- This is the second European Regional Conference, of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. A tradition is now becoming established to hold a European Regional conference every alternate year. This year´s conference themes are Leadership, Learning, and Research in Nursing and Midwifery. The purpose of the conference is to bring together nurses from various areas, countries, and experiences to exchange ideas, research, and practice and to facilitate networking, collaboration, and friendship. The conference is organized by the Sigma Theta Tau International European Regional Committee and the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, at the Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and in collaboration with Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). The conference has the ambition to interest nurses, midwives, students and researchers in diverse clinical practice and academic settings who are members of Sigma Theta Tau International. However, the conference is also interested to attract non-members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide. The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International strives to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education, and research to enhance the health of the world´s people. There are core expectations in nursing, midwifery, and caring that are central to professional working and will never change. Many of the oral and poster presentations in this conference illustrate these expectations. However, many presentations will also highlight the challenges that we face and the development that is required in nursing, midwifery, caring, education, and research. The seven themes in the programme reflect a broad range of issues, which will be of keen interest to most delegates. Three of these themes focused on patients, their families or caregivers and the world of professional nurses. One theme focuses on midwives and two themes focus on nurse teachers and the world of student nurses. The last theme focuses on methodological issues in research.
