  • En brokig gemenskap
  • 2017
  • Editorial collection (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Participatory journalism - the (r)evolution that wasn't. Content and user behavior in Sweden 2007-2013.
  • 2015
  • In: Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1083-6101. ; 20:3, s. 295-311
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A contemporary debate in media studies concerns participation and empowerment, and to what extent digital media shift power to the citizens. This study assesses the long-term viability of participatory journalism using Swedish content and user data. Inclusion of comments and blog-links on news sites increased from 2007 to 2010, and decreased rather dramatically from 2011 onward. Posting user comments or writing blogs have never been activities that have appealed to a majority of the Swedes. Participatory journalism seems to have decreasing value to producers and little appeal to users. A shift in how power is distributed in the public sphere is absent. This is not primarily a problem of reluctant producers but, more importantly, a lack of interest from users.

  • Books on Screens : Players in the Swedish e-book market
  • 2017
  • Book (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The music and film industries have long come to terms with the digital, and now the traditional printed book is challenged by digital formats. The e-book has become established in most countries, but is still a small part of the book industry. In this book a group of researchers follow the actors involved in the Swedish e-book market, from authors and publishers to libraries, booksellers and readers during 2012-2016. Using surveys, interviews and other sources the main actors were researched and it is shown how they act and react towards the e-book and towards each other. While the main focus in on Sweden as a small language country, several international comparisons are made. Are printed books disappearing soon? How are reading habits changing when the book becomes digital? Which forces are driving radical change and which are holding it back? The book discusses these and related questions and shows that after a period of rapid increase in the production and use of e-books, several factors slow down the rate of adoption, but digitisation of the book is an ongoing process and the current e-book is not the end of the story.

  • Benificial yet crappy: Journalists and audiences on obstacles and opportunities in reader comments
  • 2015
  • In: European Journal of Communication. - : SAGE Publications. - 0267-3231 .- 1460-3705. ; 30:2, s. 137-151
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Reader comments have been a growing part of user-generated content on news sites for some 10years now. Although activity is still relatively low, interest among the public is generally high; however, journalists still show a general resistance to audience participation. The aim of our study is to examine attitudes to reader comments from two different perspectives: the public’s and the journalists’. The findings derive from one Swedish survey from each group, both of which had a response rate of about 60%. The main result shows that a large proportion of the public does not have any opinion on reader comments, but when they do, support is widespread. Furthermore, journalists have stronger opinions and are rather critical towards reader comments.

  • Online privacy concerns: A broad approach to understanding the concerns of different groups for different uses
  • 2015
  • In: Computers in Human Behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 0747-5632. ; 53, s. 419-426
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Questions regarding personal privacy are becoming increasingly relevant, and the discussion continuously arises regarding what digital tracks we leave. Intrusive use and manipulation of personal information not only affect people’s behaviour, but also they could have important implications for political and civic society. Previous research has relied on convenience samples and has often focused on one or only a few areas of use. The presented study, based on a probability sample, gives an overall picture of how privacy concerns are perceived in different online contexts and how socio-demography, internet experience, trust, and political orientation contribute to the understanding of privacy concerns in different settings. The results clearly point to privacy concerns as being very diverse and dependent on the applications in question. All dimensions that are used to explain privacy concerns are partly supported in the study. But their explanatory powers differ and not all areas of concern are affected by the same explanatory factors. Trust in other people is the single most important factor explaining privacy concerns when using digital media and applications. The more people trust others, the less concern they have for misuse of personal information.

  • Internet – en kompanjon i vardagen
  • 2020
  • In: Digitala är vi allihopa?. - Göteborg : SOM-institutet, Göteborgs universitet. - 0284-4788. - 9789189673489 ; , s. 35-44
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
