Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- Industrial symbiosis (IS) continues to raise the interest of researchers and practitioners alike. Individual and haphazard attempts to increase linkages among co-located firms have been complemented by concerted efforts to stimulate the development of industrial regions with intensified resource exchanges that reduce environmental impact. Additionally, there are examples of both spontaneous and facilitated linkages between two or more firms involving flows of materials/energy waste. A striking feature of IS activities is that they are found across diverse social contexts and vary considerably in form (Lombardi et al., 2012); there are substantial differences in the ways in which IS manifests itself. Equally diverse are the activities of policy makers to stimulate such linkages. Such diversity can already be found within Europe, as became apparent in a first meeting among some of the present authors in 2009 (Isenmann and Chernykh, 2009). Researchers present there decided to create a network of European researchers on IS, with the explicit aim to develop a comparative analysis. We can thus provide insight to the relationship between the style of IS and its context and thereby the potential for policy makers in different contexts to learn from each other. Policy learning can be a tempting route to IS, but is fraught with difficulties if the influence of context is not appreciated (e.g., Wang et al., Chapter 6, this volume).

Assessment of existing global financial initiatives and monitoring aspects of carbon sinks in forest ecosystems – The issue of REDD
- 2009
-
Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- The objective of this report is to explore the topic of carbon sinks in forest ecosystems, focusing on the issue of REDD. The report covers different angles: i) an overview of existing financial and methodological initiatives that currently invest in preparation and capacity building of potential REDD host countries, but also in REDD pilot projects, ii) the preparedness of potential host countries (Bolivia, Cameroon, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka) to establish baselines and implement a REDD system that contributes to sustainable development, and iii) the funding structure and channels of a major investor country (Norway). The focus of our analysis lies on two REDD-related issues; baseline establishment and sustainable development.

Effects from implementing advanced planning & scheduling systems for supply chain planning
- 2011
-
Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2011 EurOMA conference.
-
Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- The purpose is to analyze the effects from Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) systems for supply chain planning, both in terms of experienced benefits and problems, and the impact of the planning context and implementation approach. The research is based on a multiple case study of five manufacturing firms. It is concluded that the APS implementation focus and APS use impact three effect types differently if applying a process or system focus and more positively if applying an APS lead, compared to lag, approach. It also shows that the organisation, individuals, technology impact the effects, no matter APS implementation focus.

Increasing the value of quality management systems
- 2019
-
Ingår i: Increasing the value of quality management systems.
-
Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- Over one million organisations have a Quality Management System (QMS) certified to the ISO9001 standard; however, the system requires a lot of resources and its value has been questioned. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how different types of uses of QMS correlates with management perceptions of QM in terms of respect, cost, and strategic importance. The paper is based on a survey within eight organisations and shows that a compliance-orientated QMS usage will more likely lead to a view on quality management as costly, and of little respect, than a business-or improvement-oriented QMS usage.

Quality management : an introduction
- 2020. - 1
-
Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- Quality Management. An Introduction is a multi-purpose book designed for both university students and practitioners. In the book, the authors elaborate on the fundamental principles of quality management by connecting it to relevant practices and methods. Why is this book important? Change and improvements, productivity, and focus on customers and other stakeholders are at the top of management agendas. Quality management is about managing change and improvements as well as reaching goals, whatever they may be, as efficiently as possible, and making effective efforts to do so. Scientific methods are the bases for quality management. Furthermore, quality management is a discipline that goes beyond science into the realms of philosophy. It assumes that the changes you seek are improvements, encouraging the idea that the best route is one that leads to improvements not only for yourself but also for other stakeholders. The book focuses on three fundamental themes in quality management: Customer and stakeholder focus, Models and methods for continuous improvements, and Teamwork and organisational aspects of quality management. The book is designed to be supplemented and supported by other in-depth practitioner texts and research articles in various courses in quality management.
