  • Estetisk och kosmetisk tandvård. Nytt och unikt eller gamla metoder som vidareutvecklats?
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Tandläkartidningen. - 0039-6982. ; 97:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Crossing to the mainstream : An exploration of information implications and possibilities for female legislators in the Ugandan Parliament
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The study sought to explore whether there are information issues/challenges that could be encountered by women in the legislative context. The choice to focus the investigation on the experiences of women, was mainly influenced by their relatively novice experiences in the legislative context, having transcended from their socially constructed private life into a more public and visible domain. Women, in this research, are conceptualized as having occupied a less dominant and in particular, a marginal and obscured position in public life and I attempted to find out what happens when they leave these restricted domains and become part of the mainstream, what challenges do they face and what are the information implications and consequences within the new terrain? The study was carried out on the Ugandan Parliament and a total of thirty five (35) legislators participated, out of which twenty two (22) were women and thirteen (13) men. There were also other respondents (non legislators) interviewed and included, who were found to be connected to the issues under investigation. Several techniques have been utilized to gather pertinent data, and they mainly include observations, in-depth interviews, and documentary sources. The findings indicate that there are still some impediments within the organizational framework that impacts on women’s information choices and possibilities. Women are also able to fight back and exert some influence in their main network of the Women’s Parliamentary Association, UWOPA.

  • Optimal Algorithms for Multiplayer Multi-Armed Bandits
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Twenty Third International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics, PMLR. - : ML Research Press.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper addresses various Multiplayer Multi-Armed Bandit (MMAB) problems, where M decision-makers, or players, collaborate to maximize their cumulative reward. We first investigate the MMAB problem where players selecting the same arms experience a collision (and are aware of it) and do not collect any reward. For this problem, we present DPE1 (Decentralized Parsimonious Exploration), a decentralized algorithm that achieves the same asymptotic regret as that obtained by an optimal centralized algorithm. DPE1 is simpler than the state-of-the-art algorithm SIC-MMAB Boursier and Pen-het (2019), and yet offers better performance guarantees. We then study the MMAB problem without collision, where players may select the same arm. Players sit on vertices of a graph, and in each round, they are able to send a message to their neighbours in the graph. We present DPE2, a simple and asymptotically optimal algorithm that outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithm DD-UCB Martinez-Rubio et al. (2019). Besides, under DPE2, the expected number of bits transmitted by the players in the graph is finite.

  • Economics and engineering of unpredictable events : modelling, planning and policies
  • 2022. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent decades, the intensification of unpredictable events including the COVID- 19 outbreak, Brexit, trade warfare, religion- inspired terrorism and civil wars, and climate change has resulted in serious loss of human lives and property, a decrease in biodiversity and natural hazards (with long- term negative impacts on environment), and impeded social and economic development.Economics and Engineering of Unpredictable Events: Modelling, Planning and Policies provides an integrated view of the management of unpredictable events incorporating three major perspectives: economic management, environmental planning, and engineering models. Contributors from economics, planning, regional science, and engineering address key questions including: How resilient are human societies and their habitats? What should societies do to shift from being vulnerable to being more resilient? And what role should planning and policies play to protect communities and the natural environment? The chapters cover academic debates, conceptual reflections, case studies, methods, and strategy development with particular reference to mitigation and adaptation in face of unpredictable events. This book is of particular interest to readers of economic policy, urban and regional planning and engineering.

  • Measurement of Bottom Versus Charm as a Function of Transverse Momentum with Electron-Hadron Correlations in p plus p Collisions at s=200 GeV
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 103:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The momentum distribution of electrons from semileptonic decays of charm and bottom quarks for midrapidity |y|< 0.35 in p+p collisions at s=200 GeV is measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider over the transverse momentum range 2 < p(T)< 7 GeV/c. The ratio of the yield of electrons from bottom to that from charm is presented. The ratio is determined using partial D/D -> e(+/-)K(-/+)X (K unidentified) reconstruction. It is found that the yield of electrons from bottom becomes significant above 4 GeV/c in p(T). A fixed-order-plus-next-to-leading-log perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculation agrees with the data within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. The extracted total bottom production cross section at this energy is sigma(bb)=3.2(-1.1)(+1.2)(stat)(-1.3)(+1.4)(syst)mu b.

  • Pseudorapidity Dependence of Particle Production and Elliptic Flow in Asymmetric Nuclear Collisions of p+Al, p+Au, d+Au, and 3He+Au at √sNN=200 GeV
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 121
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Asymmetric nuclear collisions of p+Al, p+Au, d+Au, and 3He+Au at √sNN=200 GeV provide an excellent laboratory for understanding particle production, as well as exploring interactions among these particles after their initial creation in the collision. We present measurements of charged hadron production dNch/dη in all such collision systems over a broad pseudorapidity range and as a function of collision multiplicity. A simple wounded quark model is remarkably successful at describing the full data set. We also measure the elliptic flow v2 over a similarly broad pseudorapidity range. These measurements provide key constraints on models of particle emission and their translation into flow.

  • J/psi production versus centrality, transverse momentum, and rapidity in Au+Au collisions at root S(NN) = 200 GeV
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 98:23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PHENIX experiment at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has measured J/psi production for rapidities -2.2 < y < 2.2 in Au+Au collisions at root s(NN)=200 GeV. The J/psi invariant yield and nuclear modification factor R-AA as a function of centrality, transverse momentum, and rapidity are reported. A suppression of J/psi relative to binary collision scaling of proton-proton reaction yields is observed. Models which describe the lower energy J/psi data at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron invoking only J/psi destruction based on the local medium density predict a significantly larger suppression at RHIC and more suppression at midrapidity than at forward rapidity. Both trends are contradicted by our data.

  • Cold Nuclear Matter Effects on J/psi Yields as a Function of Rapidity and Nuclear Geometry in d plus A Collisions at root S-NN=200 GeV
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 107:14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present measurements of J/psi yields in d + Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV recorded by the PHENIX experiment and compare them with yields in p + p collisions at the same energy per nucleon-nucleon collision. The measurements cover a large kinematic range in J/psi rapidity (-2.2 < y < 2.4) with high statistical precision and are compared with two theoretical models: one with nuclear shadowing combined with final state breakup and one with coherent gluon saturation effects. In order to remove model dependent systematic uncertainties we also compare the data to a simple geometric model. The forward rapidity data are inconsistent with nuclear modifications that are linear or exponential in the density weighted longitudinal thickness, such as those from the final state breakup of the bound state.
