnRHa group (216 women) and 2058 from the hCG group (218 women). A number of retrieved oocytes, mature and fertilized oocytes, and high-quality embryos and blastocysts were similar between the groups. A sub-analysis in 250 women enrolled at the main trial site including 2073 oocytes was conducted to compare embryo morphokinetics and cleavage patterns with EmbryoScope time-lapse system. In total, 1013 oocytes were retrieved from the GnRHa group (124 women) and 1060 oocytes were retrieved from the hCG group (126 women). Morphokinetic parameters and cleavage patterns were comparable between the groups. However, embryos derived from the GnRHa group were less likely to perform rolling during their development than the embryos from the hCG trigger group (OR = 0.41 (95%CI 0.25; 0.67), p-value 0.0003). The comparable results on embryo development and utilization rates between the GnRHa and hCG triggers is of clinical relevance to professionals and infertile patients, when GnRHa trigger and freeze-all is performed to avoid OHSS development. • Production yields of noble-gas isotopes from ISOLDE UCx/graphite targets
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms. - 0168-583X. ; 204, s. 220-224
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Yields of He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe isotopic chains were measured from UCx/graphite and ThCx/graphite targets at the PSB-ISOLDE facility at CERN using isobaric selectivity achieved by the combination of a plasma-discharge ion source with a water-cooled transfer line. The delay times measured for a UCx/graphite target allow for an extrapolation to the expected yields of very neutron-rich noble gas isotopes, in particular for the "NuPECC reference elements" Ar and Kr, at the next-generation radioactive ion-beam facility EURISOL. • Beta-delayed multiparticle emission studies at ISOL-type facilities
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 746, s. 243-243
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report here on the recent beta-decay studies made at ISOL-type Facilities to determine the multiparticle breakup mechanism of excited states in light nuclei by studying them in full kinematics. In particular the results obtained for the A = 9 isobars and the breakup of the 12.7 MeV state in C-12 of unnatural parity are discussed. The breakup of the latter has been debated since more than a decade. Mirror beta transitions in the A = 9 chain are compared and a large asymmetry factor is deduced for the transitions to high excitation energy in Be-9 (11.8 MeV) and B-9 (12.2 MeV) fed in the beta-decay of Li-9 and C-9 respectively. It is shown that the asymmetry is not due to experimental problems or differences in the mechanisms of breakup or in the spin of the states. As no asymmetry is found in the gs to gs transition it must be due to the particular structure of these excited states. The controversy on the breakup mechanism of the 12.7 MeV state is resolved.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews. - : Elsevier BV. - 0149-7634. ; 149
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We aimed to identify promising novel medications for child and adolescent mental health problems. We systematically searched https://clinicaltrials.gov/ and https://www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu/ (from 01/01/ 2010-08/23/2022) for phase 2 or 3 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of medications without regulatory approval in the US, Europe or Asia, including also RCTs of dietary interventions/probiotics. Additionally, we searched phase 4 RCTs of agents targeting unlicensed indications for children/adolescents with mental health disorders. We retrieved 234 ongoing or completed RCTs, including 26 (11%) with positive findings on & GE; 1 primary outcome, 43 (18%) with negative/unavailable results on every primary outcome, and 165 (70%) without publicly available statistical results. • Breakup channels for C-12 triple-alpha continuum states
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 80:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The triple-alpha-particle breakup of states in the triple-alpha continuum of C-12 has been investigated by way of coincident detection of all three alpha particles of the breakup. The states have been fed in the beta decay of N-12 and B-12, and the alpha particles measured using a setup that covers all of the triple-alpha phase space. Contributions from the breakup through the Be-8(0(+)) ground state as well as other channels-interpreted as breakup through excited energies in Be-8-have been identified. Spins and parities of C-12 triple-alpha continuum states are deduced from the measured phase-space distributions for breakup through Be-8 above the ground state by comparison to a fully symmetrized sequential R-matrix description of the breakup. At around 10 MeV in C-12, the breakup is found to be dominated by 0(+) strength breaking up through the ghost of the Be-8(0(+)) ground state with L = 0 angular momentum between the first emitted alpha particle and the intermediate Be-8 nucleus. For C-12 energies above the 12.7 MeV 1(+) state, however, L = 2 breakup of a C-12 2(+) state through the Be-8(2(+)) excited state dominates. Furthermore, the possibility of a 2(+) excited state in the 9-12 MeV region of C-12 is investigated.

  • Properties of the C-12 10 MeV state determined through beta-decay
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 760:1-2, s. 3-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The beta-delayed triple-alpha particle decay of B-12 has been measured with a setup that favours coincidence detection. A broad state in C-12, previously reported around 10 MeV, has been seen and its properties determined through R-matrix analysis of the excitation spectrum. The spin and parity are 0(+). Interference between this state and the Hoyle state at 7.654 MeV has a marked influence on the spectrum. The coupling between the two states makes it difficult to determine the resonance energy.
