  • The accounting education triangle and its implications for future research
  • 2023
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The rise of the professional status of accountants and auditors has brought expansive growth and embedded privilege into the modern accounting profession. However, the employers’ demand for accounting graduates has not increased at the same pace, indicating decreasing career relevance of accounting education in universities and colleges. In this paper, we propose a conceptual model - the accounting education triangle - which highlights the different expectations among the three essential stakeholders in accounting education, namely, educators, employers, and graduates. By examining the previous literature and relevant frameworks, we document specific expectation gaps within the model and provide value propositions and their implications for future research.

  • Äktenskap i Theorin : en lundensisk kärleksskandal från 1878
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Lundensaren : Nyhetsbrev för alumner. ; :32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A town medical officer in Lund, a Danish poet and a paper manufacturer’s daughter living under the same roof – it could be the start to a bad joke, however, it is actually the start of a dramatic love triangle that shook Lund during the second half of the nineteenth century. University archivist Henrik Ullstad writes about a relationship scandal that destroyed families, crushed a promising career, and had repercussions that were felt for many years thereafter.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • You don’t need to snorkel far offthe coast before you find large schools of fish and hear the sounds of snapping shrimp as the wavesbreak on the distant sandy beaches. If you stay in one spot for long enough it’s likely you will notice that you are actually surrounded by a huge amount of marine diversity as more fish come out of their hiding places along with a multitude of different crab species, sponges, starfish and brittle stars, sea cucumbers, clams and jellyfish. But this is no ordinary snorkelling tour on the tropical Great Barrier Reef or in the coral triangle; you are off the coast of Italy, England, or maybe even Iceland, and you are snorkelling across a bed of coralline algae.

  • How isostasy explains continental rifting in East Africa?
  • 2020
  • Konferensbidrag (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The principle of isostasy plays an important role to understand the relation between different geodynamic processes. Although, it is difficult to find an exact method that delivers a complete image of the Earth structure. However, gravimetric methods are alternative to provide images of the interior of the Earth. The Earth’s crust parameters, i.e. crustal depth and crust-mantle density contrast, can reveal adequate information about the solid Earth system such as volcanic activity, earthquake and continental rifting. Hence, in this study, a combine Moho model using seismic and gravity data is determined to investigate the relationship between the isostatic state of the lithosphere and seismic activities in East Africa. Our results show that isostatic equilibrium and compensation states are closely correlated to the seismicity patterns in the study area. For example, several studies suggest that African superplume causes the rift valley, and consequently differences in crustal and mantle densities occur. This paper presents a method to determine the crustal thickness and crust-mantle density contrast and consequently one can observe low-density contrast (about 200 kg/m3 ) and thin crust (about 30 km) near the triple junction plate tectonics in East Africa (Afar Triangle), which confirms the state of overcompensation in the rift valley areas. Furthermore, the density structure of the lithosphere shows a large correlation with the earthquake activity, sub-crustal stress and volcanic distribution across East Africa.

  • Strategic marketing in the hospitality industry : a case study of Scandic hotel chain
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Management Case Studies. - New Delhi : Wiley International.
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This case covers a wide range of situations and circumstances in which strategic marketing decisions were made. This case focuses on a company operating in the hospitality sector (a hotel chain) whose products (accommodations, food and beverages services) constitute a large portion of tourist consumption. The case illuminates what makes Scandic Hotel Chain special and different from its competitors. For example its loyalty programme where members can earn both points and airline kilometres on the same stay. Special attention is devoted to how the case company uses information technology (IT) to identify and differentiate its customers through the relationship ladder in order to sustain a customer centric strategy and develop long lasting relationships with its customers. The domain of this case is strategic management. Strategically, the case company focuses its intentions in a market and developed a variety of products and programmes to realise those intentions. Essentially, Scandic Hotel Chain operates within a given environment; its marketing strategy deals with the interplay of three forces, known as “the strategic 3 Cs” the customer, the competition and the corporation. Scandic Hotel Chain devised marketing strategies in which it could differentiate itself effectively from its competitors, capitalising on its distinctive strengths to deliver better value to its customers. The case shows that a good strategy is characterised by: a) a clear market definition; b) a good match between corporate strengths and the need and preferences of the market and c) superior performance, relative to the competition. The company put together the strategic 3 Cs to form the marketing triangle. In this regard, marketing strategy is thus an endeavour of the firm to differentiate itself from the competitors using its relatively corporate strengths to better satisfy customer needs, in a given environmental settings. The long-term orientation of this case is demonstrated through among others, its great concern for the environment as environmental changes are more probable in the long run than in the short run. The Scope of the case This case is suitable for use in undergraduate and Post graduate courses such as: Strategic Management/Strategic Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Marketing Management, Services Marketing.

  • Gender Equality and Media Regulation Study : Zimbabwe
  • 2022
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This research has used the triangle approach of assessing content of laws and policies, institutional framework of regulatory bodies and the traditions and practice within media houses and media training institutions. Specifically, research gathered data on media in gender equality laws; gender in media and other laws; national and self-regulatory bodies; and gender policies in media houses, media-based civil society organisations and media training institutions. While Zimbabwe’s legislative and regulatory framework on gender equality is strong on paper, this has not been effectively utilised to inform the content of enacted media laws and policies whose language is generic. This study acknowledges that the implementation of principles around gender equality and women empowerment in general, is low and there is lack of accountability to the constitution including by most of the non-gender regulatory bodies. This has resulted in media policies, structures and content decidedly remaining static or regressing at the expense of women as media workers, as consumers of media products and as citizens. While the media demands constitutional accountability from other stakeholders in socio-economic and political spheres, it has not held itself to those same standards.Weak media regulation around gender issues and content goes against the letter and spirit of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), as well as other continental and international instruments that guarantee freedom of expression and access to information.Recommendations for media development agencies working to advance gender equality and freedom of expression for women and marginalised groups therefore include: a prerequisite to recognise equality and equity as a principle; mainstreaming gender for transformation of media landscape; effective accountability by media to constitutional guarantees; a multi-sectoral approach to facilitating the full enjoyment of rights; equal representation in media decision-making; mandatory gender sensitisation training to transform knowledge, attitudes, and practices in service delivery; development and adoption of a sector wide code of conduct to ensure gender integration in content, structure, and culture; integration of gender as a critical component of media training institutions; ongoing sensitisation for media service providers on how they can articulate issues without perpetuating stereotypes about women and youths; increased financial, material and technical support to those media houses committed to gender integration in practices beyond developing gender policies and gender action plans, and committed to implementation and monitoring and evaluation of accountability to the constitutional benchmarks; and support should include recognition of and awards for gender champions - male and female, to encourage best practices.
