  • Expanding the HCI Agenda in Healthcare
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 IEEE 27th International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems. - : IEEE. - 9781479944354 ; , s. 382-385
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Designing technology for use in healthcare, and its evaluation in the healthcare setting, deserves special attention because of the nature of the special context of use. Biological hazards and the risk of infection, issues of privacy and security, system response times, as well as human factors and patient safety are identified as areas deserving of special attention. We give examples and quote from clinician interviews for illustration, and we argue that increased focus from the HCI community on these areas will bring tangible benefits of health information systems to healthcare staff, and ultimately improve patient services.

  • Management of Information Systems Outsourcing : Evaluation of Lessons Learned from a Boundary Spanning Perspective
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Electronic Journal of Information Systems Evaluation. - Reading, UK : Academic Publishing International. - 1566-6379. ; 15:1, s. 63-73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Even if outsourcing is a well-researched phenomenon, it can be stated that evaluation studies on IS outsourcing relationships are scarce. From a description of two IS outsourcing relationship cases, a set of lessons learned are presented. A boundary spanning perspective is then used when evaluating these lessons learned in the client-supplier outsourcing relationships and thereby adding a “new” theoretical perspective on outsourcing relationships. The evaluation is concluded in a set of propositions that present the boundary spanning perspective of the lessons learned. The aim of these propositions is to act as both a guiding tool for how to further develop boundary spanning roles in outsourcing relationships and to act as a base for future research on outsourcing relationships.

  • Management of Information Systems Outsourcing: Challenges and Lessons Learned
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing].
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To be successful in Information Systems (IS) outsourcing the necessity of better management practices has been pointed out. This research contributes to the knowledge base on management of IS outsourcing by addressing management of IS outsourcing relationships. The research describes two cases of IS outsourcing relationships that differ in type of activity outsourced, IS development versus IS maintenance and operation, and relationship composition. From the cases lessons learnt are identified which with support from IS outsourcing literature are proposed as propositions for management of IS outsourcing. It can be concluded that if the propositions, related to negotiation, communication and way of working, are adopted in an early stage they could contribute to successful IS outsourcing relationships. Another conclusion is that the IS outsourcing management approach should not differ between type of IS activity outsourced, but rather reflect the nature of the IS activity; if it is a simple or complex activity

  • Multidisciplinary Work Practices : A Comparison of Three Major European Hospitals
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 IEEE 27th International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems. - : IEEE. - 9781479944354 ; , s. 369-375
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reviews the practices of multidisciplinary teamwork (MDT) for cancer care in three large teaching hospitals in separate jurisdictions. Ethnographic observations provide the main source of data, which are verified though interviews, and in some cases by surveys and analysis of video recordings. We demonstrate how MDT practices develop among different groups, and in different jurisdictions. Common practices are identified and differences explained. Work practice analysis is an integral part of our research, and this study provides insights into medical teamwork and decision-making.

  • Semantically Integrated Conceptual Modeling Method and Modeling Patterns
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Systems and Software Development, Modeling and Analysis. - USA : IGI Global. ; , s. 1-33
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Managing evolutionary changes, identification of discontinuities and separation of concerns is not an easy task in the area conceptual modeling in information system development. One of the fundamental problems is that most conventional conceptual modeling techniques deal with the collections of loosely linked meta-models, which are defined by the different types of diagrams. Typically, system development methods project interactive, behavioral and structural aspects of information systems conceptual representations into disparate views. Therefore, the semantic integrity of various architecture dimensions is difficult to achieve. In this paper we present semantically integrated conceptual modeling method. The advantage of this method is stability and flexibility of the diagrams to manage the constant changes of system requirements. This method provides possibility to visualize the interplay among structural, interactive and behavioral aspects. This is very important for the control of semantic integrity and to maintain a holistic representation, where external and internal views of service conceptualizations are visualized together. Such visualization is also important for separation of concerns which provides foundation for creation of modeling patterns. Modeling patterns are important for several reasons. First, they can be used for demonstration of the interplay of fundamental constructs that are used for system analysis and design. Secondly, modeling patterns are important for the evaluation of the expressive power of semantic modeling languages. It is demonstrated by case study examples that sequential, underlying, enclosing, overriding and overlaying interaction loops between actors provide the foundation for the composition of complex scenarios, which are spanning across organizational and technical system boundaries.

