  • China's aircraft industry: collaboration and technology transfer - the case of Airbus
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation (IJTTC). - : Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 9:4, s. 306-325
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • China has moved a long way in economic and industrial development during the last decades and has developed into a global player in many industries. With increased knowledge in high-technology industries, China has ambitions to move into sectors that necessitate a high level of research and development, such as the aerospace industry. China is now in the process of establishing a modern aircraft industry based on domestic efforts as well as agreements with foreign partners in the manufacturing of complete aircraft. This paper analyzes what measures have been taken by Airbus in the form of technology transfer and other supportive measures to strengthen its position in the Chinese market. The findings conclude that Airbus’ transfer should be looked upon as a broad spectrum of technology and knowledge transfer, which include aircraft manufacturing technology, as well as cabin crew training centre, establishment of a warehouse and suppliers ”village”, an engineering centre, maintenance and various service functions.

  • In the name of women? : Feminist readings of policies for women's entrepreneurship in Scandinavia
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Management. - : Elsevier. - 0956-5221 .- 1873-3387. ; 33:1, s. 50-63
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Policy actors seeking to stimulate entrepreneurship sometimes give special attention to women. It is not given, however, that policy initiatives for women entrepreneurs necessarily contribute to gender equality, to social change for women - such as enhancing entrepreneurship as a means to women's wellbeing and financial or other independence - or to gendered change of society. We claim that the outcomes depend on the premises behind the policies. The purpose of this paper is to conduct an analysis of the feminist approaches that are taken in policies for women's entrepreneurship in the Scandinavian countries. We analyse how these policies argue for women's entrepreneurship, how they position women, and what assumptions they hold with respect to women and their businesses. We analyse and compare state-level polices that have been implemented by the national governments in three Scandinavian countries; Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, during the period 2005-2015. A comprehensive analytical tool, building on six different feminist theoretical approaches, is developed. We find that, even if a liberal feminist perspective is present, along with elements of other feminist approaches, polices give precedence to economic growth in a non-feminist fashion. Over time, economic growth becomes the key focus, while feminist approaches are silenced. We observe that, in the name of supporting women, the actual aim of policies for women entrepreneurs often seems to be economic growth, and women are seen merely as an untapped, and yet not fully adequate, resource. • Turnover and heterogeneity in top management networks : a demographic analysis of two Swedish business groups
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Business Science and Applied Management. - Newcastle upon Tyne, UK : Brunel University. - 1753-0296. ; 3:3, s. 31-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A theory based on the demography of top management teams is used to explain membership turnover in two Swedish business groups, network analysis being used to define group membership. The results suggest these business groups possess a combination of financial and industrial experience as a group resource and the socialising strategy of control as a force counteracting the conflict-producing force of heterogeneity. An organisational demographic perspective focusing on opposing forces of heterogeneity and homogeneity is developed. It is shown that the perspective can be applied both to formal organisations and to informal ones such as networks.

  • Cluster creation and innovation within an emerging Taiwanese high-tech sector
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 5:3, s. 208-236
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper investigates in what way and to what extent Taiwan has been able to develop a commercial aerospace industry and the formation of an internationally competitive supplier system, i.e. high-tech cluster. The development of such an industry has been much more difficult than expected. Since the late 1990s there have been signs that a supplier system is under development, but there are great challenges ahead, amid a fierce international competition.

  • Banks' risk assessment of Swedish SMEs
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Venture Capital - An International Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance. - : Routledge, part of the Taylor & Francis Group. - 1464-5343. ; 10:2, s. 171-194
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Building on the literatures on asymmetric information and risk taking, this paper applies conjoint experiments to investigate lending officers' probabilities of supporting credit to established or existing SMEs. Using a sample of 114 Swedish lending officers, we test hypotheses concerning how information on the borrower's aility to repay the loan; alignment of risk preferences; and risk sharing affect their willingness to grant credit. Results suggest that features that reduce the risk to the bank and shift the tisk to the borrower have the largest impact. The paper highlieghts the interaction between factors that influence the credit decision. Implications for SMEs, banks and research are discussed.

  • The impact of increases in subsidiary autonomy and network relationships on performance
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: International Business Review. - : Elsevier. - 0969-5931 .- 1873-6149. ; 21:6, s. 1158-1172
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper uses network approaches to subsidiary theory to investigate the performance impacts of interactions among the factors of autonomy, intra-organizational network relationships, and inter-organizational network relationships. The paper offers an analysis of both direct and indirect interactions among these factors. This study develops and extends existing research that uses network-based approaches in studies of subsidiary performance by considering the roles of autonomy and network relationships. In addition, the study examines changes in terms of increases in the interactions between the main factors rather than the levels of these factors. The examination of the interactions between increases in autonomy and networks and the subsequent impact of this change on performance contributes to a better understanding of subsidiary evolution. The results, which are based on data gathered from a survey of 350 foreign-owned subsidiaries in the UK, Germany, and Denmark, reveal complex interactions between increases in autonomy and network relationships, and the subsequent impact of these changes on performance. The results also highlight the central role of inter-organizational network relationships in the interaction between the factors, which produce significant and positive effects.

  • The consumer's changing role : The case of recycling
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Management of environmental quality. - : Emerald. - 1477-7835 .- 1758-6119. ; 16:1, s. 77-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - The emerging material flows of recycled goods have effects on roles, responsibilities and positions of a range of industrial actors, but also on the consumer as a part of the industrial recycling process. The purpose of the paper is to discuss the changing role and position of the final-product customer, the consumer, as recycling is introduced into the supply chain. Design/methodology/approach - This is a conceptual paper, building on theory and concepts from literature on marketing channels, industrial actors and material flows. Those concepts were developed basically for traditional forward material flows, while recycling complicates their application and further development. Findings - Through recycling the consumer is given a new role, as a supplier, however, not as a seller in traditional terms. This new nature of its role complicates the conception of the consumer's position, vis-à-vis the recycler. It also addresses the consumer seen as an economic entity vis-à-vis other actors. Originality/value - Including recycling in the concept of material flow structures and the consumer as an actor in industrial processes becomes more and more vital, both for theory development where this is still novel, and for practice, as the mechanisms of recycling and consumer behaviour need to be better described and understood for both industry and authorities.
