  • Future directions of marketing knowledge : proposing an enriching framework including self-actualisation marketing
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Electronic Customer Relationship Management. - Geneve : Inderscience Publishers. - 1750-0664 .- 1750-0672. ; 3:4, s. 327-343
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper aims to review schools and frameworks of marketing knowledge in order to propose future directions of marketing knowledge. The authors also provide a brief retrospective view of the marketing discipline. Reflecting over the origin, evolution and current status, the authors have come to distinguish three cornerstones of marketing knowledge namely objective, process and subjective. On this basis, five potential steps in the development of marketing knowledge are identified. The paper draws attention to the areas: the entrance of marketers, the levels of marketing knowledge, the introduction of self-actualisation marketing, the effect of time and complexity on marketing knowledge, and the need for syntheses and generalisations of marketing knowledge. A framework for enriching the field of marketing with these five interrelated paths of development is proposed. Finally, it provides a model of proposition to future marketing knowledge.

  • A longitudinal study of the commitment to business ethics of corporate Australia
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business. - Geneva : InderScience Publishers. - 1476-1297 .- 1741-8054. ; 6:1, s. 173-184
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper compares the results of a longitudinal study of ten years, conducted at five yearly intervals, from 1995 to 2005. The aim of the study was to examine the commitment to business ethics of the top 500 Australian companies. Primary data was obtained via a self-administered mail questionnaire distributed to a census of the top 500 Australian companies. This paper examines those responses that indicated that their company possessed a code of ethics. The paper finds that business ethics has continued to evolve and that, in most cases, such evolution has been positive. It would seem that codes of ethics have moved beyond a regulatory requirement and are now considered an integral component of corporate culture and commercial practice in many of Australia's top companies.

  • Corporate strategy and the environment : fit through teleological approaches
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Business Excellence. - Olney : InderScience Publishers. - 1756-0047 .- 1756-0055. ; 6:5, s. 572-583
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Complexity-based approaches to corporate strategy are particularly important in times of extensive environmental uncertainty where previous corporate predictions and forecasts regarding environmental changes frequently turn out to be invalid. The purpose of the article is to develop a framework that integrates corporate strategy and complexity-based teleological approaches. The framework is accompanied by propositions that contribute to literature by showing what teleological approaches are consistent within different corporate strategies and environmental settings. The propositions represent ways of achieving a fit between the number of freedom degrees in corporate strategy formulation and the level of environmental uncertainty. The application of teleological approaches in the context of corporate strategy generates additional and valuable insights to both theory and practice.

  • Supply Chain Management Ethics : Conceptual Framework and Illustration
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Supply chain management. - Bingley : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1359-8546 .- 1758-6852. ; 13:6, s. 398-405
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe a conceptual framework of Supply Chain Management Ethics (SCM-ethics). Design/methodology/approach – The research is based upon a qualitative approach using a series of semi-structured interviews. Multiple perspectives and respondents have been applied in the data collection process. The study is limited to the Swedish vehicle industry. Findings – The empirical findings indicate that the corporate focus of SCM-ethics is in part narrow in the Swedish vehicle industry. The partial focus may endanger the corporate ethical performance in the long run, while the immediate one may not be affected. Research limitations/implications – The approach undertaken and thereof empirical limitations restrict the generality of findings. However, a structure of operationalisation of SCM-ethics is introduced. It is based upon four orientations and nine areas of questions, all of which serve as a fundament for further research. Practical implications – The article explores the common grounds, and provides initial insights into the complex and multifaceted field, of SCM-ethics. It may be used for teaching, training and analytical purposes. It may also be used for further managerial exploration and replication of SCM-ethics in business. Originality/value – The principal contributions are a conceptual framework based upon four distinctive orientations and a set of summarized interview series in the context of SCM-ethics, all of which may be of interest to both practitioners and scholars.

  • Implementation, communication and the benefits of corporate codes of ethics in Taiwan and Turkey : A comparison across contexts
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: European Business Review. - Bingley : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0955-534X .- 1758-7107. ; 21:3, s. 278-298
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the corporate codes of ethics (CCE) that are put in place by companies in Taiwan and Turkey.Design/methodology/approach – This study examines the use of CCE among the top companies in Taiwan and Turkey. It is a replication of a study performed in Australia, Canada and Sweden and a follow-up study.Findings – The empirical findings show many similarities with top companies in Australia, Canada and Sweden, but more importantly identify key differences distinctly unique to each of the two countries under investigation. Statistical analysis suggests that the implementation, communication and benefits of CCE are paramount to Turkish companies operating in a domestic environment where the aspiration to participate globally and join the European Union is high, whereas in Taiwan it is low in favor of more traditional business practices (similar to the Chinese concept of guanxi) that focus on individual relationships in favor of formalized regulatory frameworks (such as CCE).Originality/value – This study makes a complementary contribution to the accumulated knowledge in the area of CCE, particularly given the cultural and historical differences these countries possess in comparison to each other and those previously studied and documented in the literature.

