  • Angular asymmetry and attosecond time delay from the giant plasmon resonance in C60 photoionization
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 1050-2947 .- 1094-1622. ; 91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This combined experimental and theoretical study demonstrates that the surface plasmon resonance in C 60 alters the valence photoemission quantum phase, resulting in strong effects in the photoelectron angular distribution and emission time delay. Electron momentum imaging spectroscopy is used to measure the photoelectron angular distribution asymmetry parameter that agrees well with our calculations from the time-dependent local density approximation (TDLDA). Significant structure in the valence photoemission time delay is simultaneously calculated by TDLDA over the plasmon active energies. Results reveal a unified spatial and temporal asymmetry pattern driven by the plasmon resonance and offer a sensitive probe of electron correlation. A semiclassical approach facilitates further insights into this link that can be generalized and applied to other molecular systems and nanometer-sized metallic materials exhibiting plasmon resonances.

  • Deepening into the nucleation and fission processes of nano-hydrated ammonia clusters - A combined theoretical and experimental study
  • 2020. - 20
  • Ingår i: Clusters / Nanosystems / Surfaces / Solids. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588. ; 1412
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • While largely studied in the macroscopic scale, the dynamics leading to the nucleation and fission of atmospheric aerosols are very poorly understood at the nano or molecular scale. A model system consisting on ionized hydrogen-bonded ammonia and water molecules have been studied experimentally using mass- and 3D momentum spectroscopy and theoretically using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations.

  • Voxel-based morphometry multi-center mega-analysis of brain structure in social anxiety disorder
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: NeuroImage. - : Elsevier BV. - 2213-1582. ; 16, s. 678-688
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is a prevalent and disabling mental disorder, associated with significant psychiatric co-morbidity. Previous research on structural brain alterations associated with SAD has yielded inconsistent results concerning the direction of the changes in gray matter (GM) in various brain regions, as well as on the relationship between brain structure and SAD-symptomatology. These heterogeneous findings are possibly due to limited sample sizes. Multi-site imaging offers new opportunities to investigate SAD-related alterations in brain structure in larger samples. An international multi-center mega-analysis on the largest database of SAD structural T1-weighted 3T MRI scans to date was performed to compare GM volume of SAD-patients (n = 174) and healthy control (HC)-participants (n = 213) using voxel-based morphometry. A hypothesis-driven region of interest (ROI) approach was used, focusing on the basal ganglia, the amygdala-hippocampal complex, the prefrontal cortex, and the parietal cortex. SAD-patients had larger GM volume in the dorsal striatum when compared to HC-participants. This increase correlated positively with the severity of self-reported social anxiety symptoms. No SAD-related differences in GM volume were present in the other ROIs. Thereby, the results of this mega-analysis suggest a role for the dorsal striatum in SAD, but previously reported SAD-related changes in GM in the amygdala, hippocampus, precuneus, prefrontal cortex and parietal regions were not replicated. Our findings emphasize the importance of large sample imaging studies and the need for meta-analyses like those performed by the Enhancing NeuroImaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis (ENIGMA) Consortium.

  • Myosin-Induced Gliding Patterns at Varied [MgATP] Unveil a Dynamic Actin Filament
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Biophysical Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 0006-3495 .- 1542-0086. ; 111:7, s. 1465-1477
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Actin filaments have key roles in cell motility but are generally claimed to be passive interaction partners in actin-myosin -based motion generation. Here, we present evidence against this static view based on an altered myosin-induced actin filament gliding pattern in an in vitro motility assay at varied [MgATP]. The statistics that characterize the degree of meandering of the actin filament paths suggest that for [MgATP] >= 0.25 mM, the flexural rigidity of heavy meromyosin (HMM)-propelled actin filaments is similar (without phalloidin) or slightly lower (with phalloidin) than that of HMM-free filaments observed in solution without surface tethering. When [MgATP] was reduced to <= 0.1 mM, the actin filament paths in the in vitro motility assay became appreciably more winding in both the presence and absence of phalloidin. This effect of lowered [MgATP] was qualitatively different from that seen when HMM was mixed with ATP-insensitive, N-ethylmaleimide-treated HMM (NEM-HMM; 25-30%). In particular, the addition of NEM-HMM increased a non-Gaussian tail in the path curvature distribution as well as the number of events in which different parts of an actin filament followed different paths. These effects were the opposite of those observed with reduced [MgATP]. Theoretical modeling suggests a 30-40% lowered flexural rigidity of the actin filaments at [MgATP] <= 0.1 mM and local bending of the filament front upon each myosin head attachment. Overall, the results fit with appreciable structural changes in the actin filament during actomyosin-based motion generation, and modulation of the actin filament mechanical properties by the dominating chemomechanical actomyosin state.

  • Stapling in thyroid surgery. A prospective study
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Annales Chirurgiae et Gynaecologiae. - 0355-9521. ; 81:1, s. 48-50
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In a prospective study, resection of the thyroid gland by means of a linear stapling device was compared with the conventional resection technique in 12 consecutive patients with thyreotoxicosis. The median time for resection of the stapled lobe was shorter than for the conventionally resected right lobe, although the difference was not statistically significant. The median preoperative bleeding during resection of the stapled left lobe was 42 ml (range 15-126 ml), compared with 78 ml (range 34-247 ml) during the conventional resection of the right lobe (P less than 0.05). Median postoperative bleeding was somewhat less from the stapled side compared with the conventionally resected side, but did not reach statistical significance. The study thus demonstrates the feasibility of carrying out resection of the thyroid gland with a linear stapling device. The technique minimizes peroperative bleeding. It could therefore be used in thyroid surgery.
