  • Medelsta-matematik III : Eleverna räknar
  • 2006

  • Towards a working life? : Experiences in a rehabilitation process for people with psychiatric disabilities
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - London, United Kingdom : Informa Healthcare. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 17:2, s. 149-161
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to reveal the meaning some people with psychiatric disabilities assigned to important personal experiences in relation to an ongoing rehabilitation process. The data comprises open-ended interviews of eight participants. A hermeneutic approach together with a content analysis was used to analyse the data. The results indicated the importance of not relying on simplified prognoses early in a rehabilitation process when assessing rehabilitation measures and/or work capacity. The phenomenon of rehabilitation seemed to be very complex, diverse, and changed over time depending on different circumstances that arose during the rehabilitation process. These circumstances arose on individual, contextual as well as structural levels and all had an impact on the outcomes. The results also indicated that it seemed to be possible to achieve success, change attitudes, and create a positive image of a future related to a working life if the support was perceived as relevant and the activities undertaken were perceived as contributing to achievement of the individual's goals. Regardless of which path the informants later chose these factors were seen to support an empowerment process and active participation in their own rehabilitation.

  • Ageism and Anti-ageism in Public Policy
  • 2009
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper analyses the anti-ageist rhetoric of a recent Swedish government investigation whose stated aim is to formulate a policy against ageism. The article discusses ageism and anti-ageism as implicated in an intricate relationship with each other from a discourse theoretical approach through an analysis of the discursive logics that operate in the text. The goal of old age policy is, according to the proposals of the investigation, to make itself redundant through the elimination of ageism. Negative stereotypes and discrimination because of old age are thus made the basis of governmental policy on old age. The logic behind this is an understanding of older people as an artificial category because of its heterogeneity, and that age alone should not form the basis for government policy. The report argues that old age is changing and that this is related to new generations of older people; the first teenagers. The new generation of older people are said to be constituted by an active life style that will challenge established norms and ways of living in old age. But, counter to this dissociation from the decline narrative of ageing runs a parallel construction of older people as a category from an administrative perspective. From the logic of the administrative perspective older people, as a category, is defined by a negative deviation in relation to the generalized adulthood of the non-old.The paper discusses the different discursive logics that are used to articulate older people as a category in the investigation, and how the logics undermine the legitimacy and validity of each other. The analysis of these logics offer an interesting and fruitful way of understanding how older people as a category is constructed in public discourse.

  • 2010
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this dissertation is to identify and analyze organizational characteristics and interactional forces within the workplace organization that may affect the mobbing process. The empirical basis comprises 20 semistructured interviews with victims, observers, and bullies. Organizational theory and workplace studies are theoretical influences, as are the concepts of negotiations and outsiders. A central concept is employee discretion: formal, informal, and real discretion. Different parties in the mobbing process are identified and analyzed. It is confirmed that bullies create a negative perception of their victim and try to cause others to share this perception. Collaborators are those whom bullies potentially can recruit, and may include anyone who does not show open support for the victim. People who give open support to the victim are more likely to be bullied themselves, unless they have a strong position in the group. The mobbing process can begin for a large number of reasons. In this study, three main reasons are identified and discussed. First, mobbing can begin because the victim is seen as an outsider. Second, the mobbing process can begin with a change of position. The third main reason for a mobbing process to begin is a confrontation. Mobbing occurs only in contexts where people meet regularly and often and hence can only leave at high cost. Regular interaction and proximity to the same people are the only conditions necessary for mobbing to occur in a context. There are, however, a number of aggravating and mitigating latent characteristics or qualities that have been raised in this dissertation that may affect the mobbing process. These are cooperation and coexistence, existence of a place of retreat, distribution of bureaucratic authority and employer participation, the double belongings within the organization (formal and informal), reorganization and changing workload, and the organization’s relations to stakeholders. The same quality may be an obstacle to mobbing in one situation and facilitate it in another.

  • Methods on Inquiry
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Globalism, Localism and Identity. - London : Earthscan Ltd. - 1853837326 - 1853837318 - 9781853837326 ; , s. 82-101
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Global economic and social forces are affecting everyone, everywhere. However, their influence is shaped by local communities' interpretation of these forces and responses to them. Social identities provide a guide; they are the product of history, culture, economy, patterns of governance and degree of community cohesion. How the global and the local connect and reconfigure at various scales and through different cultures is explained in this forward-looking volume. The book's thesis, namely that localism is the crucial complement to globalism, is supported by a range of European case studies. Local responses to globalizing forces depend on the nature of the interlinkages in governance from international structures, through multilateral organizations to nation states, regions and localities, as these are mediated through social-local identity. The contributors draw on numerous themes in examining the interaction between the global and the local, such as decay and revitalization, local identity and empowerment, opportunism through sustainability and governance for the transition. This is a pioneering publication utilizing an innovative person-centred methodology. It makes an original and important contribution to the study of contemporary societies and is aimed at anyone interested in the social, economic, political, cultural and environmental implications of any move towards sustainability.

  • Students with disabilities participating in mainstream schools : policies that promote and limit teacher and therapist cooperation
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Disability & Society. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0968-7599 .- 1360-0508. ; 22:4, s. 383-398
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper examines participatory arrangements for students with physical disabilities in mainstream education, cooperation between teachers and therapists to ensure that these arrangements are efficient and the organizational prerequisites for such cooperation. The study comprises data obtained from 14 'groups', with each group consisting of a student with physical disabilities aged 919 years, their main teacher and the relevant therapists from the local habilitation centre. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations and a review of relevant documents, including legislation. The results reveal a lack of cooperation between teacher and therapist which results in students with disabilities receiving suboptimal participatory arrangements in school. Differences in the perspectives of the teachers and therapists and in the way they act and perceive their responsibilities were anchored in institutional and societal documents and the distribution of resources. The implications for students with disabilities are discussed.

  • Effects of the CDIO curriculum on engineering students’ experiences of their study  environment
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: World Transactions on Engineering and Technology Education. - : UICEE. - 1446-2257. ; 5:2, s. 357-360
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The focus of this paper will be engineering students’ experiences of their 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of their program. In 1999 the implementation of the CDIO curriculum started and in 2002 the first project based course, which was compliant with the CDIO philosophy, was introduced during the 1st and 3rd study year. Results are based on responses from three questionnaires given to all registered students, in all four cohorts, in the beginning of their 3rd, 4th and 5th year. In total, 664 questionnaire answers were received. In this study, the focus is on the following areas: (1) satisfaction with study results; (2) estimated work and perceived workload; (3) aspects of study related health; and (4) influence and cooperation with teachers and peer students. Comparisons are made within cohorts over time and between cohorts with regard to students’ self reported experiences in these areas. Results indicated that there were significant differences in some of the areas between cohorts that had not studied in a project-based approach and students who had done so. As the 1998 and 1999 cohorts did not followed the CDIO curriculum whereas the 2000 and 2002 cohorts did, differences between the cohorts in various areas can be related to the implementation of the CDIO curriculum.
