  • Ett rättsligt perspektiv på övervakningstrenden: Datalagringsdirektivets underkännande
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: DigiTrust: Tillit i det digitala. Tvärvetenskapliga perspektiv från ett forskningsprojekt. - 9789197989367 ; , s. 69-76

  • The liability of politicalness : Legitimacy and legality in piracy-proximate entrepreneurship
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business. - : InderScience Publishers. - 1476-1297 .- 1741-8054. ; 22:4, s. 408-425
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article explores three entrepreneurial ventures that have evolved in proximity to online piracy. In reviewing the respective cases of Spotify, Skype, and The Pirate Bay, the argument outlines the radically divergent strategies with which the entrepreneurs have sought to legitimise their ventures and underlying technologies. The article concludes that: 1) the context of practices labelled ‘pirate’ are paradigmatic examples of fields in which entrepreneurs must work exceptionally hard to legitimise themselves; 2) in this context, it is crucial that the role of law is analytically isolated from the role of institutionalised legitimacy; 3) success in legitimisation is largely dependent upon the entrepreneur’s ability to demonstrate that the venture is governed by ‘the natural order’ of the economy. It is further argued that piracy-proximate ventures may contribute to the entrepreneurship field, inasmuch as they teeter on the border of being considered too disruptive, and thus suffer from a ‘liability of politicalness’.

  • Smart City Governance - AI Ethics in a Spatial Context : Select papers from 2021/2022
  • 2022
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This brief anthology presents the basics of the interdisciplinary course called “Smart City Governance – AI Ethics in a Spatial Context”, given at Lund University. Furthermore, it includes three papers and a task written by students from the class of 2021/2022 in order to show examples of the topics possible to analyse when combining engineering students from programmes on data, ICT and land surveying with students from the humanities or social sciences.Head of course is Stefan Larsson, Associate Professor at the Department of Technology and Society at LTH, Lund University. As a socio-legal scholar and lawyer at a faculty of engineering, he leads a group studying governance and issues of trust and transparency with autonomous and AI-driven technologies in domains ranging from the public sector to consumer markets, medicine and social robotics.Laetitia Tanqueray is a Teaching Assistant on this course, and canvas coordinator. Laetitia holds bachelors’ in English Law and French Law and a master’s in Sociology of Law. She is a project assistant at the Department of Technology and Society at LTH, Lund University, investigating questions related to socio-legal robotics.

  • Artificial intelligence in the information ecosystem: affordances for everyday information seeking
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology. - 2330-1635. ; , s. 1-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this conceptual article, we argue that artificial intelligence (AI) systems are contributing to the generation of an environment of affordances for everyday information practices through which they exert influence on people and the planet in ways that often are left unrecognised. We illustrate our insights by focusing on the practices of information seeking in everyday life, suggesting that the affordances of AI systems integrated into search engines, social media platforms, streaming services, and media generation, shape such practices. This shaping may, paradoxically, result both in the increase and reduction of diversity of and access to information. We discuss the potential implications of these developments in terms of the sustainability of information ecosystems and suggest solutions for addressing them through regulation and education. Drawing from the fields of library and information science and science and technology studies and research on affordances, everyday information practices, and sustainability, the article seeks to respond to the need for more nuanced theoretical insights on the impact and implications of AI on information practices and to develop conceptual tools with which to examine the co-evolution of humans and information systems from a systemic perspective.

  • AI and Patients’ Rights : Transparency and information flows as situated principles in public health care
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: De Lege – Yearbook Uppsala Faculty of Law 2021 : Law, AI & Digitalization - Law, AI & Digitalization. - 1102-3317. - 9789177371670 ; 2021, s. 401-429
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The development of artificial intelligence (AI) for medicine and health care is rapidly evolving. However, the automation, scale and data dependency of AI-driven decision-making and decision-support calls for a reassessment of principal ethical and legal norms of transparency, in the light of these novel methodologies. The quality of AI-driven health care, we argue, is depending on it. In this chapter, we provide an overview of novelties that AI in health care bring about, in order to identify key aspects potentially affecting current legal and normative (medical ethical) principles related to transparency and explainability. We develop a conceptual framework on transparency in general and explainability in particular, in relation to AI in health care. Further, we analyse principal and normative legal frameworks of patients’ rights relating to transparency and explainability – e.g., right to information, autonomy and privacy – within Sweden and the EU. Doing so, we outline main challenges in the implementation of AI in, primarily public, health care. We argue that there is an interdependency between health care quality and transparency. As transparency is not a binary state, but something that is situated in information practices, it is important to consider what kind of transparency is needed to safeguard the best possible health care. We find that meaningful and contextual transparency and explainability of AI-systems and methodologies is necessary to adhere to the basic principles of normative and legal frameworks of Swedish health care, including patient autonomy. In addition, meaningful and contextual transparency is also a prerequisite for assessing if the best possible care is given to the one most in need.

  • Consumer Credit Behavior in the Digital Context : A Bibliometric Analysis and Literature Review
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Financial Counceling and Planning. - : Springer Publishing Company. - 1052-3073 .- 1947-7910. ; 28:1, s. 76-94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This literature review seeks to map the state of research on the effects of digitization on personal financial behavior and management through a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review. The findings indicate that current knowledge is primarily based on perspectives of actors in commerce and systems development. More research is needed on how personal financial behavior change in relation to digital technology, the vulnerability of children and adolescents, and the links between changes in credit behavior and indebtedness. Financial counseling could benefit from an awareness of young adults vulnerability as digital consumers and an extended perception of financial literacy that encompasses requirements of digital society. Policymakers need to be aware of the consequences of digital measurability.
