• Old School vs. New School : Comparing Transition-Based Parsers with and without Neural Network Enhancement
• 2017
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 15th Treebanks and Linguistic Theories Workshop (TLT). ; , s. 99-110
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, we attempt a comparison between "new school" transition-based parsers that use neural networks and their classical "old school" coun-terpart. We carry out experiments on treebanks from the Universal Depen-dencies project. To facilitate the comparison and analysis of results, we onlywork on a subset of those treebanks. However, we carefully select this sub-set in the hope to have results that are representative for the whole set oftreebanks. We select two parsers that are hopefully representative of the twoschools; MaltParser and UDPipe and we look at the impact of training sizeon the two models. We hypothesize that neural network enhanced modelshave a steeper learning curve with increased training size. We observe, how-ever, that, contrary to expectations, neural network enhanced models needonly a small amount of training data to outperform the classical models butthe learning curves of both models increase at a similar pace after that. Wecarry out an error analysis on the development sets parsed by the two sys-tems and observe that overall MaltParser suffers more than UDPipe fromlonger dependencies. We observe that MaltParser is only marginally betterthan UDPipe on a restricted set of short dependencies.

• Old-school modernism? On the cinema of Roy Andersson
• 2017
• Ingår i: Journal of Scandinavian Cinema. - : Intellect. - 2042-7891. ; 7:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Too little attention has been paid to the aesthetic and cultural contexts of the cinema of Roy Andersson. Arguing that his filmmaking is informed by a high-modernist sensibility, I wish to draw attention to how its style and themes are tied to a vital, ‘old school’ exploration of the essentials of the human condition.

• History as edutainment - Learning at a history theme park
• 2019
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• When it comes to children’s relation to history, the mix of entertainment and education – edutainment – is an ever-growing trend, blurring the distinction between for example schools, museums and various theme parks. Edutainment establishments attracts growing numbers of children, families and schools every year. The edutainment business is said to offer new methods and different ways of spreading knowledge and tries to introduce novel, surprising approaches to attract visitors. Often the parks use hands-on-pedagogy and visitors get to experience and try features first-handed. The establishments thus expect an active, explorative and interested visitor. Then again, at times it is questioned what visitors actually learn from edutainment institutions, and if the entertainment does not more or less dominate a visit to these places. Research in the field is still scarce, particularly when it comes to studies where researchers follows visitors during their visits. This paper report on a study of 10–12-year-old school children’s visit to High Chaparral a western theme park in Sweden with between 175 000-180 000 visitors every year, a theme park distributing an historical journey back to the 1870s America. In the paper we investigate how the children take on different features and how they through their actions enacts the park. Using material from participant observations during the children’s visits to the park we specifically analyze how the children react to the parks use of history and the mix of entertainment and education at the park. The paper thus highlights the visiting children’s use of history and their contribution in the very learning experience.

• World christianity as post-colonialising of theology
• 2020
• Ingår i: Contextual Theology : Skills and Practices of Liberating Faith - Skills and Practices of Liberating Faith. - London : Routledge. - 9780367365301 - 9781000217261 ; , s. 221-237
• Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this chapter, the author argues that the old-school confessional and ethnocentric theology has no place in today’s Western secular academia. He focuses on the academic discipline under the name “theology”. Mission studies has represented a widening of the horizon in theology in the sense that through it, non-Western cultures and religions have gradually been introduced into the theological agenda, resulting in contextual theologies where the interaction between faith and culture is lifted into focus. The renewal needed for theology in Western academia can use World Christianity as its model. What is done in the study of World Christianity needs thus to become a standard approach in theology. Theology can no longer afford to externalise the task of cultural plurality to contextual theologies, mission studies, or World Christianity, but the multiple voices in terms of cultures and subcultures need to be recognised throughout.

• The pit : landscape scars as potential cultural tools
• 2013
• Ingår i: International Journal of Heritage Studies (IJHS). - : Informa UK Limited. - 1352-7258 .- 1470-3610. ; 19:7, s. 692-708
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• A huge and continuously growing pit is about to divide the Swedish mining town of Malmberget into two halves. What once was the town centre is now a 200 metres deep hole, and private homes and key buildings like the old school and the church have had to be demolished or moved. The pit is a human imposed landscape scar' epitomising the town's lost golden age of mining, its present situation of decline and uncertain future prospects - despite a recent recovery in the mining industry. Although the pit is decisively present in the local community, it is not articulated as significant, especially not from a heritage perspective. Why is this so? In this article, we examine the pit as a potential cultural tool for heritage processes, and find that it is indeed used by individuals in this respect, but not in collective memorialisation. We conclude that landscape scars definitely can constitute critical cultural tools, although they may not always need to be labelled as belonging to an authorized heritage discourse'. Instead, the potential of the landscape scar is to enhance the amount and recognition of shared memories in the local community.

