  • Innovation Spaces in Asia: Entrepreneurs, Multinational Enterprises and Policy
  • 2015
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The chapters provide rich empirical illustrations about on-going processes of innovation, where the Asian context can be seen in the specific cases as having an impact upon firms and sectors with implications for economic change and socio-political transformation. This book is about Asia as the site of business, where customers, institutions, and firms, both domestic and foreign, are interacting to affect global processes of innovation and production. This book aims to provide an empirical understanding and initial conceptualization of innovation spaces in Asia, including the role of multinational enterprises, entrepreneurship and public policy

  • The Corporatization of the Business School : Minerva Meets the Market
  • 2017
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • With business schools becoming increasingly market-driven, questionable trends have emerged, such as the conflation of academic and corporate management, and the notion that academics and students are market players, who respond rationally to market signals.Using individual studies from leading scholars in a variety of disciplines and countries, this book identifies the global pressures behind these trends. It focuses on the debates surrounded the commercialization of business schools, and the rise of different methods of measuring their success. In their unique approach, the authors and editors discuss the impact of the confrontation between the timeless values embodied by Minerva, the Roman goddess of Wisdom, and the hard realities of competition and corporatization in modern society.

  • Learning to Compete in European Universities: From Social Institutions to Knowledge Business
  • 2009
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book Learning to Compete in European Universities: From Societal Institutions to Knowledge Businesses will challenge the reader by asking how and why European universities are changing and learning to compete. Anglo-Saxon universities in especially USA, UK and Australia have been subject to, and responded to market-based competition in higher education for a long time. We will argue that Continental and Nordic universities and higher education institutes (HEI) are now facing similar pressures that are leading to structural transformation of the university sector. Thus, one of the major societal institutions in Europe is undergoing transformation, and becoming a knowledge business. Regardless of whether one believes that this increasing competition has positive or negative effects, the transformation will affect academics and students, as well as the ability of firms and nations to compete in the global knowledge society. This book provides some steps towards explaining what is going on; towards analyzing how individuals, groups and organizations are responding; and towards discussing the implications for society and universities.

  • The digital transformation of labor: Automation, the gig economy and welfare
  • 2019
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Through a series of studies, the overarching aim of this book is to investigate if and how the digitalization/digital transformation process causes (or may cause) the autonomy of various labor functions, and its impact in creating (or stymieing) various job opportunities on the labor market. This book also seeks to illuminate what actors/groups are mostly benefited by the digitalization/digital transformation and which actors/groups that are put at risk by it. This book takes its point of departure from a 2016 OECD report that contends that the impact digitalization has on the future of labor is ambiguous, as on the one hand it is suggested that technological change is labor-saving, but on the other hand, it is suggested that digital technologies have not created new jobs on a scale that it replaces old jobs. Another 2018 OECD report indicated that digitalization and automation as such does not pose a real risk of destroying any significant number of jobs for the foreseeable future, although tasks would by and large change significantly. This would affects welfare, as most of its revenue stems from taxation, and particularly so from the taxation on labor (directly or indirectly). For this reason, this book will set out to explore how the future technological and societal advancements impact labor conditions. The book seeks to provide an innovative, enriching and controversial take on how various aspects of the labor market can be (and are) affected the ongoing digitalization trend in a way that is not covered by extant literature. As such, this book intends to cater to a wider readership, from a general audience and students, to specialized professionals and academics wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the possible future developments of the labor market in light of an accelerating digitalization/digital transformation of society at large.

  • Method and models used in the project Pathways to Sustainable European Energy Systems
  • 2011
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book describes the research that has been carried out during the first period (2006-2010) of the Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS) project "Pathways to Sustainable European Energy Systems". this interdisciplinary project involves more that 40 researchers and addresses various aspects of the challenges faced in transforming the European energy system. Presented in this book are the energy-related methods and models that originate from different scientific disciplines and traditions and that were applied in the Pathways project. Some of the analytical tools are well-known, well-documented, and widely used in academic research. Others have been developed (or refined) during the Pathways project and are therefore unique. The chapters of this book cover around 30 different methods and models used in the Pathways project and presents an overview of the processes through which the research was conducted and the methods and models were co-ordinated.

  • Systems Perspectives on Biorefineries 2012
  • 2012
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Replacing fossil fuels with biomass for the production of energy carriers, materials and specialty chemicalsis a challenge that now confronts humanity. In which applications shall we use limited resourcesof biomass? How can biomass be refined into the products we want? What is an optimal design of abiorefinery? How is the most advantageous portfolio of policy instruments designed to realise the biorefineriesof the future? There is not one final answer to these questions. However, different systems studies can provide us withcomplementary pieces of the puzzle. These can be valuable by themselves, or be brought together into alarger and more complex picture. Systems perspectives on Biorefineries 2012 contains nine chapters thataddress different topics related to the immensely important issue of how the world’s biomass resourcescan, or should, be converted into the goods we need and desire. The book is far from complete, but it is acontribution and a start...

  • Critical Management Research : Reflections from the Field
  • 2014
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The emergence of Critical Management Studies (CMS) reflects a growing body of scholars within the management research community who are recognised for their philosophical or theoretical work, as well as undertaking empirical research. The majority of published texts on research methods do not focus particularly on critical managementresearch, or if they do, they focus more on paradigms and perspectives rather than processes or practices ‘in the field’ and thus their reflections are often one stage removed from empirical work or lack reference to recent empirical experience. Furthermore, with the exception of feminist research within this critical community, CMS typically fails to demonstrate its reflexivity and ethical consideration in its empirical work(either leaving it implicit or absent), despite theoretical discussions within the community arguing for the same. Accordingly, the book is not just another methods book. Rather, it focuses on contemporary accounts of those engaged in fieldwork and managing the challenges in fieldwork (including the analysis and presentation of findings) when undertaking management research. It would aim to give contemporary accounts of undertaking research, and focus on the practical realities of the research process and how challenges faced can be negotiated. It focuses particularly on the challenges faced by ‘critical’ researchers in negotiating the tensions between giving voice, protecting identity, saying something meaningful and making a difference to people’s working lives. In doing so, it explores all aspects of the research process, including the development of the research question, data collection, ethical issues, analysis, and writing up the findings. It also explores the research process from an individual perspective (the default assumption of many texts on research methodology) and as part of a collaborative endeavour. This includes reflections on the nature and politics of working relationships, the dilemmas faced and ways of negotiating issues that arise.
