  • Financing home care in Europe
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Nursing. - Rotterdam, the Netherlands : Wiley. - 0962-1067 .- 1365-2702. ; 19:suppl 1, s. 48-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the assumption that care delivered at home is more cost-effective than care provided in institutions, such as nursing homes, the pressure on expenditures for home care will remain. Financial incentives are widely used to get better value for money. Incentives can be applied to authorities responsible for home care, or to agencies that provide services or to clients who receive care. Details of the financing system of home care services very much determine the possibilities for financial incentives. At present, there is a need for comparative information on financing mechanisms for home care. This presentation is based on the results of the EC-financed EURHOMAP project. Indicators have been developed in this project to map the home care systems in Europe, including details of financing. In 2009 and early 2010, EURHOMAP partners have collected data on these indicators in 31 countries in collaboration with experts in these countries. Results were described in uniformly structured country reports and fed back to national experts for validation. Prevailing models of financing for home care will be presented as well as information of the extent to which home care across Europe is pressured by financial restraints. Especially in Eastern European countries, where home care is not well developed yet, funding is a major problem. Co-payments are applicable in most countries to reduce expenditures and to prevent over-utilisation of services. Usually, financing mechanisms for social community based services differ from the mechanisms in place for home health care services. Consequently, modes of reimbursement for providers of different sorts of home care services and the financial implications for clients differ. Co-payments are more prevalent with social services than with health care. Another financial allocation mechanism is means testing, which is frequently used with publicly financed home care services. There is a large diversity in the type of financing mechanism, both between and within countries in Europe. Budgetary restraints are one of the main problems with regard to home care in almost all countries. Usually, access to home care services is restricted in some way by financial restrictions.

  • Relationships among ERP post-implementation success constructs : An analysis at the organizational level
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Computers in human behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 0747-5632 .- 1873-7692. ; 26:5, s. 1136-1148
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract: Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation success factors have been widely researched, however, few have investigated ERP post-implementation success in organizational contexts. The paucity of research Into ERP system success evaluations partly motivates this research To that end, the objective of this study is twofold First, it primarily investigates the relationships among six constructs or dimensions in a respecified ERP system success measurement model, which was developed from prior relevant frameworks. Second, this research adds to the body of knowledge in the information system (IS) success evaluation domain, especially with its focus on ERP packages The extended ERP system success model was tested using data collected in a cross-sectional field survey of 109 firms in two European countries Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test six relevant hypotheses. The SEM results showed that five out of the six hypotheses have significant, positive associations. Namely, the constructs of System Quality, Service Quality, Individual Impact, Workgroup Impact, and Organizational Impact have strong relevance in ERP success conceptualization, whereas Information Quality does not, at least, in the context of our data. The pertinence of the study's findings for IS success evaluation as well as its implications for practice and research are discussed.

  • Transfer of Academic Research - Uncovering the Grey Zone
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Transfer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0892-9912 .- 1573-7047. ; 35:6, s. 617-636
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, we respond to calls for further investigation on why and how scientists choose to commercialize their research. Mowery (University entrepreneurship and technology transfer: process design, and intellectual property, Elsevier, Oxford 2005), in his criticism of the US-system, emphasizes the need for multiple channels between university and industry. His argument makes the case of Sweden interesting, where the researchers own the intellectual property of their research. Sweden thus constitutes a unique case where data can be found on which choices researchers make in a setting where a variety of channels for transfer are available. Our empirical data, collected through case studies, allowed for the expansion of the typology for mechanisms for transfer of academic research as well as the development of a typology for determinants for researchers' choice to engage in transfer of research. Apart from those contributions to the theoretic discussion, the data also provided policy implications.

  • Users’ Influence in Social-service Innovations : Two Swedish Case Studies
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Social Entrepreneurship. - : Routledge Taylor and Francis. - 1942-0676 .- 1942-0684. ; 1:2, s. 190-212
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article uses case studies to address the sources of social innovation, a major contributor to economic growth and welfare services. Following the findings of user-innovation research in the commercial sector, the authors found that social-problem users innovate new social services for solving specific social problems. They also found that superior problem and solution knowledge is one reason for their ability to do this, that their legitimacy with other potential users is an important factor for their innovations’ diffusion and that the legitimacy of the new social services’ operators with other stakeholders is important for acquiring resources for their projects. This contributes to the understanding of the management of social innovation using the established theoretical framework of user innovation.

