    • Denna antologi är ett försök att illustrera graden av förståelse över disciplingräns för olika metoder. Företrädare för olika vetenskapliga inriktningar beskriver sin favoritmetod eller sin syn på vetenskaplig metod utifrån egna preferenser, eventuellt formade av deras disciplinära tillhörigheter. Varje författares bidrag har sedan lästs av de övriga som kommenterar och skriver kritiska frågor vilka besvaras av bidragsförfattaren. Som helhet visar bidragen, frågorna och författarnas svar på många av de olikheter som finns mellan vetenskaper och många av de utmaningar som finns i vetenskaplig samverkan. Förhoppningsvis kan boken bli ett bidrag till att hitta lösningar när tvärvetenskapliga fnurror på tråden uppstår.

    • Should parents aim to make their children as normal as possible to increase their chances to "fit in"? Are neurological and mental health conditions a part of children's identity and if so, should parents aim to remove or treat these? Should they aim to instill self-control in their children? Should prospective parents take steps to insure that, of all the children they could have, they choose the ones with the best likely start in life?This volume explores all of these questions and more. Against the background of recent findings and expected advances in neuroscience and genetics, the extent and limits of parental responsibility are increasingly unclear. Awareness of the effects of parental choices on children's wellbeing, as well as evolving norms about the moral status of children, have further increased expectations from (prospective) parents to take up and act on their changing responsibilities. The contributors discuss conceptual issues such as the meaning and sources of moral responsibility, normality, treatment, and identity. They also explore more practical issues such as how responsibility for children is practiced in Yoruba culture in Nigeria or how parents and health professionals in Belgium perceive the dilemmas generated by prenatal diagnosis.

    • Several of the articles contained in the volume show how logical categorisation and linguistic scholarship as found in ancient India explain the specificity of Indian culture and its contribution to world culture in a way that has not always been suffiently heeded in the West. Some articles show how linguistic, philosophical and textual studies in the Indo-Iranian field can be brought into a wider comparative context and how the study of Indo-European comparative linguistics can be connected with a general understanding of linguistic categories. Conceptual categories of ancient India are studied by Asko Parpola, Klaus Oetke and Johannes Bronkhorst. Bertil Tikkanen writes about the category of subject in Indian and Western linguistics. Folke Josephson and Gerd Carling discuss some case categories of Sanskrit and other Indo-European languages. W.L. Smith treats of variants of a literary tex. Kenneth Zysk writes about the role of mythology in the process of brahmanization of Indian medicine. Judith Josephson is concerned with the technique of interpretation of the Pahlavi translators. Claes Wennerberg studies a Finnish word of possible Indian origin. The volume is a tribute to Gösta Liebert, professor emeritus of Comparative Linguistics and Sanskrit at Göteborg University who unfortunately passed away at the moment when the book was about to go to the press.
