• RIS-Aided Wireless Communications : Prototyping, Adaptive Beamforming, and Indoor/Outdoor Field Trials
• 2021
• Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Communications. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0090-6778 .- 1558-0857. ; 69:12, s. 8627-8640
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The prospects of using a Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) to aid wireless communication systems have recently received much attention from academia and industry. Most papers make theoretical studies based on elementary models, while the prototyping of RIS-aided wireless communication and real-world field trials are scarce. In this paper, we describe a new RIS prototype consisting of 1100 controllable elements working at 5.8 GHz band. We propose an efficient algorithm for configuring the RIS over the air by exploiting the geometrical array properties and a practical receiver-RIS feedback link. In our indoor test, where the transmitter and receiver are separated by a 30 cm thick concrete wall, our RIS prototype provides a 26 dB power gain compared to the baseline case where the RIS is replaced by a copper plate. A 27 dB power gain was observed in the short-distance outdoor measurement. We also carried out long-distance measurements and successfully transmitted a 32 Mbps data stream over 500 m. A 1080p video was live-streamed and it only played smoothly when the RIS was utilized. The power consumption of the RIS is around 1 W. Our paper is vivid proof that the RIS is a very promising technology for future wireless communications.

• Global fine-resolution data on springtail abundance and community structure
• 2024
• Ingår i: Scientific Data. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 2052-4463. ; 11:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Springtails (Collembola) inhabit soils from the Arctic to the Antarctic and comprise an estimated ~32% of all terrestrial arthropods on Earth. Here, we present a global, spatially-explicit database on springtail communities that includes 249,912 occurrences from 44,999 samples and 2,990 sites. These data are mainly raw sample-level records at the species level collected predominantly from private archives of the authors that were quality-controlled and taxonomically-standardised. Despite covering all continents, most of the sample-level data come from the European continent (82.5% of all samples) and represent four habitats: woodlands (57.4%), grasslands (14.0%), agrosystems (13.7%) and scrublands (9.0%). We included sampling by soil layers, and across seasons and years, representing temporal and spatial within-site variation in springtail communities. We also provided data use and sharing guidelines and R code to facilitate the use of the database by other researchers. This data paper describes a static version of the database at the publication date, but the database will be further expanded to include underrepresented regions and linked with trait data.

• Techno-economic assessment of implementing photovoltaic water villas in Maldives
• 2023
• Ingår i: iScience. - : Elsevier Inc.. - 2589-0042. ; 26:5
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Solar energy is considered to be an effective measure to alleviate the shortage of power supply in the Maldives. In this paper, a roof photovoltaic (PV) system integrated into water villas in the Maldives was investigated. Three islands—Ayada Maldives, Angaga Island Resort, and JA Manafaru, located in the southern, central, and northern parts of Maldives—were selected for a case study. The potential of PV installations in Ayada Maldives, Angaga Island Resort, and JA Manafaru reaches 1,410, 445, and 742 kW, with corresponding annual power generation of 2.04, 0.64, and 1.12 GWh, respectively. The profits over the life cycle of 25 years of the above three studied islands are 4.86, 1.52, and 2.90 million USD, respectively, with payback periods in the range of 6–7 years.

• Highly Stretchable Conjugated Polymer/Elastomer Blend Films with Sandwich Structure
• 2023
• Ingår i: Macromolecular rapid communications. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1022-1336 .- 1521-3927.
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The physical blending of high-mobility conjugated polymers with ductile elastomers provides a simple way to realize high-performance stretchable films. However, how to control the morphology of the conjugated polymer and elastomer blend film and its response to mechanical fracture processes during stretching are not well understood. Herein, a sandwich structure is constructed in the blend film based on a conjugated polymer poly[(5-fluoro-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4,7-diyl)(4,4-dihexadecyl-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b & DPRIME;]dithiophene-2,6-diyl)(6-fluoro-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4,7-diyl)(4,4-dihexadecyl-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b & DPRIME;]dithiophene-2,6-diyl)] (PCDTFBT) and an elastomer polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene-ran-butylene)-block-polystyrene (SEBS). The sandwich structure is composed of a PCDTFBT:SEBS mixed layer laminated with a PCDTFBT-rich layer at both the top and bottom surfaces. During stretching, the external strain energy can be effectively dissipated by the deformation of the crystalline PCDTFBT domains and amorphous SEBS phases and the recrystallization of the PCDTFBT chains. This endows the blend film with excellent ductility, with a large crack onset strain exceeding 1100%, and minimized the electrical degradation of the blend film at a large strain. This study indicates that the electrical and mechanical performance of conjugated polymer/elastomer blend films can be improved by manipulating their microstructure.

• Surface states of ZnO nanoparticles effect on the performance of inverted-organic solar cells
• 2013
• Ingår i: Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 1941-7012. ; 5:5
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• ZnO is a promising material used as the electron transport layer in the inverted organic solar cells (IOSCs). However, the electrical or photoelectric properties of ZnO nanoparticles are governed by the surface states of the nanoparticles. Here, we demonstrate that the large number of hydroxyl (-OH) existed on the ZnO nanoparticles films have a vast impact on the performance of IOSCs with the structure of ITO/ZnO/poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]-phenyl C-61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/MoO3/Ag. The surface hydroxyl groups depredate active layer via elevating photocatalytic activity of the ZnO, hence deteriorate the device performance. Experimental results show that hydroxyl groups can be effectively detached from ZnO film by annealing. Hydroxyl groups detach more with increasing annealing temperature, resulting in less degradation of the active layer. Therefore, the efficiency is significantly improved due to increased photo-current density and decreased series resistance of IOSCs. The best device exhibits a power conversion efficiency of 3.05% after annealing at 150 degrees C.

• Immune Genetic Algorithms for Optimization of Task Priorities and FlexRay Frame Identifiers
• 2009
• Ingår i: Intl. Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications (RTCSA), Beijing, China, August 24-26, 2009.. - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9780769537870 ; , s. 486-493
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• FlexRay is an automotive communication protocol that combines the comprehensive time-triggered paradigm with an adaptive phase that is more suitable for event-based communication. We study optimization of average response times by assigning priorities and frame identifiers to tasks and messages. Our optimization approach is based on immune genetic algorithms, where in addition to the crossover and mutation operators, we use a vaccination operator that results in considerable improvements in optimization time and quality.
