  • Best practice vid lagerstyrning i svensk industri
  • 2014
  • swepub:Mat_report_t (swepub:level_scientificother_t)abstract

  • Future of supply chain planning: Closing the gaps between practice and promise
  • 2016
  • record:In_t: International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management. - 0960-0035. ; 46:1, s. 62-81
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • The purpose is to develop a research agenda for supply chain planning (SCP) relevant to practice. We critically evaluate academic literature on SCP in order to understand how problems are addressed in their particular context, what the outcomes are, and the mechanisms producing the observed outcomes. Four categories of SCP are studied: sales and operations planning (S&OP), supply chain master planning, supply chain materials management, and collaborative materials management. We introduce the concept of enabling mechanisms to identify specific innovations in materials management and production management that can facilitate the future improvement of SCP.The critical evaluation of current SCP theory presents very limited results that are of practical relevance. SCP is not presented as an intervention and the results are not in a form that is actionable for practitioners. The body of literature is almost absent in addressing problems according to context, it presents limited evidence of intended outcomes, and it fails to identify unintended outcomes. As a consequence, research is unable to bolster theoretical understandings of how outcomes – both intended and unintended – are achieved. In our forward-looking research agenda we leverage our understanding of the enabling mechanisms in order to propose research to make mature S&OP and novel types of SCP implementable. The paper is an example of a structured approach to developing a research agenda that is relevant to practice and can be used more widely in logistics and supply chain management. This paper presents a research agenda to close the gap between practice and promise in SCP.We operationalize what constitutes practical relevance for an established field of research.

  • Supply chain information utilisation: conceptualisation and antecedents
  • 2016
  • record:In_t: International Journal of Operations and Production Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Ltd.. - 1758-6593 .- 0144-3577. ; 36:12, s. 1769-1799
  • swepub:Mat_researchreview_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • This study aims to define supply chain information utilisation and explore how its antecedents impact shared information utilisation in an information receiver’s planning processes. The analysis is based on a literature review and exploratory case study of three supplier dyads of original equipment manufacturers. This study presents a four-phase model of supply chain information utilisation that identifies how information sharing, information quality, and intended information usage are antecedents of actual usage of information shared in supply chains. In the dyads, 35 potential information utilisation situations are analysed.Inter-organisational and intra-organisational factors are antecedents of information utilisation, by their effects on the four phases of utilisation. Composite information sharing, social network governance, human process involvement, and formal planning processes are important antecedents, which are not much emphasized in the literature. Our study focuses on routinised sharing of formal demand-related planning information in supply chain dyads. The analysis is based on three case dyads which are chosen to be complementary in several respects, and where there is access to rich data.Understanding phases and antecedents could support managers in developing information sharing strategies. The literature does not explicitly consider information utilisation, or related antecedents or effects. However, by defining information utilisation and proposing a multi-phase utilisation model, this study can explain the performance effect of information sharing. In addition, the composite information variable is defined. This is the first attempt to conceptualise and explore antecedents of information utilisation in supply chains.

  • Exploring the impact from digitalization on business relationships in welding manufacturing
  • 2020
  • swepub:Mat_conferencepaper_t (swepub:level_scientificother_t)abstract
    • Digitalization has a vast impact on industry in terms of firm strategies and business models (Jocevski, et al., 2020). The aim of the paper is to explore digitalization’s impact on a firm’s business relationships and networks, including both existing supplier and customer relationships and development of new ones. The content of current relationships is explored in terms of shared activities, resources and actor interaction.   The paper is based on a case study of BETA, an industrial firm and manufacturer of welding equipment and consumables. BETA is currently developing and implementing digital technologies in their products and services. This digitalization journey does not only impact their internal process but also their business relationships. It might in turn lead to new business relationships. BETA is currently offering digital solutions to its customers, the so-called BETA Digital Solutions. Their prototype of the digital cloud platform was launched in 2018. Shortly after that, the commercialization started. By using cloud platform and IoT, BETA promises to its customers maximization of their welding productivity, quality consistence, downtime reduction, and real time information about energy and wire consumption. BETA has been working to expand its digital solutions portfolio and platform functionalities. Results of the paper regard learning points from the digitalization journey and describe the various practiced digitalized offerings and business models of BETA. The results build on the framework by Pagani & Pardo (2017) and preliminary include identification of key interfaces in business relationships in context of digitalization. As it is now and planning for next steps, on the customer side, BETA has been commercializing few digital solutions, while more advanced service offerings, with some with degrees of circularity, are still in the BETA’s roadmap and their business models are still under development. BETA’s plan is to implement a pilot/proof in a near future for these advanced service offerings and business models, in collaboration with customers. Regarding the supplier side, BETA sees the importance of supply chain management and works continuously with their current suppliers as well as develops contacts with new suppliers for digitalization solutions.

  • BigData in procurement - literaturereview and a research agenda
  • 2018
  • swepub:Mat_conferencepaper_t (swepub:level_scientificother_t)abstract
    • More and more, academics and practitioners are urging organizations to adopt systems, techniques, or methods to use big data (BD) in their procurement practices to remain competitive. However, still, a major existing gap is the lack of understanding on how to generate value from the large amounts of varied data in procurement practices. Thus, with this study, we aim to increase the understanding of possible application areas of BD in procurement. By conducting a systematic literature review on the topic, we generate five procurement related research avenues for future studies, and thus develop a research agenda.

  • The potential benefits of advanced planning and scheduling systems in sales and operations planning
  • 2010
  • record:In_t: Industrial Management and Data Systems. - : Emerald. - 0263-5577. ; 110:5, s. 659-681
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore what potential benefits may be achieved by usingadvanced planning and scheduling (APS) systems in the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process.Design/methodology/approach – The paper investigates benefits at the S&OP process level byinterviewing APS experts and APS users. Several methods have been used; literature review, Delphistudy, and a case study at a company in the chemical industry which uses APS system support in theS&OP process.Findings – Three types of potential benefits were found to be achieved when using APS systems in theS&OP process; benefits concerning decision support, planning efficiency and learning effects. The mostcommon type was decision support benefits according to APS users and APS experts. The results fromthe case company showed that the benefits perceived in the different S&OP activities differed. In theactivities concerning the preparation and generation of delivery plans, the perceived benefits mainlyconcerned learning effects. In the activities concerning the generation of a production plan, the benefitswere foremost found in planning efficiency. In the S&OP meeting decision support benefits were highestvalued. The reason for the different results can be explained by the aim of the activity, how APS wasused in the activity, the user characteristics and the design of the model and access and quality ofplanning data.Research limitations/implications – The focus of this paper is on potential benefits of APSsystems in the S&OP process only, not the costs. It has established a typology of potential benefits. Novalidation in form of statistical analysis has been done. The empirical analysis is mainly based onfindings from a single case study.Practical implications – The findings about the types of APS potential will assist companies inunderstanding the benefits they can expect from its use in the S&OP process. The case study analysisgives further insight into how APS can be employed and what benefits different APS user categories canexpect when it is used in an appropriate way.Originality/value – The knowledge about which benefits that can be achieved when using APS inthe S&OP process is quite unexplored. This paper fills some of these gaps.
