  • In: Aktivering - arbetsmarknadspolitik och socialt arbete i förändring. - Malmö : Liber. - 9789147090754 ; , s. 225-249
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The book chapter compares activation policies in Sweden, Germany and the UK as three different welfare regimes. The analysis starts out from a broad perspective on activation as passive and active attempts to redesign unemployment policies with a focus on increasing the linkage between work and welfare. It is argued that activation policies differ considerably between countries, but also in regard to different groups of the unemployed according to their status within existing benefit systems. Regime differences are generally maintained, but there are signs of convergence with regard to the weakest labour market groups and welfare clients.

  • 2009
  • In: Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv. - Karlstad : Karlstads universitet. - 1400-9692. ; 15:3, s. 65-79
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract

  • Age, policy changes and work orientation : comparing changes in commitment to paid work in four European Countries
  • 2009
  • In: Journal of Population Ageing. - : Springer. - 1874-7884 .- 1874-7876. ; 2:3, s. 101-120
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Due to ageing populations and a future shortage of labour active people, there is a political ambition to prolong people’s work force activities in Europe. The question of this paper is to what degree policy changes aimed at prolonging people’s working lives have been successful in influencing peoples’ commitment to paid work during the studied period of time? The age patterns of non-financial employment commitment (EC) and organisational Commitment (OC) are examined from the perspective of policy changes in four European countries, using ISSP-data collected in 1997 and 2005 from Denmark, Great Britain, Hungary and Sweden. Because of hypothesised country and group differences in visibility and proximity of policy measures taken to increase labour market participation among older workers, Danish and Swedish people were expected to display some degree of general and intended attitudinal response to the policy changes and that the British and Hungarian response would be more gender divided. The results showed that policy changes overall had little intended effect on people’s attitudes to work. Instead, EC dropped dramatically in Hungary for all men from the age of 30 and over, and for Swedish men and Danish women in the 45–53 age group. OC decreased for Swedish men in the age 54 and over, and for Danish women in the 45–53 age group. The main exceptions were British and Hungarian women that displayed unchanged or even an increase in EC in the age group 54 and over.

  • Attitudes towards mental illness among health care students at Swedish universities : a follow-up study after completed clinical placement
  • 2009
  • In: Nurse Education Today. - : Elsevier Sciencedirect. - 0260-6917 .- 1532-2793. ; 29:6, s. 660-665
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to examine the changes in attitudes towards mental illness after theorethical education and clinical placement among students from university programmes preparing for different kinds of health professions. Three different questionnaries were used, measuring the level of familaritiy with mental illness and attitudes towards mental illness in general and toward specific mental illnesses. The data were collected on two occasions, before the theorethical course and after the completed clinical placement. The result showed that the attitudes toward mental illnes in general had changed in a less stigmatising direction after the clinical placement. On the other hand, attitudes toward specific illnesses did not show any major changes.