  • A capability perspective on service business development in small and medium-sized suppliers
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Management. - Oxon, UK : Elsevier. - 0956-5221 .- 1873-3387. ; 28:4, s. 321-339
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Existing research suggests three theoretical pathways for service business development. The first pathway involves incremental enhancement of relational value for existing supplier–buyer relationships (Alpha). The second pathway captures financial value-seeking behavior in existing and new supplier–buyer relationships (Beta). The third pathway is a radical leap toward a new value constellation downstream in the value chain (Gamma). Our main research question aims at the exploration of these three pathways with respect to small and medium-sized suppliers. The research design is based on an exploratory study and an in-depth study. The exploratory study was able to replicate these three pathways in the empirical context of small and medium-sized suppliers. The in-depth study explores and describes co-evolvement of the dynamic and operational capabilities of each pathway. The results provide testable propositions that can be used to guide future research. The paper offers a comprehensive framework that will assist researchers in the conceptualization of paths for service business development and in the operationalization of capabilities. For managers, its value lies in a description of the capabilities needed to achieve an incremental enhancement of relational value in existing supplier–buyer relationships (Alpha), financial value-seeking behavior in existing and new supplier–buyer relationships (Beta), and radical leaps into new value constellations downstream in the value chain (Gamma).

  • Users as Prosumers of PETs : The Challenge of Involving Users in the Creation of Privacy Enhancing Technologies
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Frameworks of IT Prosumption for Business Development. - : IGI Global. - 9781466643130 ; , s. 178-199
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Frequent contact with online businesses requires Internet users to distribute large amounts of personal information. This spreading of users’ information through different Websites can eventually lead to increased probabilities for identity theft, profiling and linkability attacks, as well as other harmful consequences. Methods and tools for securing people’s online activities and protecting their privacy on the Internet, called Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), are being designed and developed. However, these technologies are often perceived as complicated and obtrusive by users who are not privacy aware or are not computer or technology savvy. This chapter explores the way in which users’ involvement has been considered during the development process of PETs and argues that more democratic approaches of user involvement and data handling practices are needed. It advocates towards an approach in which people are not only seen as consumers of privacy and security technologies, but where they can play a role as the producers of ideas and sources of inspiration for the development of usable PETs that meet their actual privacy needs and concerns.

  • What Would It Take for You to Tell Your Secrets to a Cloud? : Studying decision factors when disclosing information to cloud services
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Secure IT Systems. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319115993 ; , s. 129-145
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the end users’ behaviours and attitudes with regards to the control they place in the personal information that they disclose to cloud storage services. Three controlled experiments were carried out to study the influence in users’ decisions to retain or surrender control over their personal information depending on different factors. The results of these experiments reveal, among other things, the users’ willingness to surrender control over personal information that is perceived as non-sensitive in exchange for valuable rewards, and that users would value the possibility of knowing and controlling the parties who are granted access to their data in the cloud. Based on the results from the experiments we provide implications for the design of end-user tools that can promote transparency and accountability in cloud computing environments.

  • A Process Oriented User Test on Public e-Services : The Swedish Municipality Case
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 8th European Conference on IS Management and Evaluation – ECIME 2014 held at the University of Ghent, Ghent, Belguim. - : Academic Conferences Limited. - 9781910309414 - 9781510602762 ; , s. 39-48
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper elaborates on the potential to design and conduct process-oriented user tests on public e-Services. The purpose is to use key constructs of business process orientation (BPO) to develop a basis for design and communicating the value of user tests in a public e-Service context. Our hypotheses are that user tests can provide valuable results for all actors involved in e-Service development, not only in terms of how to conduct user tests per se, but also to provide incentives for a customer driven focus and highlighting the value derived from user tests. In the municipality case, actors and stakeholders are involved municipalities in an inter-organisational collaboration on e-Service development, i.e. different municipalities, locally and regionally, as well as the supplier.  Citizens partaking in a university course conduct the user tests with the eye tracking technology. In total 71 users performed in test sessions on 11 different e-Services in a standard platform provided by one supplier. In this paper, we elaborate on a BPO test design based on basic constructs in the approach compared with findings from reconstructing the test process design used with an implicit approach 2012 and an explicit BPO approach in 2013. Contributions include a generic test-process design for data collection, analysis and delivery to stakeholders in an overall e-Service development. Furthermore, findings from our test sessions and test process design will inspire and guide other universities to collaborate with practitioners. Beside the strength with a real case for the students, user test sessions in collaboration can be an eye-opener to not only for municipalities but also suppliers. Thus, the potential for impacts from test results to be applied in the further development of e-Services has thereby increased.
