  • Biometrics Applications in e-Health Security : A Preliminary Survey
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Health Information Science. - Cham : Encyclopedia of Global Archaeology/Springer Verlag. - 9783319191553 - 9783319191560 ; , s. 92-103
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Driven by the desires of healthcare authorities to offer better healthcare services at a low cost, electronic Health (e-Health) has revolutionized the healthcare industry. However, while e-Health comes with numerous advantages that improve health services, it still suffers from security and privacy issues in handling health information. E-Health security issues are mainly centered around user authentication, data integrity, data confidentiality, and patient privacy protection. Biometrics technology addresses the above security problems by providing reliable and secure user authentication compared to the traditional approaches. This study explores the security and privacy issues in e-Health, and offers a comprehensive overview of biometrics technology applications in addressing the e-Health security challenges. The paper concludes that biometrics technology has considerable opportunities for application in e-Health due to its ability to provide reliable security solutions. Although, additional issues like system complexity, processing time, and patient privacy related to the use of biometrics should be taken into consideration.

  • Toward online education for fingerprint recognition : A proof-of-concept web platform
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Information Security Journal. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1939-3555 .- 1939-3547. ; 26:4, s. 186-197
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent advances in information and communication technology (ICT) have pushed education systems into the online paradigm. Although fingerprint recognition has received considerable attention from researchers, the concept of creating online or distance education systems for fingerprint recognition systems is a valid problem that requires further investigation. This article addresses the problem and presents a web platform for online education of a fingerprint recognition system. This study focused on the technical design and implementation of the web platform solely as a proof of concept to illustrate the possibility of creating distance education for fingerprint recognition. The developed platform offers students a way to gain knowledge about the full range of fingerprint recognition system technology. The significance of using a web platform stems from the need to supplement students’ theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on experience with information security in general and with fingerprint recognition in particular. Demonstrations such as fingerprint image enhancement and fingerprint feature extraction are included in the current platform prototype. Plots of fingerprint recognition performance curves such as false match rate (FMR) and false non-match rate (FNMR) as functions of the matching threshold curve, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the detection error trade-off (DET) curve are plotted as part of the platform. From a technical viewpoint, the platform was successfully implemented; however, its educational impact needs further evaluation.

  • Association rule mining for job seekers' profiles based on personality traits and Facebook usage
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Business Information Systems. - : InderScience Publishers. - 1746-0972 .- 1746-0980. ; 40:3, s. 299-326
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Personality traits play a significant role in many organisational parameters, such as job satisfaction, performance, employability, and leadership for employers. One of the major social networks, the unemployed derives satisfaction from is Facebook. The focus of this article is to introduce association rule mining and demonstrate how it may be applied by employers to unravel the characteristic profiles of the unemployed Facebook users in the recruitment process by employers, for example, recruitment of public relations officers, marketers, and advertisers. Data for this study comprised 3,000 unemployed Facebook users in Nigeria. This study employs association rule mining for mining hidden but interesting and unusual relationships among unemployed Facebook users. The fundamental finding of this study is that employers of labour can adopt association rule mining to unravel job relevant attributes suitable for specific organisational tasks by examining Facebook activities of potential employees. Other managerial and theoretical implications are discussed.

  • Presenting artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning studies to clinicians and healthcare stakeholders : an introductory reference with a guideline and a Clinical AI Research (CAIR) checklist proposal
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Acta Orthopaedica. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1745-3674 .- 1745-3682. ; 92:5, s. 513-525
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and purpose - Artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning (DL), and machine learning (ML) have become common research fields in orthopedics and medicine in general. Engineers perform much of the work. While they gear the results towards healthcare professionals, the difference in competencies and goals creates challenges for collaboration and knowledge exchange. We aim to provide clinicians with a context and understanding of AI research by facilitating communication between creators, researchers, clinicians, and readers of medical AI and ML research. Methods and results - We present the common tasks, considerations, and pitfalls (both methodological and ethical) that clinicians will encounter in AI research. We discuss the following topics: labeling, missing data, training, testing, and overfitting. Common performance and outcome measures for various AI and ML tasks are presented, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, Dice score, the area under the curve, and ROC curves. We also discuss ethical considerations in terms of privacy, fairness, autonomy, safety, responsibility, and liability regarding data collecting or sharing. Interpretation - We have developed guidelines for reporting medical AI research to clinicians in the run-up to a broader consensus process. The proposed guidelines consist of a Clinical Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR) checklist and specific performance metrics guidelines to present and evaluate research using AI components. Researchers, engineers, clinicians, and other stakeholders can use these proposal guidelines and the CAIR checklist to read, present, and evaluate AI research geared towards a healthcare setting.

  • A Contextual Framework for Computerized Information Systems. An exploratory study of computerized information systems in nine manufacturing organizations with regard to technological and environmental factors
  • 1982
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Research within contingency theory recognizes and postulates the relevance of contextual factors to the design of organizations. Thus organizations are dependent on the environments in which they operate and on the technologies they utilize. Organizations therefore need to process information about their environments and technologies. Information systems, including computerized information sytems, play an important part in organizations and the reltionships between computerzed information systems and organizational context need to be considered. In this study it is hypothesized that differences in the charactristics of computerizedinformation systems in different organizations can to some extent be explained by differences in these organizational contexts. A major distinction is made between content-oriented and generic classification models of computerized information systems. A model for describing generic characteristics of computerized information systems is suggested. This model proposes that the characteristics of a computerized information systems can be classified on the one hand in terms of time-orientation and complexity, and on the other hand in terms of data-base, reports or processing. In the empirical part of the study the model porposed i illustrated. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews on technology, environment and computerized information systems for production control in nine large manufacturing organizations. The results are formulated as detailed hypotheses, which are consistent with the original, general hypothesis.

  • Design Approaches: A Comparative Study of Information System Design and Architectural Design
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Computer Journal. - 0010-4620. ; 34:3, s. 215-224
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper two approaches to design are compared, namely those proposed by Langefors and Alexander. The Langeforsian approach aims to introduce effective methods for information system design and to utilise the potential of computers and information technology in controlling organisations and improving their performance. The aim of Alexanders's approach is to improve architectural design by bridging the gap between designer and users. Both approaches have given important contributions to design in their fields. In both approaches graphs and matrices are important tools. Also, procedures for finding subsystems and components are put forward in both approaches, and the process of design subdivided. The two approaches are different with regard to requirements definitions, in the Langeforsian approach goals are crucial, while misfits are focussed in Alexanders's approach. The notions of goals and misfits are examined. Finally, systems-fit approaches to information system design are discussed.

  • Introduktion till Systemalgebra (3:e uppl)
  • 1974
