  • Utilization of banana waste for the production of lignolytic and cellulolytic enzymes by solid substrate fermentation using two Pleurotus species (P. ostreatus and P. sajor-caju)
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: PROCESS BIOCHEMISTRY. - 0032-9592. ; 38:10, s. 1457-1462
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pleurotus ostreatus and P. sajor-caju, were investigated for their ability to produce various lignolytic and cellulolytic enzymes such as laccase, lignin peroxidase, xylanase, endo-1,4-beta-D-glucanase (CMCase) and exo-1,4-beta-D-glucanase (FP activity) on Banana agricultural waste (leaf biomass and pseudostems) at solid substrate fermentation. The production patterns of these extracellular enzymes were studied during the growth of the organisms for a period of 40 days. Both organisms exhibited similar levels of enzyme activities and pattern of production. Leaf biomass was found to be a more suitable substrate compared to pseudostems for enzyme production. Very low levels of cellulolytic enzyme activities were detected compared to lignin degrading enzymes by both the organisms. Maximum specific activities of enzymes were obtained between 10 and 20 days of culture growth.

  • Observations of TeV γ-rays from Mrk 421 during December 2005 to April 2006 with the TACTIC telescope
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Astroparticle physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-6505 .- 1873-2852. ; 27:5, s. 447-454
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The TACTIC γ-ray telescope has observed Mrk 421 on 66 clear nights from December 07, 2005 to April 30, 2006, totalling ∼202 h of on-source observations. Here, we report the detection of flaring activity from the source at ⩾1 TeV energy and the time-averaged differential γ-ray spectrum in the energy range 1–11 TeV for the data taken between December 27, 2005 and February 07, 2006 when the source was in a relatively higher state as compared to the rest of the observation period. Analysis of this data spell, comprising ∼97 h reveals the presence of a ∼12.0σ γ-ray signal with daily flux of >1 Crab unit on several days. A pure power law spectrum with exponent −3.11 ± 0.11 as well as a power law spectrum with an exponential cutoff (Γ = −2.51 ± 0.26 and E0 = (4.7 ± 2.1) TeV) are found to provide reasonable fits to the inferred differential spectrum within statistical uncertainties. We believe that the TeV light curve presented here, for nearly 5 months of extensive coverage, as well as the spectral information at γ-ray energies of >5 TeV provide a useful input for other groups working in the field of γ-ray astronomy.

  • Search for TeV γ-rays from H1426+428 during 2004-2007 with the TACTIC telescope
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics G. - : IOP Publishing. - 0954-3899 .- 1361-6471. ; 36:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The BL Lac object H1426+428 (z ≡ 0.129) is an established source of TeV γ-rays and detections of these photons from this object also have important implications for estimating the extragalactic background light in addition to the understanding of the particle acceleration and γ-ray production mechanisms in the AGN jets. We have observed this source for about 244 h in 2004, 2006 and 2007 with the TACTIC γ-ray telescope located at Mt Abu, India. Detailed analysis of these data do not indicate the presence of any statistically significant TeV γ-ray signal from the source direction. Accordingly, we have placed an upper limit of ≤1.18 × 10−12 photons cm−2 s−1 on the integrated γ-ray flux at 3σ significance level.

  • Chest wall perforator flaps for breast reconstruction : international survey on attitudes and training needs
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Surgery. - : Oxford University Press. - 0007-1323 .- 1365-2168. ; 110:8, s. 966-972
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Volume replacement using chest wall perforator flaps (CWPFs) is a promising technique to reduce mastectomy rates without sacrificing function or aesthetics. Owing to limited availability of the technique, only a minority of patients currently have access to CWPF procedures.METHODS: An international web-based survey was disseminated through social media, dedicated webpages, and national and international societies for breast surgery. The survey explored surgeons' attitudes towards CWPFs and their perceived training needs.RESULTS: Of 619 respondents, 88.4 per cent agreed that CWPF surgery was desirable, with one-third offering it and performing a median of 10 (i.q.r. 5-15) procedures annually. They were more likely to be senior (OR 1.35, 95 per cent c.i. 1.18 to 1.55; P < 0.001), with formal oncoplastic training (OR 4.80, 3.09 to 7.48; P < 0.001), and working in larger units (OR 1.18, 1.03 to 1.35; P = 0.018) with a free-flap (OR 1.62, 1.06 to 2.48; P = 0.025) or CWPF (OR 3.02, 1.87 to 4.89; P < 0.001) service available. In cluster and latent class analysis, none showed high cohesion with performance of CWPF surgery.CONCLUSION: There is a discrepancy between perceived importance and availability of CWPF surgery, indicating that optimal training is needed.

  • Development of the Preferred Components for Co-Design in Research Guideline and Checklist : Protocol for a Scoping Review and a Modified Delphi Process
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: JMIR Research Protocols. - : JMIR Publications. - 1929-0748. ; 12:1
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is increasing evidence that co-design can lead to more engaging, acceptable, relevant, feasible, and even effective interventions. However, no guidance is provided on the specific designs and associated methods or methodologies involved in the process. We propose the development of the Preferred Components for Co-design in Research (PRECISE) guideline to enhance the consistency, transparency, and quality of reporting co-design studies used to develop complex health interventions. Objective: The aim is to develop the first iteration of the PRECISE guideline. The purpose of the PRECISE guideline is to improve the consistency, transparency, and quality of reporting on studies that use co-design to develop complex health interventions. Methods: The aim will be achieved by addressing the following objectives: to review and synthesize the literature on the models, theories, and frameworks used in the co-design of complex health interventions to identify their common elements (components, values or principles, associated methods and methodologies, and outcomes); and by using the results of the scoping review, prioritize the co-design components, values or principles, associated methods and methodologies, and outcomes to be included in the PRECISE guideline. Results: The project has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Conclusions: The collective results of this project will lead to a ready-to-implement PRECISE guideline that outlines a minimum set of items to include when reporting the co-design of complex health interventions. The PRECISE guideline will improve the consistency, transparency, and quality of reports of studies. Additionally, it will include guidance on how to enact or enable the values or principles of co-design for meaningful and collaborative solutions (interventions). PRECISE might also be used by peer reviewers and editors to improve the review of manuscripts involving co-design. Ultimately, the PRECISE guideline will facilitate more efficient use of new results about complex health intervention development and bring better returns on research investments.
