- The book, edited by Catharina Dyrssen, draws on coclusions from two larger artistic research project on urban sound environments, sound art, acoustic space, and spatial aspects of sound. The chapters comprise reflections on sound quality ans sound awareness, sound design and audio editing, technical solutions for artistic problems, and how sound can be composed and used in architectural and urban design. In text and images the four authors discuss a number of investigative projects performed within the artistic and interdisciplinary research group Urban Sound Institute.

- The AHA festival investigates the borders between art and science in a three-day event at the Chalmers University of Technology hosted by the Department of Architecture. An international festival intended to provide enlightening experiences, staging surprises, new thoughts and displaced perspectives that lead to alternative modes of thinking about the space between art and science. We invite scientists (physicists, historians, mathematicians, medical students), artists (dancers, musicians, painters, poets, chefs) and not least architects, who reside in these borderlands and wish to share their vision and work. The key intention is to celebrate both art and science as key knowledge building devices.

- Seminarieserien "Sinnenas musik" har final. Ett sjätte sinne, säger många av oss. Extrasensorisk perception, rättar oss i så fall forskarna – med en beteckning som på 1930-talet myntades av den ameri- kanske botanikern Joseph Banks Rhine. Men vad är det egentligen för något? Det som man ibland kallar magkänsla? Eller intuition? Hur påverkas vi av den? Och hur använder vi allt vi inte kan organisera, intellektualisera och kvantifiera? Som till exempel en del av de upplevelser musiken skänker oss? Duo Granmo/Berg utforskar begreppet "Det sjätte sinnet" ur ett musikaliskt perspektiv tillsammans med Maria Küchen är poet och författare, Fredrik Höök professor i biologisk fysik vid Chalmers, Michael Eriksson och Peter Christensson, projektledare för AHA-festivalen vid Chalmers samt diskuterar och samtalar med en inbjuden skara specialister från olika områden.

- I detta poddavsnitt talar vi om Andy Warhols fyra serigrafier ”Marilyn Monroe” från 1967, som finns på Göteborgs konstmuseum. Vi berättar mer om varför popkonsten skiljer sig så mycket från annan konst i sitt uttryck och formspråk, och hur det massmediala konsumtionssamhället som växte fram efter andra världskriget inspirerade popkonstnärer som Andy Warhol. Det är en tid då det enorma bildflödet i det offentliga rummet, som vi är så vana vid nuförtiden, precis tar fart och då konstnärer använder sig av de återkommande bilderna från underhållningsindustrin och reklamer för att kommentera på samhället och för att utplåna skillnaderna medan populärkultur och finkultur. Medan Andy Warhol hade full fokus att visa Monroe som en säljbar produkt från underhållningsindustrin, ser vi i detta poddavsnitt människan bakom motivet och berättar mer om den oerhörda personliga tragedin som Warhol, nästan omgående efter hennes självmord 1962, exploaterade ytterligare.

- The making of artefacts is a core activity in society, the result of which contributes to the building up of our physical surroundings and material culture. Throughout history, craft skills have been highly appreciated and have often been seen as crucial component of a capable human. Despite this, the knowledge base that constitutes the actual making is often overlooked in research. What can we learn about things by learning about their making? How do different craft skills offer an understanding of its historical use? How can theoretical and methodological approaches be developed concerning the actual making? How can we study and understand craft as cultural heritage? This book contains a selecion of papers from the session Crafting Cultural Heritage at the Assosiation of Critical Heritage studies inaugural conference Re/theorising Heritage 2012 in Gothenburg. The contributors are Anneli Palmsköld; Thomas Laurien; Eleonora Lupo and Elena Giunta; Gunnar Almevik and Nicola Donovan. Their common interest are theories and methods of crafting that could benefit heritage studies approach to making.

- This paper is a “constructed multilogue” oriented around a set of questions about sound art in Singapore. I have lived here since 2007 and felt that a “community report” should aim to probe recent history deeper than what I could possibly do on my own, in order to give a rich perspective of what is happening here today. I was very happy when Pete Kellock, Zul Mahmod and Mark Wong agreed to be interviewed. Each has a long-time involvement in the Singapore sound scene, in a different capacity. Pete is an electroacoustic music composer who has worked in research and entrepreneurship, and is a founder of muvee technologies. Zul is a multimedia artist and performer who has developed a rich personal expression, mixing sonic electronics, sculpture and robotics in playful ways. Mark is a writer and sound artist who has followed Singapore’s experimental scenes closely since the 1990s.I sent the three of them a letter containing a range of observations I had made (which may or may not be entirely accurate) and questions (admittedly thorny and intended to provoke), including the following:The geographical location and Singapore’s historic reason-to-be as a trading post has instilled a sense of ephemerality — people come and go, ideas and traditions too — as well as a need to develop contacts with the exterior. The arts scene in general seems to be largely a reflection of whatever the current trading priorities demand. In what way does the current local sound art reflect the larger forces within Singaporean society? Since art is mostly orally traded, how are its traditions nurtured and developed?Around 2010, the Government seems to have indicated a new task for cultural workers, including sound artists and musicians: to define — create or discover, stitch-up or steal — a “Singapore identity”. The Singapore Art Festival shut down two years while the think tanks were brewing. Will this funnel taxpayer money and (more importantly) peoples’ attention towards folkloristic or museal music, rather than to radical and/or intellectual sound art? At the same time, there is considerable commercial pressure to subsume music / sound listening into an experiential, multimodal, game-like and socially mediated lifestyle product. Are commercialization and identity-seeking two sides of the same coin — one side inflation-prone, and the other a possible counterfeit? Is there room for a “pure listening experience”, for example to electroacoustic music? Or is the future of sound art ineluctably intertwined with sculptural and visual elements?Different kinds of creative people involved in sound art are entrepreneurs, programmers, academics, educators, curators and journalists. Which institutions nurture talent and bring audiences to meet new experiences? Where are the hothouses for developing ideas, craft, artistry, innovation and business?The interviews, loosely structured around these themes, were made in January and February 2014. Our conversations often took unexpected turns (mostly for the better). I diligently transcribed the recordings, and each interviewee made corrections and additions, before we gently nudged spoken language a little closer to prose. I then brought out a pair of big scissors and a large pot of coffee, and made a cut-out collage, weaving the texts into the multilogue that follows. The idea has been to create an illusion of four people conversing with each other under the same roof. Deceit or not, at the very least, we all live and work on the same small island, somewhere in the deep southeast. I hope you will enjoy reading Sound Art Singapore.

Med afsät i et PhD projekt ved Arkitektskolen Århus og med fondsmidler fra Knud Höjgårds Fond og Fonden Realdania, gennemförte jeg et Postdoc på Arkitektskolen Århus med afsögning af CRC´s formpotentialer for byggerier med spändvidder helt op til 500 m. Det blev der denne bog ud af samt en udstilling på Charlottenborgs Forårsudstilling. Tak til Knud Höjgårds Fond, Fonden Realdania og Arkitektskolen Århus også for stötte til at skabe denne bog.

- Research and discussion about public art frequently focuses on conditions of emergence and production for public works. Fountains Failures Futures starts at the other end – thinking about the afterlives of public art in relation to processes of decline, decay, acts of reparation and re-imagination, transformation, and change. We are interested in questions of sustainability,custodianship, and whether “failed” public artworks can be revitalised and thought anew. What are the implications for their authorship and ownership, and what challenges does this present for commissioners, artists, architects, and urban planners?How can producers, owners and custodians of public artworks, and the communities living with these works, anticipate and accommodate complex afterlives of public art?
