  • Knowledge Management Strategies and Processes in Agile Software Development: A Systematic Literature Review
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering. - : World Scientific. - 0218-1940. ; 29:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Knowledge-intensive companies that adopt Agile Software Development (ASD) rely on efficient implementation of Knowledge Management (KM) strategies to promote different Knowledge Processes (KPs) to gain competitive advantage. This study aims to explore how companies that adopt ASD implement KM strategies utilizing practices that promote the KPs in the different organizational layers. Through a systematic literature review, we analyzed 32 primary studies, selected by automated search and snowballing in the extant literature. To analyze the data, we applied narrative synthesis. Most of the identified KM practices implement personalization strategies (81%), supported by codification (19%). Our review shows that the primary studies do not report KM practices in the strategic layer and two of them in the product portfolio layer; on the other hand, in the project layer, the studies report 33 practices that implement personalization strategy, and seven practices that implement codification. KM strategies in ASD promote mainly the knowledge transfer process with practices that stimulates social interaction to share tacit knowledge in the project layer. As a result of using informal communication, a significant amount of knowledge can be lost or not properly transferred to other individuals and, instead of propagating the knowledge, it remains inside a few individuals' minds.

  • Re-thinking Innovation Measurement to Manage Innovation-Related Dichotomies in Practice
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: proceedings of the Continuous Innovation Network Conference – CINet 2012, Rome, Italy, September 17-18. - Rome, Italy : CINet. ; , s. 886-904
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Innovation performance measurement has developed from focusing on issues of control and monitoring towards a more supportive role for managers on a strategic, informative and motivational level. Despite its potential to facilitate innovation management measuring provides a challenge in practice not the least when a company has the ambition to manage both radical and incremental innovation. This paper, based on literature review with empirical illustrations from three case studies, argues that these issues derives from the need to manage a number of dichotomies which are present due to the essential differences associated to each type of innovation. These dichotomies are related to time, uncertainty, flexibility and control. The implications on the design and use of an innovation performance measurement system are explored and analyzed through the lens of dichotomies. The study contributes to the innovation measurement theory and provides basis for an analytical framework aiming to support the design and implementation of innovation performance measurement in practice.

  • Ground-Truth Deficiencies in Software Engineering : When Codifying the Past Can Be Counterproductive
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE Software. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 0740-7459 .- 1937-4194. ; 39:3, s. 85-95
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In software engineering, the objective function of human decision makers might be influenced by many factors. Relying on historical data as the ground truth may give rise to systems that automate software engineering decisions by mimicking past suboptimal behavior. We describe the problem and offer some strategies. ©IEEE.

  • Nourishment for the piggy bank : facilitation of external financing in incubators
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : Inderscience. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 10 3-4, s. 354-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we argue that incubators facilitate access to external financing for their incubatees. Incubators use a wide range of activities to facilitate the accessing of external financing from public and private sources. We have grouped these into two sets of activities. The general activities aim to develop the conditions for external financing through information, education of incubatees, network-building and lobbying activities. The specific activities aim to assist the individual incubatee in their pursuit of external finance through help in application procedures, establishing need for capital, making contacts with the best public or private investor, etc. Based on the survey data, we have also shown that it is more common for incubatees to attract external capital compared to non-incubator firms. The incubatees seem especially successful in attracting public capital. The incubatees also attract more private external capital, however, the observed frequency of private capital in the incubatees are low.

  • A generic framework for transport network designs: applications and treatment in intermodal freight transport literature
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Transport Reviews. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1464-5327 .- 0144-1647. ; 27:6, s. 733-749
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Six principles for the design of transport systems are described in this article, including direct link, corridor, hub-and-spoke, connected hubs, static routes, and dynamic routes. The designs are theoretically discussed defining the operational character of each design and their applica-tion in passenger, freight and rail freight transport. The theory is then applied to intermodal freight transport by comparing the terminology in this article with that used in scientific literature. Advantages of using a generic terminology over contextual ones are identified from the perspectives of researchers, commercial operators and policy makers.
