  • Understanding Dementia Speech : Towards an Adaptive Voice Assistant for Enhanced Communication
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: EICS 2024 Companion - Companion of the 2024 ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). ; , s. 15-21
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dementia poses significant challenges to individuals, particularly those grappling with Alzheimer's disease, impacting their daily lives, well-being, and communication. The task of enhancing communication for People with Dementia (PwD) has grown increasingly complex, prompting the exploration of innovative solutions such as voice assistants. Understanding PwD's speech features and conversational content can enhance their communication experiences. Speech feature analysis plays a pivotal role in this process, offering valuable insights into tailoring interactions with PwD. In this study, we analyze speech recordings from the ADReSSo database, which contains speech from both Alzheimer's patients and healthy aging persons. We discovered that several speech features exhibited significant differences between PwD and their healthy counterparts. These speech features can help with dementia identification and also represent the PwD's speaking patterns. Furthermore, the speech emotions of PwD and healthy aging people differ significantly. The clear differences in speech emotions offer valuable cues for crafting emotionally attuned interactions between PwD and voice assistants. These valuable information serves as the foundation for developing future personalized voice assistants dedicated to supporting individuals with dementia by incorporating the identified speech features and emotional information.

  • CdSe quantum dots/molecular cobalt catalyst co-grafted open porous NiO film as a photocathode for visible light driven H-2 evolution from neutral water
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 3:37, s. 18852-18859
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An active noble-metal-free photocathode was fabricated by co-grafting water-soluble thioglycolic acid-stabilized CdSe quantum dots and a molecular cobaloxime catalyst (CoP) through chemical linkage on a p-type open porous NiO film. This photocathode was used as a working electrode in a three-electrode cell, which displayed a photocurrent density up to 110 mu A cm(-2) at an applied potential of 0 V vs. NHE in 0.1 M Na2SO4 solution at pH 6.8 upon visible light illumination. The comparative studies showed that the open porous NiO/CdSe electrode did display a higher photocurrent density than that exhibited by an analogous planar NiO/CdSe electrode made by doctor-blading a NiO paste. Long-time photoelectrolysis experiments revealed that about 83% of the photocurrent density remained after 3.5 h illumination at 0.2 V vs. NHE. The open porous NiO/CdSe/CoP photocathode showed a considerably better current density and photocatalytic stability compared to the so-far reported dye-or QD-sensitized NiO cathodes with a cobaloxime catalyst chemically attached or physically adsorbed on the electrode surface under similar conditions.

  • Circulating concentrations of biomarkers and metabolites related to vitamin status, one-carbon and the kynurenine pathways in US, Nordic, Asian, and Australian populations
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. - : AMER SOC NUTRITION-ASN. - 0002-9165 .- 1938-3207. ; 105:6, s. 1314-1326
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Circulating concentrations of biomarkers that are related to vitamin status vary by factors such as diet, fortification, and supplement use. Published biomarker concentrations have also been influenced by the variation across laboratories, which complicates a comparison of results from different studies. Objective: We robustly and comprehensively assessed differences in biomarkers that are related to vitamin status across geographic regions. Design: The trial was a cross-sectional study in which we investigated 38 biomarkers that are related to vitamin status and one-carbon and tryptophan metabolism in serum and plasma from 5314 healthy control subjects representing 20 cohorts recruited from the United States, Nordic countries, Asia, and Australia, participating in the Lung Cancer Cohort Consortium. All samples were analyzed in a centralized laboratory. Results: Circulating concentrations of riboflavin, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, folate, vitamin B-12, all-trans retinol, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, and a-tocopherol as well as combined vitamin scores that were based on these nutrients showed that the general B-vitamin concentration was highest in the United States and that the B vitamins and lipid soluble vitamins were low in Asians. Conversely, circulating concentrations of metabolites that are inversely related to B vitamins involved in the one-carbon and kynurenine pathways were high in Asians. The high B-vitamin concentration in the United States appears to be driven mainly by multivitamin-supplement users. Conclusions: The observed differences likely reflect the variation in intake of vitamins and, in particular, the widespread multivitamin-supplement use in the United States. The results provide valuable information about the differences in biomarker concentrations in populations across continents.

