Firstly, the ambition is to analyze the role of the government in relation to private industry in the development of the nuclear power infrastructure in Sweden in the period of 1945-1970. Secondly, the purpose is to account for what was actually made in terms of education, research and financial funding in “the Swedish line” and to assess its importance for the swift take over by the light water reactor system.

    • The project of Advanced Autoplanner 2 (AAP2) focus on work to increase Swedish actors development and knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for various applications within Air Traffic Management (ATM). The project is a follow up from the previous Advanced Autoplanner (AAP) which focused on the AI technology, without Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) interaction. (Mudhakar et.al. 2021). The AAP2 work was done in collaboration between Luftfartsverket (LFV), Linkoping University (LiU) and Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE).

  • SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FOR SWEDEN - TECHNOLOGY & CAPABILITY ASSESSMENT TARGETING 2045
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 33rd CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE AERONAUTICAL SCIENCES. - 2958-4647.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The goal of this project is to analyse the possibilities offered by different technological solutions to achieve zero emission aviation, firstly in the Swedish/Nordic network context and secondly extend this to the European context. This project will investigate the potential and feasibility of new or upgraded aircraft types based on the different technologies mapped from both, various published roadmaps and national expertise from Swedish aerospace universities and companies. This involves developing aircraft conceptual designs studies and trade analysis with regards to different fuel types, propulsion technologies, structure, operations, network and fleet management, and all relevant technologies. The project will, on a common technology basis, analyse a range of zero carbon fuels and associated technologies through operational studies and optimization to accelerate the introduction of fossil free aircraft technology and choosing optimal paths for making aviation sustainable.

  • The History of Nuclear Medicine
  • 2022. - 1st Edition
  • Ingår i: Handbook of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging for Physicists : Instrumentation and Imaging Procedures - Instrumentation and Imaging Procedures. - New York : CRC Press. - 9781138593268 - 9781032058689 - 9780429489556 ; 1:1, s. 1-14
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The chapter provides a historic overview of the research in physics and chemistry for the development of radionuclides, radiopharmaceuticals, and instrumentation which have had a major impact for the today’s status of nuclear medicine. During the first half of the 20th century in particular, a number of researchers with relevance to the development of nuclear medicine have been awarded the Nobel Prize. After Röntgen’s and Becquerel's fantastic discoveries, 1885 and 1886 respectively, the first three decades were characterized by a systematic research that resulted in a growing use of ionizing radiation in medicine. The inventions of the cyclotron in the 1930s and the fission reactor in the early 1940s resulted into production of a variety of radionuclides. The development of the 99Mo-99Tcm-generator 1957, initiated a successive expansion of developed radiopharmaceuticals. The 1950s was the decade when the fundamental imaging devices, the scintigraph and the Anger camera, was invented and became outstanding workhorses during years. The decades to come, 1970-1990, led to further instrumental development with tomographic techniques, SPECT and PET, as well as a growing interest in radioimmunology and internal dosimetry. The last decade’s research has led into an improved imaging by multi-modality systems, SPECT/CT and PET/CT, sophisticated molecular imaging, and individual patient dosimetry. Nuclear medicine is cutting-edge and will remain a significant field in diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy. The medical physicist has an important role to play for further development – to be the expert link between radiation physics, imaging technology and medical applications.

  • Benevolent technotopias and hitherto unimaginable meats: Tracing the promises of in vitro meat
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Social Studies of Science. - : SAGE Publications. - 0306-3127 .- 1460-3659. ; 46:5, s. 725-748
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Today, in vitro (Latin: in glass) meat researchers strive to overhaul meat production technologies by producing meat outside animal bodies, primarily by culturing cells. In the process, meat should become healthier, more environmentally friendly and kinder to animals. In this article, I scrutinize (and problematize) this promissory discourse by examining the world that proponents envision alongside the world from which promises emerge. First, I trace the increasing number of publications striving to pinpoint the nature of in vitro meat to unveil the creation of an in vitro meat canon wherein perceived possibilities become taken for granted. Second, I investigate how the promissory discourse is often relatively silent on key aspects of how this technology could remake the world. Wet laboratories, animals and end products become foregrounded at the expense of political economy and the biophysical properties of cultured cells. Thus, questions concerning how funding requirements shape representations of this new technology, together with in vitro meat’s particular socio-spatial and socio-ecological implications, become problematically de-emphasized.

  • Historical perspectives on forestry science and monocultures : Ideas of rationality in Sweden during the early twentieth century
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Ambio: a Journal of Environment and Society. - 0044-7447. ; 53:6, s. 933-940
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study aims to broaden our historical knowledge about ideas of rationalism and monocultures in forestry science and rational forest management. Empirically, it focuses on the writings of Swedish forestry scientist Henrik Hesselman, active in the early twentieth century. The texts were analyzed using the method of historical contextualization. The study indicates that monocultures historically have been subjected to debates richer than what previous research gives credit for. Besides a rationalist technology, monocultures have been conceptualized as an example of non-rational forestry failing to deliver sustainable yields. Moreover, instead of only simplifications, one-size-fits-all solutions, and top-down reforms, historical forestry science representatives have also at times understood rational forest management as a quest for complexity, site-specific solutions, and bottom-up approaches. It is argued that our understanding of forest use and society–environment relations, more generally, benefit from more historical contextualization.
