  • Mucin layers and multilayers — Physicochemical properties and applications
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science. - : Elsevier. - 1359-0294 .- 1879-0399. ; 15:6, s. 395-405
  • Forskningsöversikt (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The present review summarizes recent, and important previous, findings on properties of mucin layers and multilayers and ways to tailor their properties. Specifically, progress has been made in understanding the effects of mucin type, preparations, ambient conditions and surface properties on adsorption and on mixed layer assembly including multilayers. Apart from structural features the stability, lubrication and biological functions of such layers are addressed.

  • Nonadmissible convergence in symmetric spaces
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Journal für die Reine und Angewandte Mathematik. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 0075-4102 .- 1435-5345. ; :472, s. 53-68
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the disc (or half-plane, or half-space) the well-known Fatou theorem says that the Poisson integral of an $L^1$-function has non-tangential boundary limits a.e. J. Marcinkiewicz and A. Zygmund cleared up the corresponding situation in products of discs (or half-spaces), introducing the notions of restricted and unrestricted non-tangential convergence. For general Riemannian symmetric spaces the corresponding notions ("restricted and unrestricted admissible convergence") have also been found, and the classical results generalized, some time ago. In 1984 A. Nagel and E. M. Stein investigated again the half-space case and found that the convergence theorem could be proved for slightly larger than nontangential approach domains (the exact description is too technical to state here). The subject of the present paper is to extend this investigation to general Riemannian symmetric spaces. The notion of restricted admissible convergence (which is the natural one for $L^1$-functions) is appropriately extended and the convergence theorem proved in a way which seems to be the final word on the subject. Unrestricted convergence (which goes with $L^p$ functions, $p>1$) is also discussed and a theorem proved, but only in the case of one particular example of a space of rank two. The proofs display considerable virtuosity in the application of real-variable methods.

  • On the sharpness of the Stolz approach
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Annales Academiae Scientiarum Fennicae Mathematica. - 1239-629X .- 1798-2383. ; 31:1, s. 47-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the sharpness of the Stolz approach for the a.e. convergence of functions in the Hardy spaces in the unit disc, first settled in the rotation invariant case by J. E. Littlewood in 1927 and later examined, under less stringent, quantitative hypothesis, by H. Aikawa in 1991. We introduce a new regularity condition, of a qualitative type, under which we prove a version of Littlewood's theorem for tangential approach whose shape may vary from point to point. Our regularity condition can be extended in those contexts where no group is involved, such as NTA domains in Rn. We show exactly in what sense our regularity condition is sharp.

  • The decision-making process in Swedish forensic psychiatric investigations.
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International journal of law and psychiatry. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-6386 .- 0160-2527. ; 80
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Forensic psychiatric investigations in Sweden can have a major impact on the choice of sentence in criminal cases. Previous research shows that the decisions in several forensic fields, including forensic psychiatry, can be affected in a negative way by factors not relevant to the case. In the present study, the decision-making process of forensic psychiatric investigations was explored by using semi-structured interviews with experts (n=38) and analyzing these interviews thematically. The results showed that the decision-making process is both complex and iterative, where the experts use and shape a substantial amount of information to reach their decisions. The experts work in teams, which add both benefits and risks to the process, and feel that particularly time constraints may reduce the quality of their decisions. In summary, the decision-making process of Swedish forensic psychiatric investigations creates a potential for high validity, but also contains risks for bias effects that could warrant further mitigation.

  • Time-Resolved and High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation Crystallography using X-ray Area Detectors: Calibration and Applications
  • 1996
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis relates to characterisation and calibration techniques for X-ray area detectors with applications in time-resolved and high-energy X-ray crystallography. X-ray crystallography is an interdisciplinary science with important applications in many fields, e.g. chemistry, physics, biology, geology and materials science. With the advent of third generation synchrotron radiation (SR) sources, which offer X-ray beams of high flux, brilliance and energy, new areas of time-resolved crystallography (e.g. in-situ studies of phase transitions, chemical reactions and excited states) and high-energy crystallography (e.g. accurate structural studies) have become accessible. X-ray area detectors can simultaneously record a large solid angle of scattered X-ray photons. This is an important advantage, compared to point or one-dimensional detectors. However, X-ray area detectors are complicated, and can, due to various reasons (e.g. detector geometry), introduce distortions (i.e. systematic errors) into the acquired data. Given that these distortions are reproducible, they can be characterised and very largely corrected. In this thesis are developed techniques for characterisation and calibration of spatial distortion, non-uniformity of response and intensity non-linearity of X-ray area detectors, which were successfully used in a number of time-resolved and high-energy studies: Time-resolved in-situ study of the solid-state polymerisation of S2N2 to (SN)x using high-energy monochromatic X-ray powder diffraction. Apart from reaction kinetics, the experiment also yielded information relating to the polymerisation mechanism on both the macroscopic (bulk) and microscopic (atomic) level. Time-resolved study of the conversion of .alfa.-(ET)2I31 to .alfa.T-(ET)2I3 using high-energy monochromatic single-crystal diffraction: A metal-superconductor transition. The conversion was found to be of non-diffusive nature, and the structure of .alfa.T-(ET)2I3 was elucidated for the first time. Time-resolved single-crystal diffraction study of a phase transition in Ni3Sb. The transition was followed by recording the time evolution of individual peaks, and was found to be a diffusionless displacive transition. This thesis demonstrates the usefulness of the combination of X-ray area detectors and high-energy synchrotron radiation in general, and in particular the high data quality obtained after applying calibration techniques. 1 (where ET is bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene, C10S8H8)

  • A meta-analysis and systematic literature review of factors associated with sexual risk-taking during international travel
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease. - : Elsevier BV. - 1477-8939 .- 1873-0442. ; 24, s. 65-88
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: International travel facilitates global spread of sexually transmitted infections (STI). Travellers could contribute to onward transmission of pathogens rarely encountered at home and export new strains to the destination. The aim was to systematically examine evidence regarding determinants of travel-related sexual risk-taking and identify knowledge gaps and areas for targeted interventions. Method: Articles published in peer-reviewed journals from 2000 to 2017 were screened in 6 databases and assessed for relevance against criteria. Data was extracted for factors associated with travel-related STI or proxies. Meta-analyses estimated pooled prevalence of casual sex and non-condom use. Adjusted odds ratios of predictors were pooled to generate a combined estimate. Result: Forty-nine articles qualified for inclusion. A heterogeneity test indicated variation across studies. The pooled prevalence of casual travel sex was 35% and prevalence of non-condom use 17%. Expectations of casual sex strongly predicted sex with a new partner when travelling abroad. Planning to have sex indicated condom use. Conclusion: The studies largely represented sub-groups of risk-taking populations from a European context, indicating substantial knowledge gaps. Studies investigating migrants travelling to visit friends and relatives, older travellers, and female travelers are needed. Post–travel harm reduction activities may serve as a focus for future interventions.

  • A sensor circuit using reference-based conductance switching in organic electrochemical transistors
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 93:20, s. 203301-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using organic electrochemical transistors as sensors, the sample-receptor reaction often induces moderate changes only in the drain current dynamics as the gate voltage level is switched. Here, we report an electrochemical sensor circuit including electrochemical transistors based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with polystyrenesulfonate that puts out a static sensor response signal. The circuit includes a sample and a reference transistor that are both driven in the resistive mode at 0.1 V. Measurements were performed on aqueous salt electrolytes ranging from 100 to 500 mM concentrations. The signal-ON sensor circuit provides a tenfold increase in the sensitivity as compared to single transistor sensors.
