- Continuous software engineering refers to the organizational capability to develop, release and learn from software in very short rapid cycles, typically hours, days or a very small numbers of weeks. This requires not only agile processes in teams but in the complete research and development organization. Additionally, the technology used in the different development phases, like requirements engineering and system integration, must support the quick development cycles. Finally, automatic live experimentation for different system alternatives enables fast gathering of required data for decision making. The workshop, the second in the series after the first one at ICSE 2014, aims to bring the research communities of the aforementioned areas together to exchange challenges, ideas, and solutions to bring software engineering a step further to being a holistic continuous process. The workshop program is based on eight papers selected in the peer-review process and supplemented by interaction and discussions at the workshop. The topics range from agile methods, continuous software engineering practices to specific techniques, like visualization and testing.

Detecting performance bad smells for henshin model transformations

- In model-driven software engineering, model transformations are used for the specification of model changes. Similar to programs also model transformations can exhibit bad smells which indicate possible weaknesses. In this paper, we address bad smells which can negatively affect the performance of the application of model transformations, particularly, model transformations defined in Henshin. Based on a description of the Henshin interpreter and its performance enhancing strategies, we describe a set of bad smells and corresponding detectors. We evaluate the detectors by applying them to the example rule set of Henshin.

- Self-adaptive systems autonomously adjust their behavior in order to achieve their goals despite changes in the environment and the system itself. Self-adaption is typically implemented in software and often expressed in terms of architectural reconfiguration. The graph transformation formalism is a natural way to model the architectural reconfiguration in self-adaptive systems. In this paper, we present (1) how we employ graph transformations for the specification of architectural reconfiguration and (2) how we transform graph transformations into actions of the Planning Domain Definition Language (PDDL) in order to use off-the-shelf tools for the computation of self-adaptation plans. We illustrate our approach by a self-healing process and show the results of a simulation case study.

- A generalized ray-tracing procedure has been developed, which facilitates the design of a multimirror-based light collector used in atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. This procedure has been employed to study the optical characteristics of the 3.5 m diameter light collector of the TACTIC Imaging telescope. Comparison of the measured point-spread function of the light collector with the simulated performance of ideal Davies–Cotton and paraboloid designs has been made to determine an optimum arrangement of the 34 spherical mirror facets used in the telescope to obtain the best possible point-spread function. A description of the ray-tracing subroutine used for processing CORSIKA-generated Cherenkov data, required for carrying out Monte-Carlo simulation studies, is also discussed in the paper.

- ElectroEncephaloGram (EEG) spectral power has been extensively used to classify Mental Imagery (MI) of movements involving different body parts. However, there is an increasing need to enable classification of MI of movements within the same limb. In this work, EEG spectral power was recorded in seven subjects while they performed MI of closing (grip) and opening (extension of fingers) the hand. The EEG data was analyzed and the feasibility of classifying MI of the two movements were investigated using two different classification algorithms, a linear regression and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Results show that only the CNN is able to significantly classify MI of opening and closing of the hand with an average classification accuracy of 60.4%. This indicates the presence of higher-order non-linear discriminatory information and demonstrates the potential of using CNN in classifying MI of same-limb movements.

- Human relationships with trees can result in widespread citizen-led reforestation projects that catalyze social-biological-reinforcing feedback loops and set in motion virtuous cycles that restore perturbed social-ecological systems. These virtuous cycles confer resilience in such systems that counterbalance the tendency for vicious cycles to be triggered by destructive behavior and neglect. Given this argument, we ask: how do we cultivate the potential for virtuous cycles to confer resilience in social-ecological systems? To answer this question, we review feedback mechanisms and identify virtuous cycles catalyzed via ecological restoration to highlight their importance to the resilience of social-ecological systems. We then conceptualize these cycles with a causal map (also known as a causal loop diagram) illustrating an example where restoration activities and civic ecology practices contributed to feedbacks and virtuous cycles. Following from this example, we discuss approaches for recognizing and investing in virtuous cycles that accompany social-ecological systems and outline approaches for managing such cycles.

- GILDES, a computer-based model of atmospheric corrosion, has been used to simulate copper exposed at room temperature to 200 ppb SO2 in combination with either NO2 or O-3 at different concentrations. The GILDES model involves the five most important regimes in atmospheric corrosion (gas, liquid, deposition, electrodic, and surface) and includes 27 aqueous species and more than 60 aqueous reactions. Under these exposure conditions copper forms cuprite (Cu2O) and various copper sulfates in both SO2 + NO2 and SO2 + O-3 mixtures, and copper hydroxynitrate in SO2 + NO2 after an incubation time of 4 h. Among these experimental observations the GILDES model correctly predicts the formation of copper sulfate (in both SO2 + O-3 and SO2 + NO2 mixtures) and copper hydroxynitrate (SO2 + NO2). It is furthermore able to predict the formation rate of copper sulfate in SO2 + O-3 mixtures, but not the formation rate of copper sulfate and copper hydroxynitrate in SO2 + NO2 mixtures.
