- This presentation is a part of a course at the basic level at Stockholm University. It is a course which was supported by the Centre for Canadian Studies of Stockholm University. The course is designed to introduce students to a variety of aspects related to the history, culture and literature of Canadian society. It also tackles the bilingual aspect of Canadian society and helps students to discuss issues that are relevant in Canada. The course then looks at the challenges facing Canada in the 21st Century with focus on immigration and multiculturalism, the First Nations, gender equality, specific regions in Canada with special emphasis on Québec, and Canada's cultural identity. The introduction focuses on the historical and political aspects of Canada. It also borrows the concept of “politics of recognition” to understand the relations between two former colonial powers and indigenous populations.

Introduction to French postmodern thinkers

- This introduction to French postmodern thinkers describes the context of May 1968 in France and the elaboration of postmodern theories from the 1970s on. The notion of postmodernity is ambiguous as it refers to a series of definitions depending if the focus is on the artistic movement or the historical epoch. Most of the French postmodern thinkers were influenced by the German philosophy with the description of the crisis of modernity (Freud, Marx, Nietzsche and Heidegger). The development of the French theory (or French studies) is linked to the promotion of these French thinkers (Foucault, Derrida, Kristeva, Baudrillard, Deleuze) who had an influence on the field of discourse analysis.This presentation is a part of a course given at the advanced level at Stockholm University.

Julia Kristeva and semiotics

- Julia Kristeva is a central figure among the French postmodern thinkers. This presentation on her thought is a part of a course on French postmodern thinkers which is given at the advanced level at Stockholm University. Julia Kristeva deeply influenced the fields of linguistics and literary theory. She particularly developed a famous distinction between the "semiotic" (pre-Oedipian phase) and the "symbolic" (Post-Oedipal phase). She also focused on the idea of abjection (rejection of things that the subject does not want to recognize).

- This presentation of the thoughts of Jean-François Lyotard and Michel Foucault is a part of a course on French Postmodern thinkers which is given at the advanced level at Stockholm University. Lyotard is often perceived as one of the first thinkers who described the postmodern attitude consisting in analyzing the relation between power and knowledge. Foucault's methodology is introduced with the influence that he had on the development of discourse analysis.