  • Organizations that are international from inception : Terminology and research constellations – “academic protectionism” or “academic myopia”?
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development. - Bingley : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1462-6004 .- 1758-7840. ; 16:3, s. 406-417
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review the terminology used by various constellations of researchers concerning the formation of organizations that are international from inception, present conceptual and definitional attributes of the phenomena of interest, and propose common terminology, and conceptual framework to use in the future. Design/methodology/approach – A literature review is undertaken that compares research terminology used by different streams of research and different constellations of researchers referring to a new organization that intends be international from the beginning of its creation. Findings – Two principal findings may be stressed: there are constellations of labels used to describe essentially the same phenomena of organizations that are international at their inception, and there are constellations of researchers that use their own unique labels in this field. Provocatively, the authors question whether these findings are due to “academic protectionism” between the constellations or “academic myopia” (i.e. inability to appreciate the literature's terminology between constellations). It is proposed that the terms used in this field of research should be collapsed into another recent concept introduced and defined in literature, namely “early internationalizing firms.” Research limitations/implications – A conceptual framework of “early internationalizing firms” is outlined. It suggests this concept is more beneficial and appropriate than the concepts using traditional terminology such as: “international new ventures” and “born globals.” It is argued that the “early internationalizing firms” concept is more descriptive of the actual phenomena and explicitly considers the crucial short timeframe involved in the process of internationalization of firms.Practical implications – The label “early internationalizing firms” may be easier to communicate in practice than some of the current labels used in literature. It emphasizes the practical imperatives of simultaneous localization and globalization, and planning at several levels (i.e. operative, tactical, and strategic levels) in a short timeframe. Originality/value – The paper suggests that “early internationalizing firms” is more descriptive of the phenomena of interest and should be used in the field. It contributes to the literature by presenting a broadened more useful framework in describing the phenomena of interest. In specific, it takes into account short timeframes and both the globalization and localization aspects of the phenomena. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

  • Scholarly journal ranking(s) in marketing : single- or multi-item measures?
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Marketing Intelligence & Planning. - Bingley : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0263-4503 .- 1758-8049. ; 26:4, s. 340-352
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The topic of scholarly journals is important to the marketing discipline and the worldwide research communities, due to the way the journals are categorized and judged in available and compiled journal rankings. The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss the underlying measures of journal rankings in scholarly journals in marketing. Design/methodology/approach – It is limited to the scholarly journals and journal rankings of the marketing discipline. Findings – Journal rankings of scholarly journals in marketing are mainly based upon single-item measures based upon either citations or perceptions, without any estimates of validity, reliability or generality. Research limitations/implications – There is a need to move away from the predominantly “single-item measure syndrome” that characterizes most of the available and compiled journal rankings in marketing. Practical implications – Broader approaches should be implemented and applied in journal rankings based upon “multi-item measures”. Originality/value – Re-assessment of the activity of ranking journals is long overdue if the ranking lists themselves do not consider a minimum of scientific rigor and soundness as required in other areas of scholarly endeavours. The marketing discipline may be at risk of entering a vicious and irreversible circle of decline and decomposition.

  • ‘Antecedents’ and ‘postcedents’ in Relation to satisfaction in Norwegian business relationships
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of procurement management. - Olney : InderScience Publishers. - 1753-8432 .- 1753-8440. ; 8:5, s. 627-642
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study tests whether satisfaction plays an important role as mediator between trust and commitment, and coordination, cooperation and continuity expectance in manufacturer-supplier relationships in Norway. Management in a sample of the 500 largest manufacturer companies was approached by phone to identify key informants and surveys mailed to them. 193 usable questionnaires were received corresponding to a response rate of 38.6%. The results were analysed by structural equation modelling, using SPSS/AMOS 17.0 software. The findings support fairly well the conceptual model tested; trust relates positively to commitment and satisfaction; satisfaction, in turn, relates positively to coordination, cooperation and continuity expectance. However, commitment fails to show any significant relationship with satisfaction. This study makes an important contribution to management and future research about balancing the nomological network of quality constructs in manufacturer-supplier relationships. Results support the major impact trust may have on satisfactory relationships and the importance of satisfaction when establishing well-working governance mechanisms towards gaining enduring relationships.

  • Risk Identification in the Infrastructure Construction Industry : A Supply Chain Case Study
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Logistics Economics and Globalisation. - Olney, Bucks : InderScience Publishers. - 1741-5373 .- 1741-5381. ; 1:3–4, s. 343-356
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of this article is to describe the risk identification within a supply chain of an infrastructure construction project. This research is based on a case study of risk management within a supply chain in the infrastructure construction industry. Data have been collected from an international company emphasising the stage of risk identification. A particular view of risk management has been adopted. More specifically, a way to identify risk within the construction industry has been given. Technical and operational evidences have been revised and organised in order to take a first step in the direction of a systematic treatment. It has highlighted some crucial issues dealing with risk identification, while risk assessment and risk response provide an opportunity for further research. The article has underlined how risk management can be seen as the way to discover existing risks that are preventing firms from advancing their strategy. Main insights that emerged dealt with five categories: strategic objectives; critical success factors; environment and stakeholder influences; key performance indicators and principal risks; principal risk response strategies.
