  • ELM control with RMP: Plasma response models and the role of edge peeling response
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 1361-6587 .- 0741-3335. ; 58:11, s. Art. no. 114005-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Resonant magnetic perturbations (RMP) have extensively been demonstrated as a plausible technique for mitigating or suppressing large edge localized modes (ELMs). Associated with this is a substantial amount of theory and modelling efforts during recent years. Various models describing the plasma response to the RMP fields have been proposed in the literature, and are briefly reviewed in this work. Despite their simplicity, linear response models can provide alternative criteria, than the vacuum field based criteria, for guiding the choice of the coil configurations to achieve the best control of ELMs. The role of the edge peeling response to the RMP fields is illustrated as a key indicator for the ELM mitigation in low collisionality plasmas, in various tokamak devices.

  • Tree-ring-based annual precipitation reconstruction in Kalaqin, Inner Mongolia for the last 238 years
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Chinese Science Bulletin. ; 56:28-29, s. 2995-3002
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A tree-ring-width chronology of Pinus tabulaeformis from Kalaqin, Inner Mongolia was developed using modern dendrochronological techniques. Based on the results of correlation function analysis, the total precipitation from the previous August to current July was reconstructed for 1771–2008 AD with an explained variance of 49.3%. The reconstruction correlated well with the dryness/ wetness series derived from historical documents, as well as the precipitation reconstruction of the Chifeng-Weichang region. There were eight intervals with greater precipitation than the average (associated with the strong East Asian summer monsoon) and seven intervals lower than the average (weak monsoon). A power spectrum analysis showed that there were 120 a, 80 a, 8 a and 2 a periodicities.

  • Mixed-valence properties of an acetate-bridged dinuclear ruthenium (II,III) complex
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry A. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1089-5639 .- 1520-5215. ; 107:22, s. 4373-4380
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The mixed-valence dinuclear ruthenium complex [Ru-2(bpmp)(mu-OAc)(2)](2+) (where blimp is the phenolate anion of 2,6-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl) aminomethyl]-4-methylphenol, H-bpmp) has been studied by UV-Vis-NIR, IR, and EPR spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The Ru-2(II,III) complex undergoes reversible one-electron reduction (E-1/2 = -0.61 V vs Fc(+/0)) and oxidation (E-1/2 = 0.09 V vs Fc(+/0)), resulting in the Ru-2(II,III) and Ru-2(III,III) complexes, respectively. A comproportionation constant of K-c = 1.10 x 10(12) (DeltaG(c)degrees = -68 kJ mol(-1)) indicates considerable stability of the mixed-valence state. The paramagnetic complex displays a rhombic EPR spectrum (g(1) = 2.492; g(2) = 2.242; g(3) = 1.855) arising from a ground state in a S = 1/2 low spin system in a low symmetry environment. Three intense, distinguishable intervalence bands are observed in the NIR to mid-IR spectrum of [Ru-2(bpmp)(mu-OAc)(2)](2+) at 3765 cm(-1) (epsilon = 1840 M(-1)cm(-1)), 5615 cm(-1) (epsilon = 10590 M-1cm-1), and 7735 cm-1 (E = 3410 M-1cm-1). All intervalence bands are symmetric but more narrow than predicted for the classical limit and independent of solvent polarity. The results of the spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization indicate that [RU2(bpmp)(mu-OAc)(2)](2+) is either electronically delocalized (class III, H-ab = 1880 cm(-1)) or at the borderline between localization and delocalization (class II-III, H-ab greater than or equal to 590 cm(-1)) with rapid electron transfer (k(ET) > 4 x 10(12) s(-1)) decoupled from solvent reorientation but with a residual activation barrier (E-a less than or equal to 440 cm(-1)) from inner reorganization.

  • Synthesis and characterization of a dinuclear manganese(III,III) complex with three phenolate ligands
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry. - 1434-1948 .- 1099-1948. ; 2002:11, s. 2965-2974
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A dinuclear manganese complex ([Mn2L(mu-OAc)(2)]PF6) has been synthesized, where L is the trianion of 2,6-bis{[(2-hydroxy-3,5-di- tert-butylbenzyl) (2-pyridylmethyl) amino] methyl)-4-methylphenol, a ligand with three phenolate groups. The two pseudo-octahedrally coordinated Mn ions are bridged via the two bidentate acetate ligands and the 4-methylphenolate group of the ligand. We have characterized the complex with electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry and EPR spectroscopy. Electrochemically the Mn-2(III,III) complex undergoes two metal-centered quasi-reversible one-electron reduction steps (E-1/2 = 0.04 and -0.32 V vs. SCE). Reduction to the Mn-2(II,III) state results in transformation into a modified complex with slightly different redox properties. One-electron oxidation (E-1/2 = 0.96 V vs. SCE) affords the Mn-2(III,IV) state while further one-electron oxidation (E-1/2 = 1.13 V vs. SCE) presumably involves ligand oxidation. High valent Mn complexes involving Mn-IV or Mn-V centers are of particular interest as intermediates in catalytic water oxidation. The redox potentials of [Mn2L(mu-OAC)(2)](+) show the expected stabilization of higher manganese oxidation states compared with the related complex, [Mn-2(bpmp)(mu-OAc)(2)](+).

