• Old School vs. New School : Comparing Transition-Based Parsers with and without Neural Network Enhancement
• 2017
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 15th Treebanks and Linguistic Theories Workshop (TLT). ; , s. 99-110
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, we attempt a comparison between "new school" transition-based parsers that use neural networks and their classical "old school" coun-terpart. We carry out experiments on treebanks from the Universal Depen-dencies project. To facilitate the comparison and analysis of results, we onlywork on a subset of those treebanks. However, we carefully select this sub-set in the hope to have results that are representative for the whole set oftreebanks. We select two parsers that are hopefully representative of the twoschools; MaltParser and UDPipe and we look at the impact of training sizeon the two models. We hypothesize that neural network enhanced modelshave a steeper learning curve with increased training size. We observe, how-ever, that, contrary to expectations, neural network enhanced models needonly a small amount of training data to outperform the classical models butthe learning curves of both models increase at a similar pace after that. Wecarry out an error analysis on the development sets parsed by the two sys-tems and observe that overall MaltParser suffers more than UDPipe fromlonger dependencies. We observe that MaltParser is only marginally betterthan UDPipe on a restricted set of short dependencies.

• Old-school modernism? On the cinema of Roy Andersson
• 2017
• Ingår i: Journal of Scandinavian Cinema. - : Intellect. - 2042-7891. ; 7:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Too little attention has been paid to the aesthetic and cultural contexts of the cinema of Roy Andersson. Arguing that his filmmaking is informed by a high-modernist sensibility, I wish to draw attention to how its style and themes are tied to a vital, ‘old school’ exploration of the essentials of the human condition.

• Prevalence and associated factors for stunting among 6-12 years old school age children from rural community of Humbo district, Southern Ethiopia
• 2018
• Ingår i: BMC Public Health. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2458. ; 18
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Background: Stunting is one of the most serious and challenging public health problems in Ethiopia, which constitute a significant obstacle to achieving better child health outcomes. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with stunting among 6-12 years old children in Humbo district, Southern Ethiopia. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted among 633 children 6-12 years old living in Humbo district, Southern Ethiopia, from March to April, 2015. A multistage cluster sampling technique was used to select participants from households in eight Villages in the study area. Height was measured using standard methods and height for age Z-score was computed to assess stunting. EPI info version 3.5.4 was used for data entry, whereas Anthroplus software and SPSS version 20.0 were used for computation of height for age Z-scores and statistical analyses respectively. Simple and multiple logistic regression analyses were used to examine factors associated with stunting in the study sample, using 95% confidence limits (statistical significance set at p < 0.050). Results: Prevalence of stunting was 57%, about, 3.5% were severely stunted, 27.3% moderately stunted and 26.4% mildly stunted, and the mean (SD) was -1.1 (+/- 1.2). About 7 (1.1%) boys and 15 (2.4%) girls were severely stunted. Age groups 10-12 years had significantly higher rate of stunting than others. Age (AOR = 1.7, 95% CI = 1.1-2.6), big family size (AOR = 4.6, 95% CI = 2.2-9.5) and field disposal of wastes (AOR = 2.7, 95% CI = 1.2-5.8) were factors significantly associated with stunting. Conclusion: This study exposed high rate of stunting among school age children. Stunting remains a noticeable attribute of rural school age children. Findings suggest the need to implement evidence-based school-aged rural children nutrition policy and strategies as well as need for intervention to improve domestic waste management system in the rural community.

• An Empathic Robotic Tutor in a Map Application
• 2015
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2015 international conference on autonomous agents & multiagent systems (AAMAS'15). - New York : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450334136 ; , s. 1923-1924
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this demonstration, we describe a scenario developed in the EMOTE project [2]. The overall goal of the EMOTE project is to develop an empathic robot tutor for 11-13 year old school students in an educational setting. The pedagogical domain we demonstrate here is to assist students in learning and testing their map-reading skills typically learned as part of the geography curriculum in schools. We demonstrate this scenario with a NAO robot interacting with the students whilst performing map-reading tasks in the form of a game on a touch-screen device.

• Identity formations as mathematical learners in the context of transition
• 2018
• Ingår i: Nordisk matematikkdidaktikk, NOMAD. - : Nationellt centrum för matematikutbildning (NCM). - 1104-2176. ; 23:3-4, s. 39-59
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This paper explores the relation between discourses and identity formations as mathematical learners in the context of transition. The data consists of an interview with two 16 years old immigrant girls who were re-allocated when their school in a multicultural and socio-economically disadvantaged area in Sweden was closed. The girls showed dynamic and unstable identities by drawing on different discourses. Social realtional discourses more than mathematical pedagogical discorses, governed their actions as learners of mathematics. Enabling identities as noisy un-engaged but able students in the old school, and as engaged and accepted, but also as strangers, in the new school.

• Institutional discrimination: Stereotypes and social reproduction of “class” in the Swedish upper-secondary school
• 2015
• Ingår i: Social Psychology of Education. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1381-2890 .- 1573-1928. ; 18:4
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This article discusses the effects of separating 15–16 years-old school students in isolated academic and practical study programs in upper-secondary education. It is based on an investigation of the social identities developed by and about youth learners in these circumstances. In particular we examine the creation of identity positions by youth on academic programs regarding themselves and people like them (in-group characteristics) on the one hand and for other kinds of students on the other, on vocational programs. These constructions are analyzed as a product of self-categorization theory. The investigation involved 224 students from upper-secondary school academic programs. Our results showed that the academic program students expressed strong stereotypes with extremely negative potentials in relation to future social solidarity and equity. On the basis of the findings we strongly recommend introducing mixed classes in upper-secondary school, where students from academic and vocational programs take the same courses in general subjects as a way of reducing stereotypes and prejudice.

