  • A Review of Research on Driving Styles and Road Safety
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Human Factors. - : SAGE Publications. - 1547-8181 .- 0018-7208. ; 57:No. 7, November 2015, s. 1248- 1275
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To outline a conceptual framework for understanding driving style and, based on this, review the state-of-the-art research on driving styles in relation to road safety. Background: Previous research has indicated a relationship between the driving styles adopted by drivers and their crash involvement. However, a comprehensive literature review of driving style research is lacking. Method: A systematic literature search was conducted, including empirical, theoretical and methodological research on driving styles related to road safety. Results: A conceptual framework was proposed where driving styles are viewed in terms of driving habits established as a result of individual dispositions as well as social norms and cultural values. Moreover, a general scheme for categorising and operationalizing driving styles was suggested. On this basis, existing literature on driving styles and indicators was reviewed. Links between driving styles and road safety were identified and individual and socio-cultural factors influencing driving style were reviewed. Conclusion: Existing studies have addressed a wide variety of driving styles, and there is an acute need for a unifying conceptual framework in order to synthesise these results and make useful generalisations. There is a considerable potential for increasing road safety by means of behaviour modification. Naturalistic driving observations represent particularly promising approaches to future research on driving styles. Application: Knowledge about driving styles can be applied in programmes for modifying driver behaviour and in the context of usage-based insurance. It may also be used as a means for driver identification and for the development of driver assistance systems.

  • Doing and undoing the humanities in times of uncertainty : Practices of feminist posthumanities
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: UNESCO World Humanities Report: Europe. - Göttingen/Utrecht : World Humanities Report (UNESCO and Regional Research Team Europe). ; , s. 1-7
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • After invitation to agenda-setting researchers in Europe, this is a short essay or memo in response. It is on the role and relevance of the Humanities in the contemporary world, especially on the practices of feminist posthumanities within environmental/biomedical/public and techno-humanities and how they transform the relevance of the Humanities in a world shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • A Narrative Review of Ecomuseum Literature: Suggesting a Thematic Classification and Identifying Sustainability as a Core Element
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of the Inclusive Museum. - 1835-2014. ; 7, s. 15-29
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ecomuseology has become an important transdisciplinary field, but until now there is no overview of the existing scholarly literature. In this review we analyzed scholarly articles on ecomuseums thematically with the aim to provide a comprehensive knowledge base for future research and to distill a common denominator for ecomuseum research. Using pre-defined inclusion criteria we identified 61 articles and a comparative thematic analysis revealed the following six themes: “concepts and theories”, “landscape”, “culture and anthropology”, “development”, “management”, and “evaluation”. Though represented in varied thematic expressions, sustainability emerged as a core element in ecomuseology. This demonstrates that sustainability is an implicit and coherent element in ecomuseology. Most of the literature was conceptual, but a few studies included empirical material. Several themes hold potential for future transdisciplinary research as well as for collaboration with museum and community practitioners. The field has the potential to contribute to the larger field of sustainable community development.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: LexicoNordica. - 0805-2735. ; :30, s. 7-12

  • A scoping review of interventions for preventing and countering violent extremism: Current status and implications for future research
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal for deradicalization. - 2363-9849. ; :19, s. 1-84
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The growth of counter-terrorism efforts has been reported in a number of scholarly studies. These studies have also reported a shift in efforts to prevent future terrorism towards targeting potential future terrorists and preventing them from becoming radicalized, particularly in the Western world. The importance of evidence-based interventions is commonly stressed in the policy processes involved in installing interventions that have the aim of countering/preventing violent extremism (C/PVE). However, there is a lack of knowledge about the state of the evidence for interventions within this field. The objective of this scoping review was to map the evidence base for P/CVE interventions as reported in scholarly studies. We searched multiple databases using search terms related to violent extremism, terrorism and prevention to assess the research describing interventions for C/PVE. A total of 111 publications were included in the study. The interventions identified were most commonly implemented at the national level. Only 38 publications mentioned any kind of outcome and only two publications evaluated the comparative effectiveness of the interventions. The outcomes evaluated were knowledge and attitudes - outcomes without direct relevance for C/PVE. In conclusion, there is a lack of evidence-based interventions that focus on C/PVE. Future research should focus on evaluating the comparative effectiveness of outcomes that are relevant to C/PVE in order to fill this knowledge gap.

  • Cultural complexity and complexity evolution
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Adaptive Behavior. - : SAGE Publications. - 1059-7123 .- 1741-2633. ; 28:5, s. 329-358
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We review issues stemming from current models regarding the drivers of cultural complexity and cultural evolution. We disagree with the implication of the treadmill model, based on dual-inheritance theory, that population size is the driver of cultural complexity. The treadmill model reduces the evolution of artifact complexity, measured by the number of parts, to the statistical fact that individuals with high skills are more likely to be found in a larger population than in a smaller population. However, for the treadmill model to operate as claimed, implausibly high skill levels must be assumed. Contrary to the treadmill model, the risk hypothesis for the complexity of artifacts relates the number of parts to increased functional efficiency of implements. Empirically, all data on hunter-gatherer artifact complexity support the risk hypothesis and reject the treadmill model. Still, there are conditions under which increased technological complexity relates to increased population size, but the dependency does not occur in the manner expressed in the treadmill model. Instead, it relates to population size when the support system for the technology requires a large population size. If anything, anthropology and ecology suggest that cultural complexity generates high population density rather than the other way around.
