  • Discrimination of mothers for convalescent treatment? | Diskriminierung bei Kuren für Mütter?
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Pravention und Gesundheitsforderung. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1861-6755 .- 1861-6763. ; 10:3, s. 218-221
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2015 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg Background: In the data report 2014, the German Maternal Convalescence Movement (Müttergenesungswerk) identified a possible discrimination against mothers with a low level of education in health convalescent treatment allocation. Objective: The question whether this discrimination is supported by data is investigated. Material and methods: Based on a special analysis of the microcensus (Statistisches Bundesamt), the percentage of the education level of all economically active mothers with a child under the age of 10 years is compared with the corresponding percentages of health convalescent treatment participants. Results: No discrimination against mothers with a low level of education in health convalescent treatment allocation was found in this data set.

  • Als Orthopäden noch Physioterapeuten waren, oder warum es Physiotherapeuten an Geschichtsbewusstsein mangelt – Verhältnis von Orthopädie und Physiotherapie in Schweden im 19. Jahrhundert
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Manuelle Therapie. - 1433-2671. ; 14:1, s. 14-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the 19th century, Orthopedists in Sweden were more of Physical therapists than orthopedists. The article explains why this was the case and why this is a forgotten chapter in the professional history of Orthopedists and Physical therapists. Point of departure is that the writing of history is a powerful professional tool and that lapses in one’s memory will occur as a result of conflicts where victors have the ability to chose what is worth remembering. In this case Orthopedists on one hand wanted to hide and forget the malignant battles they had with male Physical therapist regarding the preferential rights of interpretation in the field of mechanical medicine, on the other that they depended on Physical therapy both for a living and to render orthopedics scientific status. It was not until Orthopedists became surgeons that they could emancipate themselves from their dependency of Physical therapy. With this new profile they could reach the preferential rights of interpretation in the field of mechanical medicine and ‘write’ a new history able to master the future.

  • Mimikveränderungen während einer Traumatherapie : Explorative Studie zum Zusammenhang mimisch-affektiver Veränderungen mit therapeutischen Outcomes
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Psychotherapeut (Berlin). - : Springer. - 0935-6185 .- 1432-2080. ; 63:1, s. 49-54
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Clinicians frequently describe changes in facial affective behavior during the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). An increase in facial affective behavior is seen in association with a reduction of numbing symptoms. Objective: The purpose of this exploratory study was to demonstrate the changes in facial affective behavior (especially negative affects) during inpatient eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) treatment and to examine to what extent these changes correspond to shifts in symptom severity. Material and methods: Facial affective behavior was coded during therapeutic sessions for 16 patients who were chronically traumatized during their youth, using the facial action coding system (FACS) for 3 time points, before, during and 1 year after treatment with EMDR. Data of the impact of event scale revised (IES-R), the symptom checklist (SCL-90-R), Beck depression inventory (BDI-V) and a questionnaire for dissociative symptoms (FDS) was documented for 16 female patients with a mean age of 39 years (SD = ±10). Results and conclusion: There was a significant change in facial affective behavior during and after treatment (χ2(2) = 5.73, p = 0.030). Total facial affective behavior and the expression of negative affect significantly increased 1 year after therapy; however, there were no significant correlations between the change of facial affective behavior during EMDR treatment and relevant outcome variables. Further research will show if monitoring facial affective behavior is useful to assess therapeutic success, especially with respect to social interactions. © 2017, Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH.

  • Touch Medicine - a complementary therapeutic approach exemplified by the treatment of depression
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift. - : Georg Thieme Verlag KG. - 0012-0472 .- 1439-4413. ; 147, s. E32-E40
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Skin-to-skin-contact presents the earliest sensory experience of men and animals. Deprivation of age-relevant touch experiences during infancy results in compromised psychosocial and biological development. The 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded for the discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch. Clinical studies have demonstrated the benefit of professional salutary touch for prevention and treatment of various illnesses. However, in the present practice of medicine the application of salutary touch does not meet adequate interest. Proposing a new medical discipline "Touch Medicine" we link the findings of modern touch research to clinical medicine. The treatment of depression which we conceive primarily as a disease afflicting the body will serve as an example to demonstrate the usefulness of touch therapy. Controlled studies and systematic reviews have convincingly shown antidepressive, anxiolytic and analgesic effects of salutary touch. The effectiveness and efficacy of touch therapy has also been demonstrated in many areas such as neonatology, pediatrics, oncology, and geriatrics. We discuss the underlying mechanisms on various explanatory levels including interoceptive and oxytocinergic mechanisms as well as the role of C tactile afferent nerve fibers.
