  • Social media affordances in net-based higher education
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IADIS International Conference on International Higher Education (IHE 2011). - Shanghai, China : IADIS Press. - 9789728939564 ; , s. 27-37
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores the attitudes, conceptions and use of social media in net-based higher education. By using statistical and content analysis of data generated by two surveys directed to students (n = 109) and teachers (n = 77) involved in net-based higher education, we explore how social media influence the design of learning context in net-based higher education courses. By applying the affordance theory, we describe actual as well as preferred use of social media from an educational, social, and technical perspectives. The results showed that the potential use of social media have not yet been fully found in the context of net-based higher education. However, the perceived benefit of using social media differs in relation to educational topics. The potential use of social media in net-based higher education courses is discussed.

  • School Health Services’ Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Interorganizational Collaboration Regarding Students With Mental Illness : A Scoping Review
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of School Nursing. - : Sage Publications. - 1059-8405 .- 1546-8364.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • School health services (SHSs) and school nurses play a crucial role in identifying and supporting students with mental illness. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) can facilitate interorganizational collaboration in this context. Due to the limited research in this area, a scoping review was conducted to explore SHSs’ use of ICT in interorganization collaboration regarding students with mental illness. Six articles were reviewed, revealing three key themes: “types of ICT employed by SHSs in interorganizational collaboration,” “constellation of SHSs in interorganizational collaboration,” and “opportunities and challenges for SHSs using ICT in interorganizational collaboration.” Notably, two of the six articles highlighted the absence of school nurses in interorganizational collaboration. Even though ICT plays a crucial role in interorganizational collaboration, no comprehensive solution was found. This scoping review confirms that there are challenges with operability and regulations that govern the exchange of private information between organizations.

  • Smart Sewage Water Management and Data Forecast
  • 2021
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There is currently an ongoing digital transformation for sewage and wastewater management. By automating data collection and enabling remote monitoring, we will not only be able to save abundant human resources but also enabling predictive maintenance which is based on big data analytics. This paper presents a smart sewage water management system which is currently under development in southern Sweden. Real-time data can be collected from over 500 sensors which have already been partially deployed. Preliminary data analysis shows that we can build statistical data models for ground water, rainfall, and sewage water flows, and use those models for data forecast and anomaly detection.

  • Minimizing the time spent on transformations between computer independent models and platform independent models
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 31st Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia (IRIS31). - : IRIS. - 9789186073121 ; , s. 12-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A well known trade-off effect with modelling is that when it is user friendly it becomes ambiguous and when it has a formal notation, that makes it unambiguous, it becomes less user friendly. A well known solution to this dilemma is to use models on various levels of formalism where the least formalized models are known to be more user friendly and the most formalized models are well suited for being directly translated to program code. This article investigates how the user friendliness at an informal level can be combined with the accuracy needed at a more formal level of modeling. It aims at combining an informal user friendly perspective with a formal developer perspective in order to minimize the time spent on transformation mapping between user friendly models and developer models. Theoretical data and empirical data indicates possibilities of minimizing the work with transformations between models. The results show that a number of developed criteria can be used to secure the user friendliness of models that are used in communications between the designer and the end user.

  • Reusing Patterns for Indexing and Communicating Knowledge and Insight
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Computer Information Systems and Industrial Management Applications. - : MIR Labs. - 2150-7988. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Analogies can be used in most areas of human communication to highlight points of special interest. The creation of specific, specialised patterns, examples, or analogies for facilitating communication is resource-consuming. We therefore hypothesize that there are universal patterns that can be used and reused more economically, compared to specialised patterns, for indexing and communicating knowledge. We have conducted empirical tests with altogether 204 students, each one of whom was given 20 minutes to solve problems from six different scientific areas. The results of our tests show clearly an improvement of their problem solving skill when universal patterns were employed as cognitive aids. The average result of the test group that used universal patterns was 81 per cent higher than that of the control group.

  • Graphical modeling techniques and usefulness in the Model Driven Arcitechture : Which are the criteria for a "good" Computer independent model?
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 31st Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia (IRIS31). - : IRIS. - 9789186073121 ; , s. 13-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Object Management Group (OMG) has presented a framework for model driven development: Model Driven Architecture (MDA). The departure point of this paper is an interest in process oriented modeling techniques relevant for a computer independent model in the MDA. We searched for the answer on the question what constitutes a "good" computer independent model (CIM). To get an answer we were using OMG:s demands of the modeling techniques that should be used when developing CIMs and found four process oriented modeling techniques which could serve as candidates. These four process oriented modeling techniques is analyzed based by Moody"s quality criterions. The findings indicates that there are only one candidate, BPMN, that meets some of Moody"s quality criterions, but there also drawbacks in BPMN, such as the criterions; expressiveness and emphasis.

  • Political campaigning 2.0 : The influence of online news and social networking sites on attitudes and behavior
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: eJournal of eDemocracy & Open Government. - JeDEM Open Access Online : JEDEM Journal of e-Democracy and Open Government. - 2075-9517. ; 6:3, s. 231-247
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study aimed to examine differences in influence between online news (e.g., New York Times) and social networking sites (e.g., Facebook and Twitter) on attitudes in political campaigns. In a web-based experiment, campaign, polls and election between two fictitious candidates were simulated. Participants’ explicit and implicit attitudes as well as voting behavior were assessed using self-report items and the Implicit Association Test (IAT). The results reveal that information emanating from online news had a significant influence on explicit and implicit attitudes while that of social networking sites did not. Overall, negative items had a stronger impact than positive ones, more so in online news compared to social networking sites. Negative information from either type of media was more likely to change participants’ explicit attitudes in a negative direction and as a consequence also change their vote. Practical implications of the findings and limitations of the study are discussed.

  • Smart home techniques for young people with functional disabilities
  • 2020
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A purpose behind the United Nation’s Agenda 2030is that no one shall be left behind, which implies that supportfor vulnerable people shall be seen as clearly significant. Inthat context, assistive technologies serve purposes of improvingdisabled individuals’ inclusiveness and overall well-being. Thiscontribution covers ongoing experiments on techniquesdeveloped for Smart Homes, where the outcomes of suchdevelopments are targeted towards young people withfunctional disabilities, in order to provide them withindependence in their own living space.
