  • How the coronavirus crisis affects citizen trust in institutions and in unknown others: Evidence from ‘the Swedish experiment’
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Political Research. - : Wiley. - 0304-4130 .- 1475-6765. ; 60:3, s. 748-760
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study how Swedish citizens updated their institutional and interpersonal trust as the corona crisis evolved from an initial phase to an acute phase in the spring of 2020. The study is based on a large web-survey panel with adult Swedes (n = 11,406) in which the same individuals were asked the same set of questions at two different time points during the coronavirus pandemic (t(0)andt(1)). The sample was self-selected but diverse (a smaller subsample, n = 1,464, was pre-stratified to be representative of the Swedish population on key demographics). We find support for the view that the corona crisis led to higher levels of institutional and interpersonal trust. Moreover, reactions were largely homogeneous across those groups that could potentially relate distantly to government authorities.

  • The Dynamics of Professional Identity Why journalists view journalists working with PR as a threat to journalism
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journalism Practice. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1751-2786 .- 1751-2794. ; 8:5, s. 585-595
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to analyse how journalists' professional identity is related to their attitude towards PR. The focus is how—and to what extent—journalistic ideology, organizational belonging and the individual's social position influence journalists' perception that other journalists working with PR lower the trustworthiness of journalism. The analyses rest on data from the Swedish Journalist Survey 2011, which is a national representative survey of Swedish journalists. The results show that journalists in general embrace a hostile attitude towards journalists who start working as PR practitioners. However, those who have worked as a journalist for fewer years or have journalistic ideals promoting the amusement function of journalism, or have worked as a freelance, or been employed in an organization producing newsletters, as well as female journalists, weaken this posture. The article concludes with a discussion on how the results could be understood in relation to recent changes in journalism's power and prerequisites, and how a professional identity might function as a form of resistance.

  • To Publish or Not to Publish? Assessing Journalism Ethics in News about a Terrorist Attack
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journalism Studies. - 1461-670X. ; 22:13, s. 1814-1831
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article compares how the Swedish public and journalists assessed the ethical aspects of harmful exposure and dissemination of unverified information in news reporting of the 2017 terrorist attack in Stockholm. The analysis derives from comparable web surveys with 1092 journalists and 3881 citizens who answered identical questions about the attack. Focus is placed on ethics as an expression of journalistic practice and the influence of situational factors on ethical assessments. The findings demonstrate an overall similarity between the public’s and journalists’ assessments of ethical judgments made in the news reporting, but also notable differences. Furthermore, significant differences were found between journalists who had personal experience of reporting on the terrorist attack and those who did not. One conclusion is that the public assesses ethical decisions based on information aspects more than do journalists, while the opposite is true for considerations of personal integrity. The main contribution of this study is that it adds to previous research on the influence of organisational and individual factors by demonstrating the additional influence of situational factors on journalists’ ethical assessments.

  • Magnetic properties of two-dimensional arrays of epitaxial Fe (001) submicron particles
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 85:5, s. 2793-2799
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The magnetic properties of two-dimensional arrays of Fe particles with well-defined geometry, prepared by electron lithography from epitaxial Fe (001) films of thickness of 50 nm, have been studied. Circular particles with diameters of 0.6 and 0.4 m and rectangular particles 0.9 m0.3 m and 0.7 m0.2 m, were positioned in square and rectangular lattices, respectively, with lattice constants about twice the particle dimensions. Samples were prepared with the lattices oriented along the 100 and 110 directions. Hysteresis curves were obtained in the field range 2 T at temperatures between 30 and 300 K. The hysteresis curves are characteristic for single particles with a multidomain zero-field state. The magnetization and demagnetization processes are mainly governed by the geometrical shape of the particles and their orientation with respect to the crystal directions and the applied field. This implies that the high quality in the epitaxial Fe films is preserved during the patterning process. Magnetic images, obtained by magnetic force microscopy, support the conclusions drawn from the magnetization measurements. The circular particles showed a fourfold symmetry in their magnetic image, which is compatible with the expected domain structure in a disk with cubic crystalline anisotropy

  • Self-rated health in primiparous women with congenital heart disease before, during and after pregnancy : a register study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1401-7431 .- 1651-2006. ; 58:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Poor maternal self-rated health in healthy women is associated with adverse neonatal outcomes, but knowledge about self-rated health in pregnant women with congenital heart disease (CHD) is sparse. This study, therefore, investigated self-rated health before, during, and after pregnancy in women with CHD and factors associated with poor self-rated health. Methods: The Swedish national registers for CHD and pregnancy were merged and searched for primiparous women with data on self-rated health; 600 primiparous women with CHD and 3062 women in matched controls. Analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: Women with CHD equally often rated their health as poor as the controls before (15.5% vs. 15.8%, p = .88), during (29.8% vs. 26.8% p = .13), and after pregnancy (18.8% vs. 17.6% p = .46). None of the factors related to heart disease were associated with poor self-rated health. Instead, factors associated with poor self-rated health during pregnancy in women with CHD were ≤12 years of education (OR 1.7, 95%CI 1.2–2.4) and self-reported history of psychiatric illness (OR 12.6, 95%CI 1.4–3.4). After pregnancy, solely self-reported history of psychiatric illness (OR 5.2, 95%CI 1.1–3.0) was associated with poor self-rated health. Conclusion: Women with CHD reported poor self-rated health comparable to controls before, during, and after pregnancy, and factors related to heart disease were not associated with poor self-rated health. Knowledge about self-rated health may guide professionals in reproductive counselling for women with CHD. Further research is required on how pregnancy affects self-rated health for the group in a long-term perspective.
