  • Smoothing impact of isostatic crustal thickness models on local integral inversion of satellite gravity gradiometry data
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: ACTA GEOPHYSICA. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1895-6572 .- 1895-7455. ; 59:5, s. 891-906
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effects of topographic masses on satellite gradiometric data are large and in order to reduce the magnitude of these effects some compensation mechanisms should be considered. Here we use the isostatic hypotheses of Airy-Heiskanen and the recent Vening Meinesz-Moritz for compensating these effects and to smooth the data prior to their downward continuation to gravity anomaly. The second-order partial derivatives of extended Stokes' formula are used for the continuations over a topographically rough territory like Persia. The inversions are performed and compared based on two schemes of the remove-compute-restore technique and direct downward continuation. Numerical results show that the topographic-isostatic effect based on Vening Meinesz-Mortiz's hypothesis smoothes the data better than that based on Airy-Heiskanen's hypothesis. Also the quality of inversions of the smoothed data by this mechanism is twice better than that of the nonsmoothed ones.

  • Investigation of the Effect of Short Exposure in the Temperature Range of 750-950 degrees C on the Ductility of Haynes (R) 282 (R) by Advanced Microstructural Characterization
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Metals. - : MDPI. - 2075-4701. ; 9:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A Gleeble-based test method has been developed to study the change in the ductility signature of Haynes (R) 282 (R) during isothermal exposure from 5 s to 1800 s. A temperature range of 750 to 950 degrees C has been used to investigate the effect of age-hardening reactions. Microstructural constituents have been analyzed and quantified using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Carbides present in the material are identified as primary MC-type TiC carbides, Mo-rich M6C secondary carbides, and Cr-rich M23C6 secondary carbides. Gamma prime (gamma’) precipitates are present in all the material conditions with particle sizes ranging from 2.5 nm to 58 nm. Isothermal exposure causes the growth of gamma’ and development of a grain boundary carbide network. A ductility minimum is observed at 800-850 degrees C. The fracture mode is found to be dependent on the stroke rate, where a transition toward intergranular fracture is observed for stroke rates below 0.055 mm/s. Intergranular fracture is characterized by microvoids present on grain facets, while ductility did not change during ongoing age-hardening reactions for intergranularly fractured Haynes (R) 282 (R).

  • Influence of build layout and orientation on microstructural characteristics of electron beam melted Alloy 718
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0268-3768 .- 1433-3015. ; 99:S1, s. 2903-2913
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Effects of build layout and orientation consisting of (a) height from the build plate (Z-axis), (b) distance between samples, and (c) location in the build plate (X-Y plane) on porosity, NbC fraction, and hardness in electron beam melted (EBM) Alloy 718 were studied. The as-built samples predominantly showed columnar structure with strong Ë‚001˃ crystallographic orientation parallel to the build direction, as well as NbC and ÎŽ-phase in inter-dendrites and grain boundaries. These microstructural characteristics were correlated with the thermal history, specifically cooling rate, resulted from the build layout and orientation parameters. The hardness and NbC fraction of the samples increased around 6% and 116%, respectively, as the height increased from 2 to 45 mm. Moreover, by increasing the height, formation of ÎŽ-phase was also enhanced associated with lower cooling rate in the samples built with a greater distance from the build plate. However, the porosity fraction was unaffected. Increasing the sample gap from 2 to 10 mm did not change the NbC fraction and hardness; however, the porosity fraction increased by 94%. The sample location in the build chamber influenced the porosity fraction, particularly in interior and exterior areas of the build plate. The hardness and NbC fraction were not dependent on the sample location in the build chamber. © 2018, The Author(s).
