  • Diamond-based dielectric laser acceleration
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 30:1, s. 505-510
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The field of dielectric laser accelerators (DLA) garnered a considerable interest in the past six years as it offers novel opportunities in accelerator science and potentially transformative applications. Currently, the most widespread approach considers silicon-based structures due to their low absorption and high refractive index in the infrared spectral region and the well-developed silicon processing technology. In this paper we investigate a diamond as an alternative to silicon, mainly due to its considerably higher damage threshold. In particular, we find that our diamond grating allows a three times higher acceleration gradient (60 MeV/m) compared to silicon gratings designed for a similar electron energy. Using more complex geometries, GeV/m acceleration gradients are within reach for subrelativistic electrons.

    • In most software development companies the road mapping and requirements prioritization process is a complex process in which product management experiences difficulties in getting timely and accurate customer feedback. The feedback loop from customers is slow and often there is a lack of mechanisms that allow for efficient customer data collection and analysis. As a result, there is the risk that requirements prioritization becomes opinion-based rather than data-driven, and that R&D investments are made without an accurate way of continuously validating whether they correspond to customer needs. We call this phenomenon the 'open loop' problem, referring to the challenges for product management to get accurate and timely feedback from customers. To address this problem, we develop the HYPEX model (Hypothesis Experiment Data-Driven Development) that supports companies in running feature experiments to shorten customer feedback loops. We evaluate the model in three software development companies and observe how feature experiments increase the opportunity for data-driven software development.

  • Ideal equilibria in noncooperative multicriteria games
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Mathematical Methods of Operations Research. - Springer : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-2994 .- 1432-5217. ; 52:1, s. 65-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pareto equilibria in multicriteria games can be computed as the Nash equilibria of scalarized games, obtained by assigning weights to the separate criteria of a player, To analysts, these weights are usually unknown. This paper therefore proposes ideal equilibria, strategy profiles that are robust against unilateral deviations of the players no matter what importance is assigned to the criteria. Existence of ideal equilibria is not guaranteed, but several desirable properties are provided. As opposed to the computation of other solution concepts in noncooperative multicriteria games, thecomputation of the set of ideal equilibria is relatively simple: an exact upper bound for the number of scalarizations is the maximum number of criteria of the players. The ideal equilibrium concept is axiomatized. Moreover, the final section provides a non-trivial class of multicriteria games in which ideal equilibria exist, by establishing a link to the literature on potential games

  • Wounding enhances epidermal tumorigenesis by recruiting hair follicle keratinocytes
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 1091-6490. ; 108:10, s. 4099-4104
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chronic wounds and acute trauma constitute well-established risk factors for development of epithelial-derived skin tumors, although the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are the most common skin cancers displaying a number of features reminiscent of hair follicle (HF)-derived cells and are dependent on deregulated Hedgehog (Hh)/GLI signaling. Here we show, in a mouse model conditionally expressing GLI1 and in a model with homozygous inactivation of Ptch1, mimicking the situation in human BCCs, that the wound environment accelerates the initiation frequency and growth of BCC-like lesions. Lineage tracing reveals that both oncogene activation and wounding induce emigration of keratinocytes residing in the lower bulge and the nonpermanent part of the HFs toward the interfollicular epidermis (IFE). However, only oncogene activation in combination with a wound environment enables the participation of such cells in the initiation of BCC-like lesions at the HF openings and in the IFE. We conclude that, in addition to the direct enhancement of BCC growth, the tumor-promoting effect of the wound environment is due to recruitment of tumor-initiating cells originating from the neighboring HFs, establishing a link between epidermal wounds and skin cancer risk.

  • Current status and challenges of the ammonia escape inhibition technologies in ammonia-based CO2 capture process
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Applied Energy. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0306-2619 .- 1872-9118. ; 230, s. 734-749
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • CO2 capture using ammonia solvent is an alternative to the conventional amine-based CO2 capture technology. While ammonia escape is one of the main barrier limiting its implementation. The present work reviews the current status of ammonia escape mechanisms and its inhibition technologies. The chemistry of ammonia-based absorption and desorption are analyzed, and the mass transfer of the ammonia escape are presented and discussed. Most suppression approaches for ammonia slip are in lab- and bench-scale studies. The representative development of the pilot-scale tests involves NH3 abatement and recycling process and chilled ammonia process (CAP). Some other novel processes have been reported the potential to reduce ammonia slip significantly and relatively lower energy penalty, but some technical issues including the process modification and parameters optimization should be resolved to secure economic feasibility. Integration of different ammonia inhibition approaches is suggested for the future development of ammonia slip suppression process.
