  • Studying Norms and Social Change in a Digital Age: Identifying and Understanding a Multidimensional Gap Problem
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Social and Legal Norms: Towards a Socio-legal Understanding of Normativity. - London : Routledge. - 9781409453437 - 9780367601225 - 9781315609416 ; , s. 309-330
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fact that the debate concerning copyright in a digital society has been both intense and filled with polemic conflicts ever since the late 1990s makes it clear that it is a most complicated issue to solve, or even grasp. Basically, both the legal and societal discussion and development are explicitly dependent on a greater understanding of the on-going processes surrounding copyright. This presents a well-suited point of departure for research such as the one conducted within the Cybernorms research group – both in terms of providing valuable insights into the field of sociology of law when it comes to understanding how to relate to the framework provided by digitalization in general and the Internet in particular, and in terms of providing more accurate knowledge and toolsets to legislators in related fields.

  • Co-Operative Method Development revisited
  • 2005
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the last five years, we applied a research approach we call 'Co-operative Method Development' formulated on first experience with empirical research focusing especially on the social side of software engineering. This position paper summarizes the experiences and discusses the improvement and further development of this research approach based on our experiences in different research projects in co-operation with industrial partners.

  • Cooperative method development : Combining qualitative empirical research with method, techniqueand process improvement
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Empirical Software Engineering. - : Springer Netherlands. - 1382-3256 .- 1573-7616. ; 13:3, s. 231-260
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of methods tools and process improvements is best to be based on the understanding of the development practice to be supported. Qualitative research has been proposed as a method for understanding the social and cooperative aspects of software development. However, qualitative research is not easily combined with the improvement orientation of an engineering discipline. During the last 6 years, we have applied an approach we call ‘cooperative method development’, which combines qualitative social science fieldwork, with problem-oriented method, technique and process improvement. The action research based approach focusing on shop floor software development practices allows an understanding of how contextual contingencies influence the deployment and applicability of methods, processes and techniques. This article summarizes the experiences and discusses the further development of this approach based on several research projects in cooperation with industrial partners.

  • Talking Design : Co-Construction and Use of Representations in Software Development
  • 1999
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software development differs from other design work insofar as the object to be designed is not visible. Representations play an important role. Even as they only describe aspects of the later software, they mediate the common design work. Software engineering literature focuses on persistent representations, documents, diagrams, mock-ups, or similar things. Our article puts 'talking design', where the software is represented in utterances, sounds, and enactment, in the centre. With the help of concepts from the CSCW discourse, we conceptualise what is happening here; the collaborative object for the design talk is not given, it has to be collectively constructed. Software development can be regarded as routine co-construction. In our case the protocol of that design meeting seemed to serve as a reminder for the participants rather than as in itself representing the design decided upon. The design meeting, we focus in this article, was part of a distributed software development project, with a larger project situated in Ronneby, Sweden and a smaller one in Oulu, Finland. If important parts of design are collectively constructed during such meetings, what does that imply for co-operation, co-ordination and division of labour in software development projects? How can a common practice be developed among distributed work groups?

  • VoiceBack : Design of artificial intelligence-driven voice-based feedback system for customer-agency communication in online travel services
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Information (Switzerland). - : MDPI Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute. - 2078-2489. ; 15:8, s. 1-22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Online travel booking has become increasingly popular; however, most travel websites do not yet offer voice interaction. This study introduces VoiceBack, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven voice-based feedback system conceptualized to support both customers and online travel agencies during the booking process. It proposes a theoretically and empirically underpinned design concept that involves a voice user interface (VUI) for customer feedback. This feedback, collected by an AI agent, is analyzed and converted into actionable statistics, which are then presented to online travel agencies through a visual interface. The interface is designed to highlight problem areas and usability issues during the booking process. This study contributes to the field of human-centered AI, by offering insight into the complex process of designing and integrating voice, emotion, and feedback within user interfaces. This integrated approach can enrich the user experience of customers when booking travel online, and pave theway for more intuitive and responsive interaction designs in the future.

  • Artificial intelligence practices in higher education using Bloom's digital taxonomy
  • 2024
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained attention as one of the emerging fields in educational technology. The growing body of AI research has focused primarily on technological perspectives and less focus has been given to facilitate the development of AI-driven practices in higher education. In this article, we explore and provide insights together with practical examples into how AI through flexible adaptation could be integrated as practices in higher education using Bloom’s digital taxonomy as an educational model. The resulting operationalization is presented in the form of six practices that provide a basis for discussing how AI-powered innovations can be used in higher education.

  • Design av AI-drivna praktiker för högre utbildning
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Högskolepedagogisk debatt. - : Kristianstad University Press. - 2000-9216. ; 2024:1, s. 11-19

  • Learning by coding : A sociocultural approach to teaching web development in higher education
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Education and Information Technologies. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1360-2357 .- 1573-7608. ; 25:3, s. 1759-1783
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As information technology continues to evolve rapidly in society, coding skills become increasingly essential to develop. The purpose of this article is to examine differences between the learner-centered and sociocultural approaches when teaching and learning coding in higher education. A quasi-experiment was applied over six academic semesters evaluating the mentioned approaches in terms of students' explicit attitudes, grades, and course evaluations. The findings indicated that the sociocultural approach may be a viable alternative to the learner-centered approach. More specifically, students indicated a preference for the sociocultural approach over the learner-centered approach, a greater number of students who passed the courses were educated via the sociocultural approach, and overall satisfaction was significantly higher for this approach as well. While the sociocultural approach has demonstrated to be advantageous, its integration in courses must concurrently be carefully balanced against constraints that teachers continuously experience in higher education, such as time and resources, which presents a challenge to the design of courses and to academia at large.