  • Clinical efficacy of irinotecan plus raltitrexed chemotherapy in refractory esophageal squamous cell cancer
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Anti-Cancer Drugs. - : LIPPINCOTT WILLIAMS & WILKINS. - 0959-4973 .- 1473-5741. ; 31:4, s. 403-410
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Our retrospective study assessed the efficacy and safety of irinotecan plus raltitrexed in esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) patients who were previously treated with multiple systemic therapies. Between January 2016 and December 2018, records of 38 ESCC patients who underwent irinotecan plus raltitrexed chemotherapy after at least one line of chemotherapy were reviewed. Efficacy assessment was performed every two cycles according to the RECIST version 1.1. A total of 95 cycles of chemotherapy were administered, and the median course was 3 (range 2-6). There was no treatment-related death. Nine patients had partial response, 21 had stable disease and eight had progressive disease. The overall objective response rate was 23.68% (9/38) and the disease control rate was78.94% (30/38). After a median follow-up of 18.5 months, the median progression-free survival and overall survival were 105 and 221 days, respectively. There were five patients (13.15%) with grade 3/4 leukopenia, three patients (7.89%) with grade 3/4 neutropenia and one patient (2.63%) with grade 3/4 diarrhea. The combination of irinotecan plus raltitrexed was effective for pretreated ESCC patients. Further studies are needed to determine the optimal dose of the two drugs.

  • First-principle prediction of structural and mechanical properties in NbMoTaWRex refractory high-entropy alloys with experimental validation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Rare Metals. - : Springer Nature. - 1001-0521 .- 1867-7185. ; 41:10, s. 3343-3350
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, the effect of Re alloying on the phase composition, crystal structure, and mechanical properties of NbMoTaWRex (x = 0, 0.27, 0.57, 0.92, 1.33) refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) were systematically investigated by combining the calculation of phase diagram (CALPHAD), first-principle calculations and experiment. The theoretical predictions showed good consistency with the experimental results. As the increase in Re content, the theoretical results showed that all considered alloys have a single body-centered cubic (bcc) structure and the lattice constant and ductility were decreased, while the elastic moduli and hardness were improved. To avoid extreme brittleness, a strategic suggestion was given for the design of Re-containing RHEAs in the future.

  • Tape-Assisted Transfer of Carbon Nanotube Bundles for Through-Silicon-Via Applications
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electronic Materials. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1543-186X .- 0361-5235. ; 44:8, s. 2898-2907
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Robust methods for transferring vertically aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) bundles into through-silicon vias (TSVs) are needed since CNT growth is not compatible with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) technology due to the temperature needed for growing high-quality CNTs (∼700°C). Previous methods are either too complicated or not robust enough, thereby offering too low yields. Here, a facile transfer method using tape at room temperature is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Three different kinds of tape, viz. thermal release tape, Teflon tape, and Scotch tape, were applied as the medium for CNT transfer. The CNT bundle was adhered to the tape through a flip-chip bonder, and the influence of the bonding process on the transfer results was investigated. Two-inch wafer-scale transfer of CNT bundles was realized with yields up to 97% demonstrated. After transfer, the use of several different polymers was explored for filling the gap between the transferred CNT bundle and the sidewalls of the TSV openings to improve the filling performance. The current–voltage characteristic of the CNT TSVs indicated good electrical performance, and by measuring the via resistance as a function of via thickness, contact resistances could be eliminated and an intrinsic CNT resistivity of 1.80 mΩ cm found.

