  • Hybrid Millimeter-Wave Systems: A Novel Paradigm for HetNets
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IEEE Communications Magazine. - 0163-6804 .- 1558-1896. ; 53:1, s. 216-221
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heterogeneous networks, HetNets, are known to enhance the bandwidth efficiency and throughput of wireless networks by more effectively utilizing the network resources. However, the higher density of users and access points in HetNets introduces significant inter-user interference that needs to be mitigated through complex and sophisticated interference cancellation schemes. Moreover, due to significant channel attenuation and the presence of hardware impairments, e.g. phase noise and amplifier non-linearities, the vast bandwidth in the millimeter-wave band has not been fully utilized to date. In order to enable the development of multi-Gigabit per second wireless networks, we introduce a novel millimeter-wave HetNet paradigm, termed hybrid HetNet, which exploits the vast bandwidth and propagation characteristics in the 60 GHz and 70-80 GHz bands to reduce the impact of interference in HetNets. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance advantage of hybrid HetNets with respect to traditional networks. Next, two specific transceiver structures that enable hand-offs from the 60 GHz band, i.e. the V-band to the 70-80 GHz band, i.e. the E-band, and vice versa are proposed. Finally, the practical and regulatory challenges for establishing a hybrid HetNet are outlined.

  • Composite GRFS and CRFS Outcomes After Adult Alternative Donor HCT
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Oncology. - : American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). - 0732-183X .- 1527-7755. ; 38:18, s. 2062-2076
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE There is no consensus on the best choice of an alternative donor (umbilical cord blood [UCB], haploidentical, one-antigen mismatched [7/8]-bone marrow [BM], or 7/8-peripheral blood [PB]) for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for patients lacking an HLA-matched related or unrelated donor.METHODS We report composite end points of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)-free relapse-free survival (GRFS) and chronic GVHD (cGVHD)-free relapse-free survival (CRFS) in 2,198 patients who underwent UCB (n = 838), haploidentical (n = 159), 7/8-BM (n = 241), or 7/8-PB (n = 960) HCT. All groups were divided by myeloablative conditioning (MAC) intensity or reduced intensity conditioning (RIC), except haploidentical group in which most received RIC. To account for multiple testing, P < .0071 in multivariable analysis and P < .00025 in direct pairwise comparisons were considered statistically significant.RESULTS In multivariable analysis, haploidentical group had the best GRFS, CRFS, and overall survival (OS). In the direct pairwise comparison of other groups, among those who received MAC, there was no difference in GRFS or CRFS among UCB, 7/8-BM, and 7/8-PB with serotherapy (alemtuzumab or antithymocyte globulin) groups. In contrast, the 7/8-PB without serotherapy group had significantly inferior GRFS, higher cGVHD, and a trend toward worse CRFS (hazard ratio [HR], 1.38; 95% CI, 1.13 to 1.69; P = .002) than the 7/8-BM group and higher cGVHD and trend toward inferior CRFS (HR, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.63; P = .0006) than the UCB group. Among patients with RIC, all groups had significantly inferior GRFS and CRFS compared with the haploidentical group.CONCLUSION Recognizing the limitations of a registry retrospective analysis and the possibility of center selection bias in choosing donors, our data support the use of UCB, 7/8-BM, or 7/8-PB (with serotherapy) grafts for patients undergoing MAC HCT and haploidentical grafts for patients undergoing RIC HCT. The haploidentical group had the best GRFS, CRFS, and OS of all groups.

  • Genome-wide association study of glioma subtypes identifies specific differences in genetic susceptibility to glioblastoma and non-glioblastoma tumors
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 49:5, s. 789-794
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have transformed our understanding of glioma susceptibility, but individual studies have had limited power to identify risk loci. We performed a meta-analysis of existing GWAS and two new GWAS, which totaled 12,496 cases and 18,190 controls. We identified five new loci for glioblastoma (GBM) at 1p31.3 (rs12752552; P = 2.04 x 10(-9), odds ratio (OR) = 1.22), 11q14.1 (rs11233250; P = 9.95 x 10(-10), OR = 1.24), 16p13.3 (rs2562152; P = 1.93 x 10-8, OR = 1.21), 16q12.1 (rs10852606; P = 1.29 x 10(-11), OR = 1.18) and 22q13.1 (rs2235573; P = 1.76 x 10(-10), OR = 1.15), as well as eight loci for non-GBM tumors at 1q32.1 (rs4252707; P = 3.34 x 10(-9), OR = 1.19), 1q44 (rs12076373; P = 2.63 x 10(-10), OR = 1.23), 2q33.3 (rs7572263; P = 2.18 x 10(-10), OR = 1.20), 3p14.1 (rs11706832; P = 7.66 x 10(-9), OR = 1.15), 10q24.33 (rs11598018; P = 3.39 x 10-8, OR = 1.14), 11q21 (rs7107785; P = 3.87 x 10(-10), OR = 1.16), 14q12 (rs10131032; P = 5.07 x 10(-11), OR = 1.33) and 16p13.3 (rs3751667; P = 2.61 x 10(-9), OR = 1.18). These data substantiate that genetic susceptibility to GBM and non-GBM tumors are highly distinct, which likely reflects different etiology.

  • Biomass availability in Sweden for use in blast furnaces : International Conference on Applied Energy, ICAE2014
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Energy Procedia. - : Elsevier. ; , s. 1352-1355
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on the type of BF operated in Sweden, the pulverized coal (PC) has primarily been considered replaceable. If replacing the PC, a reduction of 1.25 Mton CO2 annually is possible, which would require approximately 4 TWh charcoal (0.46 Mton) or 7.14 TWh of dry raw biomass. This amount of biomass is substantial and availability is the main concern discussed in this paper. Uncertainty of the future biomass supply makes predictions beyond 2030 difficult. However, the predictions used in this work indicate that there is an unused potential, which could cover the need of all PCI in Sweden. Other aspects could potentially limit the proportion of PCI replaced by biomass, which should be further investigated.

  • Towards emotion recognition for virtual environments : an evaluation of eeg features on benchmark dataset
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Personal and Ubiquitous Computing. - London : Springer London. - 1617-4909 .- 1617-4917. ; 21:6, s. 1003-1013
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the challenges in virtual environments is the difficulty users have in interacting with these increasingly complex systems. Ultimately, endowing machines with the ability to perceive users emotions will enable a more intuitive and reliable interaction. Consequently, using the electroencephalogram as a bio-signal sensor, the affective state of a user can be modelled and subsequently utilised in order to achieve a system that can recognise and react to the user’s emotions. This paper investigates features extracted from electroencephalogram signals for the purpose of affective state modelling based on Russell’s Circumplex Model. Investigations are presented that aim to provide the foundation for future work in modelling user affect to enhance interaction experience in virtual environments. The DEAP dataset was used within this work, along with a Support Vector Machine and Random Forest, which yielded reasonable classification accuracies for Valence and Arousal using feature vectors based on statistical measurements and band power from the and waves and High Order Crossing of the EEG signal. © 2017, The Author(s).
