  • How does an AI diagnose dyspnoea in ED triage without human guidance?
  • 2024
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • • We aimed to capture possible insights from an AI diagnosing without human guidance.• We believe the result mainly aligns with previous knowledge. Though, vital signs and sex did not aid the AI diagnostics.

  • Occupational allergic contact dermatitis to gloves, follow-up of investigated patients
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Contact Dermatitis. - : Wiley. - 0105-1873. ; 70:Suppl s1, s. 94-94
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background: In the Department of Occupational and Environmental Dermatology there has been an increase in the inflow of patients, working as surgical nurses or surgeons. They have been referred due to presumed occupational contact dermatitis. Results from investigated patients have in part been presented previously, where the investigation has shownmultiple contact allergies caused by their occupational use of gloves. Allergens such as diphenylguanidine were found in the gloves and contact allergies to their rubber gloves were found. Many of the patients have been working for decades in their present occupation, but the hand dermatitis had often been present for less than a year. Objectives: To present a follow-up of patientswith hand dermatitis due to gloves. Methods: A follow-up of the patients and a structure for the investigation of the individual patient are given. Results: The cases will be presented with their contact allergies, howtheinvestigation isperformedandtheoutcomeof theprevention by avoiding gloves containing the allergens diagnosed in the individual patients. Conclusions: For health care personnel hand hygiene and the wearing of protective gloves are mandatory. Our findings indicate that the increased need to use rubber gloves and at the same time the exclusion of latex gloves give rise to new contact allergies which are clinically relevant. In the investigation, and the advice given to the patients, several factors have to be taken into consideration, including the fast change of glove material. The cases indicate the importance of close cooperation between chemists and dermatologists and the possibility to perform chemical analysis. Furthermore, and just as important for this patient group, is that with correct diagnosis and advice the contact dermatitis can actually heal completely and the patients continue in their work.

  • Importance of paranasal sinuses in computational modeling of nasal airflow
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: 47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition. - : AIAA. - 9781563479694 ; , s. 2009-0772-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper investigates the importance of including paranasal sinuses in the computational modeling of the nasal airflow. Three dimensional models of human nasal airway with and without including paranasal sinuses were reconstructed from Computed Tomography (CT) axial images of a subject with healthy nasal airway. The reconstruction process was performed using MIMICS® software program. The airway volume was discretized using TGRID® mesh generator. Steady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations were carried in both inspiratory and expiratory phases of respiratory cycle at a peak flow rate of 15 L/min in FLUENT®. The results show that the left and right nasal resistances change with less than 11% when paranasal sinuses are included in the computational model of the nasal airway. The flow into the sinuses is characterized by very low velocities during both inspiration and expiration conditions. The velocity distributions in the main nasal passage show small change predominantly in regions closer to the paranasal sinuses when compared to the model where sinuses were not included.

  • Phase contrast MRI segmentation using multiple cues
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: SSBA Symposium on Image Analysis.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper presents a method for three-dimensional (3D) segmentation of blood vessels, using a combination of velocity data and magnitude images obtained using phase contrast MRI. In addition to standard MRI images, phase contrast MRI gives velocity information for blood and tissue. The proposed method uses a variational formulation of the segmentation problem which combines different cues; velocity and magnitude. Experiments on phantom and clinical data support the proposed method.

  • Feasibility of Patient Specific Aortic Blood Flow CFD Simulation
  • 2006. - 1
  • Ingår i: Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention – MICCAI 2006. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. - 3540447075 - 9783540447276 - 9783540447078 ; , s. 257-263
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patient specific modelling of the blood flow through the human aorta is performed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Velocity patterns are compared between computer simulations and measurements. The workflow includes several steps: MRI measurement to obtain both geometry and velocity, an automatic levelset segmentation followed by meshing of the geometrical model and CFD setup to perform the simulations follwed by the actual simulations. The computational results agree well with the measured data.