  • Circulating high sensitivity C reactive protein concentrations and risk of lung cancer : nested case-control study within Lung Cancer Cohort Consortium
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: The BMJ. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 1756-1833 .- 0959-8138. ; 364
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives To conduct a comprehensive analysis of prospectively measured circulating high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP) concentration and risk of lung cancer overall, by smoking status (never, former, and current smokers), and histological sub-type.Design Nested case-control study.Setting 20 population based cohort studies in Asia, Europe, Australia, and the United States.Participants 5299 patients with incident lung cancer, with individually incidence density matched controls.Exposure Circulating hsCRP concentrations in prediagnostic serum or plasma samples.Main outcome measure Incident lung cancer diagnosis. Results A positive association between circulating hsCRP concentration and the risk of lung cancer for current (odds ratio associated with a doubling in hsCRP concentration 1.09, 95% confidence interval 1.05 to 1.13) and former smokers (1.09, 1.04 to 1.14) was observed, but not for never smokers (P<0.01 for interaction). This association was strong and consistent across all histological subtypes, except for adenocarcinoma, which was not strongly associated with hsCRP concentration regardless of smoking status (odds ratio for adenocarcinoma overall 0.97, 95% confidence interval 0.94 to 1.01). The association between circulating hsCRP concentration and the risk of lung cancer was strongest in the first two years of follow-up for former and current smokers. Including hsCRP concentration in a risk model, in addition to smoking based variables, did not improve risk discrimination overall, but slightly improved discrimination for cancers diagnosed in the first two years of follow-up.Conclusions Former and current smokers with higher circulating hsCRP concentrations had a higher risk of lung cancer overall. Circulating hsCRP concentration was not associated with the risk of lung adenocarcinoma. Circulating hsCRP concentration could be a prediagnostic marker of lung cancer rather than a causal risk factor.

  • A control oriented strategy of disruption prediction to avoid the configuration collapse of tokamak reactors
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - 2041-1723 .- 2041-1723. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of thermonuclear fusion consists of producing electricity from the coalescence of light nuclei in high temperature plasmas. The most promising route to fusion envisages the confinement of such plasmas with magnetic fields, whose most studied configuration is the tokamak. Disruptions are catastrophic collapses affecting all tokamak devices and one of the main potential showstoppers on the route to a commercial reactor. In this work we report how, deploying innovative analysis methods on thousands of JET experiments covering the isotopic compositions from hydrogen to full tritium and including the major D-T campaign, the nature of the various forms of collapse is investigated in all phases of the discharges. An original approach to proximity detection has been developed, which allows determining both the probability of and the time interval remaining before an incoming disruption, with adaptive, from scratch, real time compatible techniques. The results indicate that physics based prediction and control tools can be developed, to deploy realistic strategies of disruption avoidance and prevention, meeting the requirements of the next generation of devices.

  • An approach to water-soluble hydrogenase active site models : Synthesis and electrochemistry of diiron dithiolate complexes with 3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo 3.3.1 nonane ligand(s)
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-328X .- 1872-8561. ; 691:23, s. 5045-5051
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to improve the hydro- and protophilicity of the active site models of the Fe-only hydrogenases, three diiron dithiolate complexes with DAPTA ligand(s) (DAPTA=3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanc), (mu-pdt)[Fe(CO)(2)][Fe(CO)(2)(DAPTA)] (1, pdt = 1,3-propanedithiolato), (mu-pdt)[Fe(CO)(2)(DAPTA)](2) (2) and (mu-pdt)[Fe(CO)(2)(PTA)][Fe(CO)(2)(DAPTA)] (3), were prepared and spectroscopically characterized. The water solubility of DAPTA-coordinate complexes 1-3 is better than that of the PTA-coordinate analogues. With complexes 1-3 as electrocatalysts, the overvoltage is reduced by 460-770 mV for proton reduction from acetic acid at low concentration in CH3CN. Significant decrease, up to 420 mV, in reduction potential for the Fe(I)Fe(I) to Fe(I)Fe(0) process and the curve-crossing phenomenon are observed in cyclic voltammograms of 2 and 3 in CH3CN/H2O mixtures. The introduction of the DAPTA ligand to the diiron dithiolate model complexes indeed makes the water solubility of 2 and 3 sufficient for electrochemical studies in pure water, which show that the proton reduction from acetic acid in pure water is electrochemically catalyzed by 2 and 3 at ca. -1.3 V vs. NHE.
