    • Progression to metastasis is the proximal cause of most cancer-related mortality. Yet much remains to be understood about what determines the spread of tumor cells. This paper describes a novel pathway in breast cancer that regulates epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), motility, and invasiveness. We identify two transcription factors, nuclear factor 1-C2 (NF1-C2) and Forkhead box F1 (FoxF1), downstream of prolactin/nuclear Janus-activated kinase 2, with opposite effects on these processes. We show that NF1-C2 is lost during mammary tumor progression and is almost invariably absent from lymph node metastases. NF1-C2 levels in primary tumors correlate with better patient survival. Manipulation of NF1-C2 levels by expression of a stabilized version or using small interfering RNA showed that NF1-C2 counteracts EMT, motility, invasiveness, and tumor growth. FoxF1 was found to be a direct repressed target of NF1-C2. We provide the first evidence for a role of FoxF1 in cancer and in the regulation of EMT in cells of epithelial origin. Overexpression of FoxF1 was associated with a mesenchymal phenotype, increased invasiveness in vitro, and enhanced growth of breast carcinoma xenografts in nude mice. The relevance of these findings is strengthened by the correlation between FoxF1 expression and a mesenchymal phenoype in breast cancer cell isolates, consistent with the interpretation that FoxF1 promotes invasion and metastasis.

    • This paper examines the variation in self-consumption and self-sufficiency for eight residential-size solar photovoltaic systems under Nordic climate conditions. The work uses measured photovoltaic array performances with a 30-second temporal resolution and is evaluated for a full year’s operation. One of the systems is operated with battery storage to examine the effect on the system’s self-consumption and self-sufficiency, where the simulated load profile is taken from a single-family residential building in Sweden. The results show a consistent negative correlation between array size and self-consumption. The relation between array size and self-sufficiency is more sensitive and is also affected by the mix of PV technologies represented in the test. Adding battery storage increases the self-consumption in the range of 0-30 percentage points weekly. Furthermore, the variation of self-consumption and self-sufficiency follow the seasonal variation in solar resource and load size and illustrate the battery’s eventual redundancy in the winter when the battery’s objective function is to maximize self-consumption.

    • In this work, seven residential solar photovoltaic systems are evaluated for their technical performance under a full year’s operation in Sweden, at latitude 57.72. The system technologies are selected to reflect available products on the Swedish market and include three building attached (BAPV) and five building-integrated (BIPV) systems. The evaluation is done for the performance ratio (PR) and temperature corrected PR, and the results highlight the seasonal variation and effect from the modules' temperature dependency. The annual losses due to operation at elevated temperature are also quantified for each system, using a temperature-compensated power output, and the results show that the losses are 1-3.2% on the measured yield, depending on the PV technology and extent of roof integration (BIPV or BAPV).

    • In 2013 the Eco Design and Energy Labelling directives for water heaters and for space- and combination heaters came into force as regulations. Additionally, there is the option for “package labels” allowing for various combinations of e.g. solar collectors, boilers and storage tanks to be labelled by the supplier or the dealer. The package is then rated by means of energy calculations based on component data. In late 2013 SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden on behalf of the Swedish Energy Agency conducted a series of tests on five different hot water storage tanks available on the Swedish market for single-family houses. The objectives were to assess the feasibility of the transitional methods for storage testing and to provide an overview of the compliance of storage tanks on the Swedish market compared to the upcoming regulations. The tests were performed according to requirements for hot water stores as well as according to those for water heaters. Results point out some problems with the current methodology and show a need for improvement of tank performance for the tested models as only one out of five tanks got a rating C or better thus complying with the minimum requirements set by the regulation.

    • Det övergripande syftet med uppdraget är att få en detaljerad bild över byggnaders energiprestanda i Sverige. Den första etappen, förstudien, går ut på att beskriva metoden för hur denna analys ska göras. Som etapp 2 genomförs själva nulägesanalysen och slut¬ligen i etapp 3 analyseras resultat och slutsatser presenteras. I denna rapport redogörs för etapp 1, dvs metodbeskrivningen för nulägesanalysen. Nulägesanalysen ska senare kunna användas för att följa upp hur satsningar på Näranoll¬energibyggnader (NNE) påverkar energianvändningen i hela byggnadsbeståndet, inte bara i de faktiska demonstrationsprojekt som beviljas stöd och där uppföljning är betydligt enklare. Resultatet av nulägesanalysen, och den uppföljande analysen (planerad till 2015), ska i förlängningen kunna vara ett stöd när de nationella målnivåerna för näranollenergi-byggnader bestäms. I denna rapport redogörs för etapp 1, dvs metodbeskrivningen för nulägesanalysen. Rapporten beskriver vilka statistikkällor som finns idag samt en metod för hur dessa kan bidra till en mer detaljerad bild av byggnaders energiprestanda under ett valt referensår.