• Assessing the Construct Validity and Reliability of School Health Records of the ‘Health Dialogue Questionnaire,’ in 7th Grade in Compulsory School
• 2015
• Ingår i: MOJ Public Health. - : MedCrave Group, LLC. - 2379-6383. ; 2:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Background: The aim for this study was to assess the construct validity and reliability of the Health Dialogue Questionnaire (HDQ), 7th grade in compulsory school through comparison of the HDQ, with Paediatric Quality Of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM), Local monitoring of youth policy questionnaire (LUPP®) and Health behaviour in Swedish school-aged children (HBSC).Design and methods: A sample was created from HDQ (n= 2008), PedsQLTM (n=477), LUPP (n=2648), HBSC, (n=1500) andan exploratory factor analysis was performed in order to evaluate the construct validity of HDQ of the school children´s health in school settings. Results: The results supported the HDQ as a valid 24 items factorial model, for girls a five factorial model and for boys a four factorial model for school children aged 13 years old (grade 7). The girls' model explained 63 % of the variance, while the boys' model explained 58 % of the variance. A majority of the questions showed an agreeable concurrent and discriminant validity. Conclusions: The HDQ questionnaire is a valid instrument for measuring 13-year-old school children's self-reported-health.Keywords: Adolescents; Construct Validity; Factor Analysis; Health Dialogue Questionnaire; Health Promotion

• Are the school version of the assessment of motor and process skills measures valid for German-speaking children?
• 2019
• Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 26:2, s. 149-155
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Background: There are no validated assessment tools for evaluating quality of schoolwork task performance of children living in German-speaking Europe (GSE).Objective: To determine whether the international age-normative means of the School Version of the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (School AMPS) are valid for use in GSE.Methods: The participants were 159 typically-developing children, 3-12 years, from GSE. We examined the proportions of School AMPS measures falling within +/- 2 standard deviation (SD) of the international age-normative means, and evaluated for significant group differences (p<0.05) in mean School AMPS measures between the GSE sample and the international age-normative sample using one-sample Z tests. When significant mean differences were found, we evaluated if the differences were clinically meaningful. Results: At least 95% of the GSE School AMPS measures fell within +/- 2 SD of the international age-normative means for the School AMPS. The only significant mean differences were for 6(p < 0.01) and 8-year-olds (p = 0.02), and only the 6-year-old school process mean difference was clinically meaningful. Conclusions: Because the only identified clinically meaningful difference was associated with likely scoring error of one rater, the international age-normative means of the School AMPS appear to be valid for use with children in GSE.

• Psychometric Properties of the Original and Shortened Version of the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory among Chinese Adolescents
• 2017
• Ingår i: Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioral Assessment. - : Springer. - 0882-2689 .- 1573-3505. ; 39:4, s. 620-634
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory (YPI) and its short version (YPI-S) in a sample of 2081 Chinese 11- to 19-year-old school-attending youth (M (age) = 14.27, SD = 1.62). Confirmatory factor analyses showed that a bifactor model best fit the data at the subscale level for the YPI and at the item level for the YPI-S. The internal consistency of the YPI and YPI-S scores ranged from marginal to good. Measurement invariance testing revealed that the bifactor model of the YPI-S was equivalent across gender, while the bifactor model of the YPI showed moderate differences between boys and girls. Both the YPI and YPI-S total and factor scores were positively related to Antisocial Process Screening Device scores and Rule-Breaking and Aggressive behavior, though these relations were most often stronger for the YPI scores. In conclusion, the Chinese-language versions of the YPI and YPI-S hold promise as assessment tools to measure psychopathic traits in Chinese adolescents but are not without limitations. Whereas the YPI-S is more time-effective and yields scores that are more internally consistent than the YPI, the YPI seems to outperform the YPI-S in terms of convergent and criterion validity.

• History as edutainment - Learning at a history theme park
• 2019
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• When it comes to children’s relation to history, the mix of entertainment and education – edutainment – is an ever-growing trend, blurring the distinction between for example schools, museums and various theme parks. Edutainment establishments attracts growing numbers of children, families and schools every year. The edutainment business is said to offer new methods and different ways of spreading knowledge and tries to introduce novel, surprising approaches to attract visitors. Often the parks use hands-on-pedagogy and visitors get to experience and try features first-handed. The establishments thus expect an active, explorative and interested visitor. Then again, at times it is questioned what visitors actually learn from edutainment institutions, and if the entertainment does not more or less dominate a visit to these places. Research in the field is still scarce, particularly when it comes to studies where researchers follows visitors during their visits. This paper report on a study of 10–12-year-old school children’s visit to High Chaparral a western theme park in Sweden with between 175 000-180 000 visitors every year, a theme park distributing an historical journey back to the 1870s America. In the paper we investigate how the children take on different features and how they through their actions enacts the park. Using material from participant observations during the children’s visits to the park we specifically analyze how the children react to the parks use of history and the mix of entertainment and education at the park. The paper thus highlights the visiting children’s use of history and their contribution in the very learning experience.
