- In this special section, the histories of dietary reform have been approached and explored from different perspectives. The essays weave together threads of the history of dietary advice and nutritional standards with social history, women’s history and food history, covering the elements of life reform and women’s movements, the establishment of communist food ideology, the development of modern food safety and food security, etc. Three peer-reviewed articles focusing on the case studies of Estonia, Bulgaria and the Russian empire are built on previously untapped sources and offer original perspectives on the topic. As the contributions suggest, the entangled histories of dietary reform efforts proved to be a valuable and novel prism through which to study the region and the history of Europe in general.

- Migrant women stepping into ethnic catering; homeless men employed to take care of bees producing honey for sale; young people on the edge getting microcredit funding to start social businesses; or former criminals joining forces to create social and economic structures for an honest lifestyle. These initiatives capture the transformative power of social enterprise and might indicate how social enterprises have the potential to make a difference for people and societies. The Nordic countries represent an interesting case. Social enterprises and co-operatives played a significant part in paving the way for the Nordic solicaristic welfare state.As the welfare state grew, civil society organizations and co-operatives lost ground, to a certain extent. But in recent decades, the welfare state has been restructured and, simultaneously, the concepts social entrepreneurship and social enterprises have gained attention. The Nordic context, with extensive public welfare structures and a high degree of citizens’ participation in public affairs, might affect the emergence of social entrepreneurship and social enterprises.

- Forskning om genus och företagande/entreprenörskap, är ett brett forskningsfält som utvecklades i skärningspunkten mellan å ena sidan teorier om entreprenörskap och å andra sidan genus och feministisk teori och där företaget, arbetsmarknaden, familjen och staten är de mest centrala elementen. Genusperspektivet utgör en av samhällets viktigaste organiseringsprinciper, medan företagandet ses som viktigt för att främja tillväxt, skapa arbetstillfällen, mm. Att studera genus och företagande i kombination är därför viktigt för att förstå de krafter som formar vår historia, vår samtid och vår framtid.Denna bok har sin utgångspunkt i nämnda forskningsfält och är resultatet av en workshop som organiserades av forskningscentrat EnterForum, på Södertörns högskola under december 2015. Temat för workshopen var Politik, Företagande och Genus. Med utgångspunkt från ett genusperspektiv analyseras hur ekonomisk utveckling och samhällsprocesser har lett till uppkomsten av nya näringar, samt hur teknik och politik i samverkan kan leda till att kvinnor trängs undan i vissa näringar, om genus påverkar företagens möjligheter att överleva på lång sikt, kvinnliga företagares syn på kvinnors företagande, hur socialt entreprenörskap kan vara katalysator för kvinnors rättigheter, tillika hur samhällsentreprenörskap kan leda till såväl politiskt inflytande som breddade försörjningsmöjligheter, samt vilka utmaningar och möjligheter kvinnliga hästföretagares i tätortsnära verksamheter möter i sin dagliga verksamhet.