  • A low-carbohydrate diet induces hepatic insulin resistance and metabolic associated fatty liver disease in mice
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Molecular Metabolism. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8778. ; 69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease that can range from hepatic steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which can lead to fibrosis and cirrhosis. Recently, ketogenic diet (KD), a low carbohydrate diet, gained popularity as a weight-loss approach, although it has been reported to induce hepatic insulin resistance and steatosis in animal model systems via an undefined mechanism. Herein, we investigated the KD metabolic benefits and its contribution to the pathogenesis of NASH.Methods: Using metabolic, biochemical and omics approaches, we identified the effects of a KD on NASH and investigated the mechanisms by which KD induces hepatic insulin resistance and steatosis. Results: We demonstrate that KD can induce fibrosis and NASH regardless of body weight loss compared to high-fat diet (HFD) fed mice at thermoneutrality. At ambient temperature (23 degrees C), KD-fed mice develop a severe hepatic injury, inflammation, and steatosis. In addition, KD increases liver cholesterol, IL-6, and p-JNK and aggravates diet induced-glucose intolerance and hepatic insulin resistance compared to HFD. Pharmacological inhibition of IL-6 and JNK reverses KD-induced glucose intolerance, and hepatic steatosis and restores insulin sensitivity. Conclusions: Our studies uncover a new mechanism for KD-induced hepatic insulin resistance and NASH potentially via IL-6-JNK signaling and provide a new NASH mouse model.C 2023 The Author(s). • Platelet-related biomarkers and their response to inhibition with aspirin and p2y12-receptor antagonists in patients with acute coronary syndrome
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0929-5305 .- 1573-742X. ; 44:2, s. 145-153
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PLATelet inhibition and patient Outcomes (PLATO) trial showed that treatment with ticagrelor reduced the rate of death due to vascular causes, myocardial infarction and stroke when compared to clopidogrel in patients with ST-elevation or non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (ACS). While the comparative benefit of ticagrelor over clopidogrel increased over time, event rates accrued in both groups during the study period. The purpose of our biomarker-based exploratory analysis was to determine whether long-term platelet inhibition may be associated with platelet adaptation. A sample of 4000 participants from the PLATO trial also consented to participate in a prospectively designed biomarker substudy. Blood samples were procured at baseline, immediately prior to hospital discharge and at 1 and 6 months. Markers of platelet activity, including platelet count, serum CD40-ligand and soluble P-selectin were analyzed. Mean levels were compared at discharge, 1 and 6 months following study drug initiation-first for all patients and subsequently stratified by treatment group. A linear mixed model was used to estimate the short-term change rate (baseline to 1 month) and long-term change rate (1-6 months) for each biomarker. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to calculate hazard ratios for each change in biomarker over the two time periods examined: baseline to 1 month and 1 to 6 months. Prior to randomized treatment (baseline), sCD40 ligand and sP-selectin levels were elevated above the normal range of the assay (0.39 and 33.5 A μg/L, respectively). The mean level of each biomarker was significantly different at 1 month compared to baseline (p < 0.0001). When stratified by treatment group, at 1 month patients treated with ticagrelor had a larger increase in platelet count compared to those treated with clopidogrel (p < 0.0001). Similarly, when comparing biomarker levels for all patients at 6 months with those at 1 month, each differed significantly (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between treatment groups during this time period. The rate of change for both platelet count and sP-selectin were significantly different between baseline and 1 month when compared to the 1 to 6-month time period (p < 0.0001). When comparing treatment groups, the rate of increase in platelets from baseline to 1 month was greater for patients treated with ticagrelor (p < 0.0001). This was no longer observed in the 1 to 6-month interval. Using a Cox proportional hazard model, the increase in platelet count from 1 to 6 months was associated with ischemic-thrombotic events, while sCD40 ligand decrease from 1 to 6 months was associated with hemorrhagic events. There were no differences between treatment groups for the associations with clinical endpoints. Dynamic changes in platelet count, sCD-40 ligand and sP-selectin occur over time among patients with ACS. Platelet-directed therapy with a P2Y12 receptor inhibitor in combination with aspirin modestly impacts the expression of these biomarkers. Platelet count and sCD40 ligand may offer modest overall predictive value for future ischemic-thrombotic or hemorrhagic clinical events, respectively. The existence of a platelet adaptome and its overall clinical significance among patients at risk for thrombotic events will require a more in-depth and platelet-biology specific investigation.

  • Electronic and optical properties of InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots with tunable aspect-ratio
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Modern Physics Letters B. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt. - 0217-9849 .- 1793-6640. ; 28:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, a combined approach of finite element method (FEM) and quadratic programming optimization method is proposed to investigate the nonuniform equilibrium composition profile of InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) in the framework of Gibbs energy optimization (GEO). The proposed QDs are varied with aspect ratio from 0.3 to 0.5. The wave functions of electron and heavy hole are predicted by using the k . p method. The changes of wave functions before and after optimization can be observed by using composition optimization. Both the eigenvalues and transition energy change obviously with the increasing aspect ratio. The linear optical absorption coefficients corresponding to the interband ground state transition are obtained via the density matrix approach and perturbation expansion method. The numerical results reveal that the aspect ratio and composition profile play significant roles in determining the electronic and optical properties.
