- This article attempts to elaborate on the scholarly discourse about normalisation in disability care. More specifically, the problem of imitation is addressed. The aim is to cast light on the tension between artificially created, “authentic” reality in activities that try to achieve nor-malisation for people with disability. The discussion is carried out by using examples from theatre for people with mental disability and home care for people with long-term mental ill-ness.Disability care in Swedish municipalities is described in terms of institutional logic. The logic of care is characterised by three sets of elements: regulative elements are made up of legislation, policy guidelines and organisational framework; normative elements like integra-tion and participation are grounded in national disability policy; cognitive elements are taken-for-granted values held by actors on the disability field, e.g. the value of work, not staying up all night, etc.When professionals undertake normalising activities, the logic of care is welded with a logic of everyday life. The underlying assumption appears to be that users benefit from lead-ing a life as similar to what is considered as normal as possible. The article probes deeper into two such logics, the logic of theatre and the logic of home. The logic of theatre stresses the artistic and creative elements of the work with disabled clients, which creates the opportunity to achieve alternative identities for users. The logic of home involves values such as a sense of control, the home as conveyor of identity, and providing a setting for important relations.Both theatre and home care involve institutional ambiguities. When welfare institutions attempt to imitate authentic everyday life, the assumption is that this would bring about posi-tive effects for clients. However, it is difficult to create this kind of authenticity within the therapeutic context of disability care – clients and outsiders are likely to see through the artifi-cial design of the situation. Occasionally, though, magic moments may occur when clients and staff engage in genuine activities that transcend the therapeutic purpose.However, given Giddens’ conception of late modernity, the problem of imitation may ap-pear less problematic. The design of normal-appearing environments in disability care seems to be similar to and no-less artificial than what is the case with normal people, in an age where individuals increasingly tend to reflexively create their identities.

Invocation of coercion context in compliance communication : power dynamics in psychiatric care

- This article draws on observations from ethnographic fieldwork to develop a theoretical understanding of the power dynamics in psychiatric care. The aim is to analyze how psychiatric clinicians solve compliance problems by invoking "coercion context".It is suggested that clinicians take a rather instrumental approach to laws regulating coercive intervention. Clinicians may invoke a coercion context even with voluntary patients. For example, they may use wordings that connote coercion, or they may make use of how treatment wards are set up to accommodate involuntary patients, thus stalling voluntary patients who cannot exit through locked doors. A coercion context can also be invoked to solve mundane practical problems, e.g. when clinicians talk about "coerced showers". The management of information and maintaining a suitable "awareness context"with regards to coercion is an essential feature in clinical attempts to achieve compliance from patients.In conclusion, the notion of coercion context helps explain the confusing findings from previous research about patients' apparent misconceptions of their formal legal status. Furthermore, it is argued that research that rely on decontextualised, objectifications of "coercion" risk to miss the meaning coercion is assigned in everyday clinical practice.

- Last years' reforms affected in an extremely different way the Swedish and the Italian elderly care systems, even if these reforms had been apparently inspired by the same "watchwords". In the article the comparison of the effects of these reforms assumes a "broad" definition of care: the reciprocal interrelations between market, state and family are underlined together with their transformations caused by the introduction of the recent reforms. In the 90s the Italian and the Swedish welfare state experienced a further step towards the decentralization of responsibilities on elderly care: in both countries responsibilities for the provision of home care services have been transferred to the municipalities. In the same time, both countries experienced a trend towards the marketization and the informalization of elderly care with a growing importance of private and non profit providers and of family solidarities. However, even after the introduction of these reforms, a substantial confirmation of the differences between the "family ideologies" that historically distinguished the Swedish and Italian welfare states can still be found rather than an evidence of a convergence of their elderly care systems.

Barn och ungdomar som lever med skyddade personuppgifter

- Det finns i dag 4 276 flickor och pojkar under 18 år (2008-09-29) som lever med skyddade personuppgifter i Sverige. De gör det för att de behöver skyddas mot någon person. Det kan vara pappa, styvpappa, eller någon annan vuxen person. Oftast lever de tillsammans med sin mamma och har tvingats bevittna misshandel i sitt hem. Barnen finns omkring oss i samhället, i förskolan och skolan där det t.ex. kan innebära att de inte kan finnas med på klasslistor eller skolfoton.Stiftelsen Allmänna Barnhuset beviljade under åren 2003–2006 medel till ett forskningsprojekt för att få mer kunskap om dessa barn. Projektet utmynnade i rapporten G(l)ömda – en studie om barn med skyddade personuppgifter. Rapporten är utgiven vid Umeå universitet (2007) och skriven av Katarina Weinehall, Marie-Louise Jonsson, Mona Eliasson och Mona Olausson. Resultatet presenterades vid ett seminarium anordnat av Barnhuset med inbjudna deltagare från myndigheter, departement och organisationer som arbetar med barnfrågor. På seminariet konstaterades att detta är en grupp barn som inte uppmärksammas tillräckligt och att det behövs mer kunskap bland alla aktörer som finns runt dessa barn.Barnhuset har gått vidare i arbetet med att öka kunskapen om bl.a. problemets utbredning och hantering och uppdrog åt Barbro Hindberg att göra en sammanställning av hur man uppmärksammar och stödjer dessa barn inom berörda myndigheter och organisationer, vad som saknas och hur barnens behov av stöd och hjälp ser ut. Ett flertal olika aktörer har intervjuats och arbetet har resulterat i denna bok.I boken beskrivs att barn och ungdomar som lever med skyddade personuppgifter har en mycket svår situation och att det finns risk för att deras hälsa och utveckling hotas. I dag fattas beslut om skyddade personuppgifter utan medverkan av någon myndighet med barnkompetens. Inte heller beaktas FN:s konvention om barnets rättigheter med barnets bästa i fokus och barnets rätt att själv få uttrycka sin mening. Det blir tydligt att det finns behov av att frågan ses över och lagregleras.Antalet barn och ungdomar som lever med skyddade personuppgifter ökar med cirka 6 procent per år. Redan nu är antalet så stort att om man fördelar dem på landets kommuner skulle varje kommun kunna ha en stödgrupp (15 st) för dessa barn!Boken vänder sig till alla som i sitt arbete kommer i kontakt med barn och ungdomar, speciellt till aktörer som exempelvis skatteverket, försäkringskassan, socialtjänsten, förskola/skola, barn- och ungdomspsykiatri, polis, Sveriges kommuner och landsting. Barnhuset hoppas att boken ska öka kunskapen och medvetenheten om dessa barn och stimulera till lokalt utvecklingsarbete.

- Freed from the bonds of traditional gendered norms, responsibilities and obligations, it has been argued that negotiation is a key concept for understanding how modern couples organize their common life together. Interviews with Swedish couples cause us to question this assumption. In this article we argue that negotiations are relatively unusual in couple relationships. We found that couples seldom experience the reason, room space or need to negotiate. This can in part be understood from the perspective of seeing everyday life as a matter of practical coordination, i.e. as something we strive to master rather than something we try to change or critically reflect upon. We found that routines and rituals were a guiding force in how couples organize their everyday lives. “Doing gender”, “doing couple”, external circumstances and agreement were all central aspects in making the everyday lives of the couples we interviewed work.
