  • Option Strategies with linear programming
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Operational research. - 0377-2217. ; 157:1, s. 246-256
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In practice, all option strategies are decided in advance, given the investor’s belief of the stock price. In this paper, instead of deciding in advance the most appropriate hedging option strategy, an LP problem is formulated, by considering all significant Greek parameters of the Black-Scholes formula, such as delta, gamma, theta, rho and kappa. The optimal strategy to select will be simply decided by the solution of that model. The LP model is applied to Ericsson’s call and puts options.

  • The Dayton Division of Bosnia and other core allocations
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Applied Economics Letters. - 1350-4851 .- 1466-4291. ; 7:5, s. 325-336
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper evaluates the Dayton Peace Agreement division of Bosnia. Based on Census data from 1991 and under plausible assumptions on all territories (pure ethnic and mixed as well), cooperative core allocations are applied to divide the country into its three parts. The highest share, which is received by the Serbs (the nucleolus solution), is 459 square km less than the respective Dayton share. Serbs, however, benefit from the goal programming implementation of that solution, since less of them are forced to leave their homes, compared to the Dayton division In general, the redrawn nucleolus map of Bosnia, is approximately 93% identical to the Dayton Peace Agreement map.

  • The relative efficiency of UEFA Champions League scorers
  • 2007
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The mass media, the football supporters and other experts in many countries areoften engaged in the ranking of football players. Given the heterogeneity of variousleagues or series in which players play, such a comparison is almost impossible. Onthe other hand, the performance of players in international tournaments, like theFIFA world cup at the national team level, or the UEFA Champions League at theEuropean Club level, can be measured, if we rely on “objective” measures andstatistics. Obviously, since various positions of players are evaluated by differentcriteria, the heterogeneity is still apparent. In this paper we attempt to evaluate asmall subset of a team’s players, namely its scorers, using UEFA:s official match-playstatistics from the Champions League tournament 2006/07.

  • A study of how ICT capabilities can influence dynamic capabilities
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Enterprise Information Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1741-0398 .- 1758-7409. ; 29:2, s. 179-201
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - Prior studies have argued that small firms with dynamic capabilities can revise and reconfigure their internal resources to meet the uncertainties of their business environment. However, there is a lack of understanding of how they can develop such critical capabilities. In this study, we propose that small firms can employ information and communication technology (ICT) capabilities as a facilitator for developing dynamic capabilities. Thus, the study builds on resource-based view (RBV) literature and and information systems (IS) literature by examining the influence of ICT capabilities on the dynamic capabilities of small firms.Design/methodology/approach - Several hypotheses were tested by analyzing the survey data from 291 small high-technology firms in Sweden.Findings - The results reveal that ICT capabilities influence dynamic capabilities of small firms. More specifically, the ICT use for internal efficiency positively influences adoptive capabilities, collaborative use of ICT positively influences networking capabilities, and ICT use for communications positively influences both adaptive and innovation capabilities. Consequently, the results suggest that the different components of ICT capabilities facilitate the development of the different organizational capabilities that together represent dynamic capabilities and thus, can contribute to a small firm’s competitive advantage.Practical implications - This study has few implications for the managers and CEO’s of small high-technology firms. Firstly, by prioritizing ICT capabilities, small firms can benefit from the development of dynamic capabilities that will support them to meet the challenges of turbulent business environment. Secondly, because small firms usually lack internal resources (i.e., financial resources and competence), the study provides more specific direction on how they can strategically invest and build different components of ICT that will positively influence their adaptive, absorptive, innovative and network capabilities.Originality/value – The study provides an alternative view of how ICT capabilities influence the performance of small firms, and outlines how such capabilities influence the development of dynamic capabilities. Therefore, the study in hand contributes to the RBV and IS literature by specifically linking the components of ICT capabilities to dynamic capabilities and its related sub-capabilities.

  • Factors for Elderly Use of Social Media for Health-Related Activities
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Psychology & Marketing. - : Wiley. - 0742-6046 .- 1520-6793. ; 33:12, s. 1134-1141
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elderly individuals are increasingly using social media sites to access health-related information. Using responses from 610 elderly individuals in Sweden to a large-scale questionnaire survey, this study examines technology acceptance model and sociodemographic factors that positively influence elderly individuals’ use of social media for health-related activities. The results show evidence of a positive association between general technology use experience, attitudes toward technology use, age, or gender, and the use of social media for health-related activities. Technology attitudes strengthen the effect on social media use for health-related activities regarding general use of technology, for older individuals, and among females.

  • A Review of the Current Practices of Bioeconomy Education and Training in the EU
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI. - 2071-1050. ; 15:2
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study conducts a review of the current practices of bioeconomy education and training in the EU; as well as the associated methodologies; techniques and approaches. In recent years; considerable efforts have been made towards developing appropriate bioeconomy education and training programs in order to support a transition towards a circular bioeconomy. This review separates bioeconomy education approaches along: higher education and academic approaches, vocational education and training (VET) and practical approaches, short-term training and education approaches, and other approaches. A range of training methodologies and techniques and pedagogical approaches are identified. The main commonalities found amongst these approaches are that they are generally problem based and interdisciplinary, and combine academic and experiential. Higher education approaches are generally based on traditional lecture/campus-based formats with some experiential approaches integrated. In contrast, VET approaches often combine academic and practical learning methods while focusing on developing practical skills. A range of short-term courses and other approaches to bioeconomy education are also reviewed.
