    • The implementation of Knowledge management (KM) in healthcare has primarily been carried out on the organizational level with a traditional centric approach, whereas, personal knowledge management (PKM), a bottom-up approach which focuses on the knowledge in the knowledge workers' (KWs') minds, is somewhat missing. This study advocates the implementation of PKM as a complementary approach to a centric approach to KM, if not an alternative approach, in the healthcare sector to foster knowledge-worker productivity (KWP). Therefore, the prime purpose of this study was to empirically test a proposed model which accounts for the impact of the four individual-level determinants - task definition, job autonomy, KW's lifelong learning and innovation as a job requirement - on the relationship between PKM and KWP. These four determinants are inspired by Drucker's KWP theory that advocated the role of PKM for enhanced KWP. The data were collected from 71 knowledge workers in the public healthcare department of the District Attock, Pakistan and were analysed using partial least squares modelling. The results support the varying roles of four individual-level determinants in fostering PKM, which in turn, increases KWP. The results make the case for additional focus of PKM as a complementary KM approach in the healthcare sector.

    • The aim of this paper is to present the key elements and content of a business transfer ecosystem and examine the supportiveness of such a system in five European countries. A business transfer comprises a change of ownership of any firm or business from one person/legal entity to another person/legal entity with the aim of assuring the continued existence and commercial activity of the enterprise - when more than 50 % of the assets or shares are transferred (see e.g. Sten 2006; Van Teeffelen 2012). This definition includes both family successions and transfers to external buyers.The study also seeks to demonstrate a research gap regarding the necessity of an evidence-based design for business transfer ecosystems in fostering enterprise continuity. The study is based on a multiple case study involving five country cases. Data shows that there is a considerable variety regarding forms of business discontinuity, which is in line with former research. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor survey, e.g., in Croatia only 0,83% of all business exits are based on opportunities to sell compared to 5,3% in Sweden. In Finland 15% of all exits are caused by none-profitable businesses vs. 56% in Spain; and financing difficulties is a reason for 24% of exits in Croatia and only for 2,7% in Sweden (Singer et al., 2014). The analysis further shows that business transfer ecosystems are very country specific. The different ecosystems studied are in different stages of development, ranging from highly developed infrastructure to practically none at all. The level of the business transfer infrastructure (e.g. advisory services, financing) varies, as does the complexity of relevant legislation. There are also similarities; in all countries the potential for business transfers is highest among micro firms, and none of the studied countries has a public database for business transfers. As the different stages of the life cycle of a firm (birth, growth, maturity, exit) are not evenly covered as regards statistical monitoring, the exit phase is susceptible to assumption-based approaches regarding the development of related ecosystems. The study’s findings contribute to the general awareness that a business transfer represents a phase in the firm’s life cycle that offers different possible strategic decisions. In sum, business transfers can be seen as an essential element of enterprise continuity and development.

    • The aim of this paper is to review extant research on the impact of social media on knowledge management (KM) to establish the current body of knowledge and, on this basis, to suggest some promising avenues for future research.The study consists of a systematic literature review of eighteen refereed empirical articles on social media and knowledge management. In order to get access to the articles, we used different scientific databases such as Scopus and ProQuest. As keywords, we decided to use multiple keyword combinations. After having read the abstracts of the articles identified, we ended up with a final set of eighteen articles, which represented the basis for analysis. The systematic approach helped us to make sure that the majority of relevant papers would be covered. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no systematic literature review on social media and knowledge management has previously been published or presented.The topic seems to be a promising field for systematic and intensive research and offers a variety of future research avenues.

We analyse the requirements of customer contact in service provisionand develop a framework how different social media channels can be usedfor knowledge exchange. In particular, we show from the perspective of serviceproviders how these organisations may apply different social media channels indifferent stages of service processes.

    • Due to digitalization organizations increasingly interact with other organizations. Data, information, and knowledge are exchanged along the supply chain. This not only creates benefits but also creates manifold risks. The latter is particularly relevant for SMEs being usually the weaker partner in vendor buyer relations. This paper explores knowledge risks associated with supply chain interactions. Risks are identified for three phases of a typical vendor and buyer relations cycle: the preparation phase, the development and learning phase, and the operational phase. The relevance of the relations presented will have to be empirically validated. For this, explorative focus groups involving SMEs from Portugal and Italy were conducted. The overall aims of the ongoing research project are first, to raise awareness among SMEs about these risks, and secondly, to provide training and assistance for these companies on how to avoid or mitigate these risks.

    • Purpose – Shorter product life cycles, greater demands from consumers for sustainable and eco-friendly products and services, and thus the need for constant market observation make today’s business environment a rather complex one, the one that is characterized not only by a number of opportunities but also by a number of risks. These risks are increasingly related to knowledge which, in turn, underlines the need for an updated approach to risk management, i.e. one that covers knowledge risks as well. Although the role of knowledge in organizational performance is generally acknowledged and has been explored vastly, the study of risks related to knowledge or knowledge risk management is still in its infancy. Indeed, we lack an in-depth understanding of how organizations perceive and manage the possible downsides of knowledge. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to empirically investigate knowledge risk management in organizations.  Design/methodology/approach – An international sample of organizations is surveyed to understand how knowledge risks are managed, what knowledge risks are managed and what tools and methods are used to manage these knowledge risks.Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no quantitative study on knowledge risk management in organizations has been conducted and published in academic journals. Moreover, it is the first complex study dealing with a large number of potential knowledge risks, previous studies have tended to deal with one or two knowledge risks only (e.g. knowledge hiding, knowledge loss or knowledge spillover).Practical implications – The results of the study provide insights into the risk management of knowledge as well as knowledge risks that are managed by organizations of different size and from different sectors. Additionally, an overview of methods used to manage knowledge risks is made available. Based on the findings, managers and company owners can develop actions in order to improve their approach to knowledge risk management.
