- Den här boken introducerar några viktiga författare på samtidsaktuella teoriområden. Donna Haraway, Karen Barad, Rosi Braidotti, Michel Callon, Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Michel Serres och Annemarie Mol presenteras i boken, som också innehåller översatta texter av dessa namn. Boken ger en bakgrund till och en överblick över ett område i intensiv teoriutveckling. Här presenteras den så kallade materiella, posthumana eller ontologiska vändningen. - This thesis takes the conservator as a starting point to explore more-than-human aspects of the museum of modernity. Assuming that built-in obstacles impinge when museums today deal with environmental issues‚ it investigates new and alternative perspectives on the engagement with our immediate surroundings, in this case the museum objects. The objective of this study is to map museum processes hidden in the anthropocentric museum of modernity. The aim is to broaden the perspective on the museum to include what the museum structures of modernity have pushed aside: ongoing processes and becomings, and the myriad of energetic more-than-human agencies and temporalities constantly at work in a museum.The main empirical material consists of interviewes with conservators working in different departements and museums in Sweden. This material also includes my own experiences of working as a conservator and as an exhibition producer in various museums. There is a particular focus on the care of objects performed by conservators. The material also includes Swedish Government Official Reports (SOU) and one central text from the Ministry Publications Series (Ds). Furthermore, more-than-human agencies play an important role: enacted through the museum apparatus in shape of humidity and silverfish.Posthuman theory, environmental humanities and material feminism form the overarching theoretical framework as well as provide the analytical tools. Three main themes from these theoretical areas run throughout the entire thesis: anthropocentrism, more-than-human agency, dualistic thinking and dichotomies. All of which are applied to the empirical material. To conclude, museums have been part of modernity’s ambitions and ideals since they were established just over 100 years ago. This thesis shows how, in the structures of the museum, modernity’s ideas have persisted. Furthermore, these structures of thought appear and interfere, inter alia, in the conservator’s experiences of and thoughts about their work and professional identity. However, when working intimately with the museum objects more-than-human relational processes and other productive connections emerge, whereby the structures, derived from moderity’s thinking, are challenged in productive ways. This forms the line of flight that the title refers to; here perceived as a possibility for change, in a direction that could promote new ways for museums to tackle complex more-than-human issues, such as climate change and environmental matters.

- The Internet may provide the means for otherwise marginalized groups – such as young people with mental health problems – to make their voices heard in public, and online representations are therefore an important source for studying how emotions are conceptualized and communicated in these groups. In an on-going study of YouTube video montages on the subject of self-injury, we have found one emblematic and frequently occurring character: a girl sitting alone in a corner, on the floor, with drawn up knees and head bent down. Images of this character are widespread, not only on YouTube but also on blogs, discussion forums and websites. Together with her likewise sitting 'sisters' – the girl on the swing, the girl on the pier and on the railway track – she is taken to represent young people's unhappiness, pain and misery. Our chapter sets out to explore in greater detail how this character emerges as a signifier of gendered suffering in online contexts. We argue that it contributes to an aestheticization of suffering that often seems to emanate from the rejection of conventional ideals and hegemonic definitions of normality; the embracing of suffering might, thus, be used as a strategy for achieving social distinction. Also, we suggest in our chapter that the girl in the corner and similar representations may be seen as facilitating certain emotional identifications, especially as regards gender.

- In this paper I will propose that greenhouse superstructures are not just the surface envelop of an industrial typology: they are more so a spatial archetype. As such, they are historiographical boundary objects that at times display the spatiotemporal dimensions and geopolitical flows of environmental form in accelerated climate change. This abovementioned hypothesis is reflected through the manifold of “resilience” as defined by Prof. Lawrence Vale - of resilience being “a window into conflicting human values”. The aim of this effort is to ultimately centre the manifold notion of “greenhouse” as an index that points away from itself towards the impact of anthropological and technocratic ideologies on agricultural and spatial production. It is these binary ideologies that arguably create what we sense to be a crisis of scale, now further articulated as the hyperobject of climate change as a disjuncture that we nostalgically entertain as a chasm between the human condition and the living environment. Parsed by augmenting the notion of 'greenhouse superstructure' – as technology, gas, and effect – the hypothesis looks to articulate the greenhouse as a 'site-specific non-local' sensation on the expanding sculptural field. What this expanding sculptural netherworld implies needs to be rigorously addressed for it may very well become what tautologically heightens the greenhouse to the providence of becoming our future atmosphere and landscape. To elaborate this potentiality, I will first present the schematics and precedents of the dissertation, including four installations of my authorship in Germany, Brazil, and Sweden. These sections then lead to an argument instantiated by thinking of the greenhouse as 'social pedestal'. The objective is therefore to embody the notion of non-local site-specific resilience as modes of pedagogy and production that aspire to destabilise the anthropological machine, as resilient modes not limited to historic, scientific, artistic, correlational, nor speculative conventions.

- Utifrån tvärvetenskapliga perspektiv och metoder, hämtade från etnologin och kulturgeografin, och med en empirisk utgångspunkt i tre kulturmiljöer som förvaltas av Statens fastighetsverk (SFV) i Sverige, analyserar artikeln historiebruk i form av kulturarvsproduktion och föreslår ett applicerbart normkritiskt samt i förlängningen normkreativt angreppssätt för att möjliggöra alternativa, varierade och mer inkluderande historieskildringar kring kulturmiljöer. Genom att utveckla och integrera dessa synsätt och verktyg vill artikeln argumentera för att man får tillgång till nya berättelser om platsen; berättelser som går utöver den traditionella, „normala“ historien om staten, enskilda byggnaders materiella utformning och den sociokulturella och ekonomiska eliten. En långsiktig effekt blir att det möjliggör ökad mångfald och inkludering både i fråga om förmedling och representation av platser som komplexa rumsliga och sociokulturella helheter.

- Kultur som skapas i en stad eller i en region bidrar till dess goda rykte. Men vad som slår hos en viss publik kan inte alltid förutses. Även Umeås alternativa musikliv har "spritt ordet" om staden vidare ut i världen: Umeå är annorlunda.Ett gott rykte som en "alternativ" stad är inte helt lätt att beordra eller administrera fram. Den här rapporten handlar om hur man ändå kan försöka locka det alternativa att etablera sig. Här jämförs två verksamheter inriktade mot ungdomskultur, den ena kommunal, den andra självstyrd, med syfte att hitta styrkor och svagheter. Utifrån denna jämförelse skapas sedan en bild av ett idealt kulturhus.En sådan idealbild skulle kunna användas som underlag för diskussioner om principer för styrning och resursfördelning på kulturområdet inte bara i Umeå och i andra västerbottenskommuner utan även i regionen.Med hjälp av rapportens idealbild hävdas att kommunala myndigheter har anlednig att uppmärksamma fördelarna med att ett hus styrs ideellt och är självförsörjande. I gengäld bör också husets förvaltare, i den mån de förväntar sig kommunalt stöd, acceptera att lyfta fram verksamhetens allmänna nytta. Det ideala huset bör till exempel kunna anta flera olika identiteter, för att lättare kunna fylla en mångfald av arrangemang.