  • Nourishment for the piggy bank : facilitation of external financing in incubators
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : Inderscience. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 10 3-4, s. 354-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we argue that incubators facilitate access to external financing for their incubatees. Incubators use a wide range of activities to facilitate the accessing of external financing from public and private sources. We have grouped these into two sets of activities. The general activities aim to develop the conditions for external financing through information, education of incubatees, network-building and lobbying activities. The specific activities aim to assist the individual incubatee in their pursuit of external finance through help in application procedures, establishing need for capital, making contacts with the best public or private investor, etc. Based on the survey data, we have also shown that it is more common for incubatees to attract external capital compared to non-incubator firms. The incubatees seem especially successful in attracting public capital. The incubatees also attract more private external capital, however, the observed frequency of private capital in the incubatees are low.

  • Boosting Innovation and Knowledge through Delocalization : Market Intelligence at Trade Shows
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Problems & Perspectives in Management. - Sumy, Ukraine : Sumy State University and "Business Perspectives" Publishing Company. - 1727-7051 .- 1810-5467. ; 8:3, s. 200-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Trade shows have consistently been neglected in marketing research, especially the gathering of market information, what is studied under Market Intelligence and directly related to a company’s Knowledge and Innovation. A major reason is that the marketing discipline traditionally has had a strong focus on customers instead of competitors and influencers. In this article we show how the field of Competitive Intelligence is a useful part of the company’s Integrated Marketing Communications. Based on a qualitative method encompassing a case study and exploratory research we followed, coached and traveled with two different groups of companies to major International Trade shows. Based on the information gathered a division into three areas of Intelligence was useful. These were intelligence about products, the booths and the behavior in the booths. For each group a number of Key Intelligence Topics and a set of specific research methods were identified which can make the Market Intelligence process more efficient. We explain why Exhibits or trade shows have much in common with Event Marketing and could be considered a part of the latter.

  • Ingen samhällsekonomi med flygbussar mellan Stockholm och Arlanda : bara koldioxidutsläpp!
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Ekonomisk Debatt. - : Nationalekonomiska föreningen. - 0345-2646. ; 39:3, s. 60-68

  • University spin-offs in Sweden – a longitudinal study
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Industry & higher education. - : IP Publishing Ltd. - 0950-4222 .- 2043-6858. ; 24:3, s. 219-225
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There have been few studies on the long-term performance of university spin-offs (USOs). This paper builds on previous empirical research into the performance of USOs and on the resource-based model of USOs. Several research issues are addressed including, in particular, the long-term performance of Swedish USOs, the distribution of the main types of business, the extent to which USOs have been in contact with support organizations, and by how much the potential growth of USOs has been achieved by the dissemination of technological knowledge to other businesses through patents, licences and other activities of the founder of the USO. The results of studies of 25 Swedish USOs, all started between 1962 and 1990 and with a median age of 25 years, confirm previous research on USOs which experienced limited growth. The analysis indicates that most of the USOs usually operate as 'simple' types of business, such as consultancy services; and that 60% have been in contact with support organizations.

  • Semantics, Classifications and Evidence in a Model for Global Catastrophic Risks
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Knowledge organization. - Frankfurt : Ergon Verlag. - 0943-7444. ; 38:5, s. 438-454
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Life on the surface of the Earth is fragile and can be deteriorated by outside influence, from nature, or inside influence, from humans. We present a macro perspective for the nation state as a knowledge discourse system. To detect what might happen, a surveillance model needs to classify emerging risks prior to occurrence. The state intelligence model presented here helps survey potential macro factors. During risk analysis, a set of risk classification criteria was devised for linking inside and outside influence trigger points that can indicate existential catastrophes. The analysis is based on a classification of current risks rather than distant future potential risks. Each is measured according to its respective impact, and whether or not it is highly probable to occur or recur in the surveillance system. The inside influence is found most probable with a probability of P >= 0.4 compared to outside influence with a probability of P >= 0.28. The State Intelligence Surveillance Analysis Model presented here consists of an 8-by-8 risk matrix or, a 16 risk table with a computable 20.92 trillion risk combinations per second. The relationships between inside and outside influences have been studied and grouped into classification schemes, where it is imagined that one may trigger the other, and by chance, acting autonomously for any type of catastrophe. The current study gives more focus and awareness to classifiers and the problem of which surveillance components to detect, thereby improving simulations, being well aware that the exact calculations for catastrophes are impossible.
