  • Lärande organisationer? : krisen på den svenska fastighetsmarknaden
  • 1995
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Sweden experienced a severe crisis in the real estate market between 1990 and 1994. After nearly a decade of success, the industry was severely struck. The obvious questions to rise are: what happened and how could it happen so suddenly? Were there no warning signals or where they overlooked by the speed blindness of the real estate industry? The research question is raised if theories about organisational learning can explain the slowness of adaptation. The study raises the question about the companies’ ability to learn and unlearn when their business conditions changes. The focus lies on the construction- and real estate companies listed at the Swedish Stock Exchange 1990. They were major actors during the boom and the bust on the real estate market. The analysis of these companies covers the period between 1982 and 1992. Their ability to adapt themselves to changes in the environment is explained by the existence and degree of organisational inertia, which is divided into insight inertia and action inertia. The research focuses on the finding and identification of industry recipes, which denote the shared knowledge base that the companies within the industry took as familiar. The study shows that a number of warning signals did exist during 1987 and 1988. These warning signals were reinforced over time as new ones emerged in 1989 and 1990.The companies investments culminated in 1989 and 1990. The analysis of the companies investments during these years shows that the warning signals did not have any significant effect on investment volumes. A conclusion is that the companies’ strategies between 1985-1990 could be characterised as "more of the same recipe". The companies gradually achieved an insight about the nature of the changes in the environment but it occurred first during 1991 and 1992. The study can give a better understanding of the companies’ ability to leam and unlearn when their business conditions changed during the crisis.

  • Quantitative proteogenomics of human pathogens using DIA-MS.
  • 2015
  • In: Journal of Proteomics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1874-3919 .- 1876-7737. ; 129, s. 98-107
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The increasing number of bacterial genomes in combination with reproducible quantitative proteome measurements provides new opportunities to explore how genetic differences modulate proteome composition and virulence. It is challenging to combine genome and proteome data as the underlying genome influences the proteome. We present a strategy to facilitate the integration of genome data from several genetically similar bacterial strains with data-independent analysis mass spectrometry (DIA-MS) for rapid interrogation of the combined data sets. The strategy relies on the construction of a composite genome combining all genetic data in a compact format, which can accommodate the fusion with quantitative peptide and protein information determined via DIA-MS. We demonstrate the method by combining data sets from whole genome sequencing, shotgun MS and DIA-MS from 34 clinical isolates of Streptococcus pyogenes. The data structure allows for fast exploration of the data showing that undetected proteins are on average more amenable to amino acid substitution than expressed proteins. We identified several significantly differentially expressed proteins between invasive and non-invasive strains. The work underlines how integration of whole genome sequencing with accurately quantified proteomes can further advance the interpretation of the relationship between genomes, proteomes and virulence.

  • Vad bör en kommunpolitisk ledare kunna? : Kunskaper som symboliskt kapital bland socialdemokratiska lokalpolitiker
  • 2021
  • In: Utbildning och Demokrati. - : Orebro University. - 1102-6472 .- 2001-7316. ; 30:3, s. 33-56
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In Sweden, there are no specific academic paths leading to a political career and many local elected leaders develop the knowledge they need in other ways. The aim of this article is to find out which kinds of knowledge they value and how they develop these. Using the results from questionnaires and interviews with local social democratic leaders, four groups of knowledge that constitute symbolic capital in the field of Swedish local politics are identified: ideological, communicative, organisational and academic. Some types of knowledge are communicated openly, whilst others are hard to pinpoint and even contradictory, which tends to exclude some members. Both long-term members and newer members find attending party training useful to develop the knowledge they need to get elected and fulfil their political assignment.

  • 5G Positioning : A Machine Learning Approach
  • 2019
  • In: 2019 16th Workshop on Positioning, Navigation and Communications (WPNC). - : IEEE. - 9781728120829 - 9781728120836
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In urban environments, cellular network-based positioning of user equipment (UE) is a challenging task, especially in frequently occurring non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions. This paper investigates the use of two machine learning methods – neural networks and random forests – to estimate the position of UE in NLOS using best received reference signal beam power measurements. We evaluated the suggested positioning methods using data collected from a fifth-generation cellular network (5G) testbed provided by Ericsson. A statistical test to detect NLOS conditions with a probability of detection that is close to 90% is suggested. We show that knowledge of the antenna are crucial for accurate position estimation. In addition, our results show that even with a limited set of training data and one 5G transmission point, it is possible to position UE within 10 meters with 80% accuracy.

  • A Meta-Analysis of the Impact of Entrepreneurs’ Gender on their Access to Bank Finance
  • 2024
  • In: Journal of Business Ethics. - : Springer Nature. - 0167-4544 .- 1573-0697. ; 192, s. 803-820
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This meta-analysis of 31 studies over 20 years advances our understanding of the gender gap in entrepreneurial bank finance. Findings from previous research on the relationship between entrepreneurs’ gender and bank financing are mixed, which suggests the need to pay particular attention to entrepreneurs’ social context. In this study, we develop a model of how social gender norms explain variation in women entrepreneurs’ (vis-à-vis men entrepreneurs’) access to bank finance. Specifically, we theorize how women’s formal (their nations’ political ideologies) and informal (women’s empowerment) social standing within their societies influence gender discrimination in entrepreneurial bank financing. Consistent with most previous studies, our baseline results show that women entrepreneurs’ business loan applications are rejected to a greater extent than men entrepreneurs’ loan applications. Women entrepreneurs also pay higher interest rates on loans than men entrepreneurs. Further, in societies dominated by a conservative (rather than a liberal) political ideology, the positive relationship between women entrepreneurs and loan interest rates is more positive. Interestingly, gender discrimination in loan rejection and interest rates is magnified in societies with greater women’s empowerment. Taking a social gender-norm perspective, our analysis establishes a gender gap in entrepreneurial bank finance, and we outline an agenda for further research.

  • Acquiring competence to create and sustain competitive advantages : a study of four small high technology firms
  • 2002
  • Licentiate thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The research questions addressed in this licentiate thesis are; How can small firms acquire competence? What factors can be identified as important for understanding how competence is acquired in small firms? Why are these factors important? Three factor groups are included in building a preliminary model of competence acquisition; the entrepreneur, the business concept, and the competence base which are identified in the literature as affecting competence acquisition. The surrounding environment is seen as a platform for the acquisition of competence. Three different modes of competence acquisition are discussed; internal, social network, and market. The entrepreneurs of four small firms were interviewed where competence acquisition processes were in focus. The processes in each firm are, first, analyzed separately. Second, a between-process analysis is conducted in each firm and, third, a between-firm analysis is carried out where aspects of the factor groups are brought out. The phenomenon concerning competence acquisition is very complex. The factor groups do not only, per se, affect acquisition of competence. Aspects of the factor groups may, in fact, express a more complex picture of how the factors affect acquisition of competence. The modes of competence acquisition appear in combinations and sequences. Competence acquisition processes are built in sequences over time. Strategies in competence acquisition emerge in patterns that develop.

  • All-fiber cavity dumping
  • 2009
  • In: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 17:20, s. 17596-17602
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Cavity dumping of an all-fiber laser system is demonstrated. The active element is a pulse-picker with nanosecond rise time consisting of a microstructured fiber with electrically driven internal electrodes. The device is used for intracavity polarization rotation and dumping through a polarization splitter. The optical flux is removed from the cavity within one roundtrip and most of the amplified spontaneous emission, spiking and relaxation oscillation that follow during the gain recovery phase of the laser are blocked from the output signal.
