  • Supportive leadership in Swedish community night nursing
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nursing Management. - : Blackwell Publishing. - 0966-0429 .- 1365-2834. ; 18:7, s. 822-831
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim  The aim of the present study was to examine the support night nurses’ give to staff in community night nursing. Background  Studies have shown that support given to staff is one of night registered nurses’ (RNs’) experiences of the meaning of caring. This support, that community RNs display for staff in night-time care, is sparsely described. Methods  All community night-duty nurses in a medium-sized municipal in Sweden participated in the present study. Thematic content analysis was used to analyse data from observations. Results  The support given by RNs to staff is described using three themes: (1) a conditional supporting stance, (2) preparing propitious conditions for caring and (3) confidence in the abilities of individual staff members and adaptation to their individual needs. The results reveal that RNs consider support to staff in terms of nursing leadership. Conclusions  Out of ‘concern for the staff’ the RNs try to be there for them, which corresponds to nursing leadership. Such concern also arises from the RNs’ awareness that by giving support to staff this affects the staffs’ caring for older people.Implications for nursing management  The current municipal social care organization of community nursing of older people in which RNs have extensive responsibilities with insufficient control, is a working condition with a risk for decreased quality of care and a high risk for work-related stress syndrome. The aim of the present study was to examine the support night nurses give to staff in community night nursing. • How Sustainability Leaders Communicate Corporate Activities of Sustainable Development.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management. - : Wiley. - 1535-3958 .- 1535-3966. ; 20:4, s. 193-204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the corporate quest for sustainable development, production- and product-related environmental impacts of a company can form a basis for de fining the corporate environmental profile, as well as for de fining environmental leaders. Awareness of the production- and productrelated dimensions of the environmental profile varied among companies. This paper studied descriptions and reporting of environmental issues among 19 companies ranked as Global Supersector Leaders in 2009/2010 by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The results show that all of these companies are aware of production- and product-related environmental aspects. There are also examples, both as headings on websites and as sections in sustainability reports, where companies structure their environmental initiatives separately with respect to production (or their own operations) and the product. The paper ends with a proposed modelof corporate environmental profile.

  • Intervjuer
  • 2018. - 1
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Five-year-old Children's Tuning-in and Negotiation Staregies in an Immunization Situation
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Qualitative Health Research. - : SAGE. - 1049-7323 .- 1552-7557. ; 21:6, s. 818-829
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we have explored 5-year-old children's expressions when they as actors took part in an immunization situation in the Primary Child Health Care (PCHC) service in Sweden. Although children's health and development are the main concern in the PCHC service, their perspectives in such a setting have not been explored fully. To capture children's perspectives we used a hermeneutic design and video observations. The findings revealed children as competent and active participants, contributing to the construction of the PCHC situation in mutuality with the nurse and the parent. The conceptualization of children's expressions and actions revealed how they influenced and dealt with a PCHC situation by using strategies of tuning-in, affirmative negotiation, and delaying negotiation. Understanding children's actions will assist nurses to act with sensitivity when they encounter and support children.

  • Value Sinks : A Process Theory of Corruption Risk during Complex Organizing
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nonlinear Dynamics, Psychology, and Life Sciences. - : NLM (Medline). - 1090-0578 .- 1573-6652. ; 27:3, s. 319-350
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Theories and studies of corruption typically focus on individual ethics and agency problems in organizations. In this paper, we use concepts from complexity science to propose a process theory that describes how corruption risk emerges from conditions of uncertainty that are intrinsic in social systems and social interactions. We posit that our theory is valid across multiple levels of scale in social systems. We theorize that corruption involves dynamics that emerge when agents in a system take actions that exploit disequilibrium conditions of uncertainty and ethical ambiguity. Further, systemic corruption emerges when agent interactions are amplified locally in ways that create a hidden value sink which we define as a structure that extracts, or 'drains,' resources from the system for the exclusive use of certain agents. For those participating in corruption, the presence of a value sink reduces local uncertainties about access to resources. This dynamic can attract others to join the value sink, allowing it to persist and grow as a dynamical system attractor, eventually challenging broader norms. We close by identifying four distinct types of corruption risk and suggest policy interventions to manage them. Finally, we discuss ways in which our theoretical approach could motivate future research.

  • Why one goes to school : what school means to young people entering foster care
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Child & Family Social Work. - : Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Inc.. - 1356-7500 .- 1365-2206. ; 16:1, s. 43-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this interpretative childhood study of 17 boys and girls 13 – 16 years old placed in foster families, the experiences and attitudes towards school are explored. The importance of school as an arena for both learning and socialization is emphasized. Data were collected through interviews, network maps, and text answers via mobile phone (‘beepers’). Their educational improvement was based on their understanding of scholastic achievement as meaningful for their future, stability in daily routines, and the involvement and support of family, peers, and teachers. Access to peers at school is important, and group activities facilitate this. Because of their background, foster youth can also be exposed to bullying from peers. Both learning and socialization at school affect their self-esteem.

  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong? Reflections on Potential Challenges of Open Innovation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Debating Innovation. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan Cham. - 9783031166662 ; , s. 241-260
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Open innovation (OI) has attracted great interest from both scholars and practitioners during the past decades. While the benefits of OI have been examined a lot, the potential challenges of OI have been less noted and studied. This book chapter addresses potential OI challenges in (1) value creation based on knowledge; (2) innovation appropriability and appropriation; and (3) innovation network orchestration. It introduces several “what-if” considerations and discusses some scenarios where open innovation could go wrong. The chapter reminds that open innovation has both the valuable bright side, and the challenging dark side. By recognizing and embracing the challenges, risks, and costs, innovators may be able to find a balance and turn the challenges into opportunities.

  • Democratic revolutions as institutional innovation diffusion : rapid adoption and survival of democracy
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Technological forecasting & social change. - New York : Elsevier BV. - 0040-1625 .- 1873-5509. ; 80:8, s. 1546-1556
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent ‘democratic revolutions’ in Islamic countries call for a re-consideration of transitions to and from democracy. Transitions to democracy have often been considered the outcome of socio-economic modernization and therefore slow and incremental processes. But as a recent study has made clear, in the last century, transitions to democracy have mainly occurred through rapid leaps rather than slow and incremental steps. Here, we therefore apply an innovation and systems perspective and consider transitions to democracy as processes of institutional, and therefore systemic, innovation adoption. We show that transitions to democracy starting before 1900 lasted for an average of 50 years and a median of 56 years, while transitions originating later took an average of 4.6 years and a median of 1.7 years. However, our results indicate that the survival time of democratic regimes is longer in cases where the transition periods have also been longer, suggesting that patience paid in previous democratizations. We identify a critical ‘consolidation-preparing’ transition period of 12 years. Our results also show that in cases where the transitions have not been made directly from autocracy to democracy, there are no main institutional paths towards democracy. Instead, democracy seems reachable from a variety of directions. This is in line with the analogy of diffusion of innovations at the nation systems level, for which assumptions are that potential adopter systems may vary in susceptibility over time. The adoption of the institutions of democracy therefore corresponds to the adoption of a new political communications standard for a nation, in this case the innovation of involving in principle all adult citizens on an equal basis.