• Romantik och förnuft : V.F. Palmblads förlag 1810-1830
• 2000
• Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• The subject of this thesis is V.F. Palmblad's publishing house during the years of 1810-1830 and particularlyits role in the breakthrough of literary romanticism. Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of "field" and "habitus" areused in the dissertation. The Palmblad academic printing house in Uppsala and its printed production every fifth year from 1810to 1830 is analysed, as is the printed production from the publishing house each of those years. The emer-genceof Palmblad & C. is investigated and the concept of "network" is introduced. The sale of publications from Palmblad & C. and its economic strategy is investigated. There is also ananalysis of how the group of romanticists termed "fosforists" could accumulate social capital by means of thepublishing house. Bourdieu's concept of habitus is used to indicate the authors' view of themselves and external apparitions.Palmblad acted as a creator and promotor of a certain image of his authors. Some discussion is devoted tofemale romantic authors: what their positions were, how male colleagues viewed them and female influen-ces.There is a presentation of how and why publications were chosen. A large part of the thesis is devoted toanalyses of Palmblad & C. - especially Palmblad and the poet Atterbom - as co-productive in terms of otherromantic authors' texts and reviews (for instance Lorenzo Hammarsköld, Euphrosyne and Samuel Hed-born).Palmblad's influence on Atterbom is also touched upon. A part of the dissertation deals with the distribution of publications from Palmblad & C., includingdiscussions of conditions for transportation, Palmblad's bookshop, commission agents, contacts withforeign booksellers and publishers and marketing. Finally, the readers and audiences of publications from Palmblad & C. are dealt with. There is an attemptto define the target groups of Palmblad & C. Subscription lists from some of the publications from Palm-blad& C. are analysed. The main result is that Palmblad & C. functioned as a nursery for not yet established romantic poets. The"fosforists'" had fought against the view of literature of the previous generation (the "Old school"). The victo-riousoutcome of the romanticists depended on Palmblad & C. as the "fosforists" to a large extent were pub-lishedby this publishing house - which was dependent on the bookmarket at the time. The network offriends, colleagues and sympathisers tied to the publishing house compensated for the poor infrastructurewithin the bookmarket. This network also influenced decisions of what to publish or not. The habitus of the"fosforists" developed in the manner it did thanks to Palmblad & C., which guaranteed their existence as(published) authors. The battle was fought on the boundaries between the literary field and the academicfield. It is also emphasised that literary salons and the romantic poems that were sung were important to thespread of romantic literature published by Palmblad & C.

• Trends and Issues that are Changing Sport and Physical Education: Social Scientific Perspectives
• 2018
• Ingår i: Svensk Beteendevetenskaplig Idrottsforsknings konferens (SVEBI).
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Introduktion/Introduction In line with the conference theme of ‘Trends and issues that are changing sport and physical education: Social scientific perspectives’, this thematic session focuses on a trend in sports coaching – scientisation and technologisation of training. Syfte & teoretisk ram/Aim and theoretical framework The aim of this thematic session is to critically consider how the scientisation and technologisation of training affects athletes, athlete learning and coaches, and through this, consider needs for coaching research and coach education. Metod/Method The session brings together three presentations. First, Daniel Svensson historicises the scientisation of training in Sweden. Second, Tor Söderström explores what elite athletes think about physiological tests and how useful they find them to be. Third, Natalie Barker-Ruchti presents data of training science developments at one academic institution. In conclusion of the session, recommendations for research and education are presented. Resultat/Results Physiological knowledge influences Swedish athletes’ training since the 1940s. With the establishment of national sports high schools in 1971, Sweden has created an infrastructure for scientific tests and methods at the (sub-)elite level of sport. In recent years, sport science has continued to develop technologies to test athletes (e.g., match analysis, movement analysis, genetic testing) and at present, these tests experience a boom. Sports organisations, coaches, coaching students, athletes, and parents are increasingly eager to learn about and adopt its tests. Such tests, however, predominantly serve as checkpoints or single indicator of fitness, and thus for most athletes, have little or no importance with respect to how they evaluate and plan their training. Diskussion och slutsatser/Discussion and conclusions Physiological tests and scientifically based training methods are today mainstream. Coaches who do not understand or employ such methods may be sidelined as ‘old school’. The application of physiological tests and performance analysis methods has, however, a number of perils. First, the history of scientisation demonstrates that not all athletes and coaches accept scientific knowledge, and instead favor experiential methods. This dilemma between old and new risks creating conflict between stakeholders. Second, ethical questions problematise the appropriateness of testing young athletes. The argument here is that performance and genetic testing violates the child athlete’s right to an open sport experience and future. Third, the scientisation and its recent technological advancements have received very little critical scientific reflection. The objectification of athletes, testing as control mechanisms, and the lack of athlete learning in response, represent key concerns. Fourth, researchers from training science disciplines and coaching have spent little time discussing the integration of training science and coaching pedagogy. Coach education programs thus continue to cover its sciences individually, which may make it difficult for coaches to understand how they can implement training science in pedagogical ways. Our recommendations for training and coaching researchers, and education providers are to (a) consider and understand the perils of physiological tests and scientifically based training methods, and experiential coaching respectively; (b) seek discussion to develop training science pedagogy; and (c) develop coach education materials to prepare coaches to use training science to benefit athlete performance and education.
